chrishlcfc Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 What bank do you all guys use and more importantly do any of you guys think the service you use is good. Considering i'm a relatively young person i've banked with alliance & leicester/santander and now Lloyds. with all 3 companies i've had numerous problems with all of them. I'm currently with Lloyds and i've just contacted them to say that i've had £20 disappear out of my account and all they say is i've spent. I obviously know i've not spent it and it's not the 1st time it has happened. It does eventually re appear later in the week but that isn't the point as i'm not a rich person and i always need my money. I'm fed up with using all these rubbish banks, can anybody actually recommend a good bank to use?

Bert Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 Would've been a lot more interesting if this thread started with a "W". Natwest are who I Bank with.
chrishlcfc Posted 15 October 2013 Author Posted 15 October 2013 I got £85 come in from skybet. deposited £30 back in, withrew £20 from a cash point, and spent £14.70 in asda. So i should have £20 left over but no nothing in my account. It's happened a few times it does re appear, it seems that they just somehow take some of my transactions twice and realise they make a mistake and then pay the mobey back into my account.
Webbo Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 We use First Direct for our personal banking. I really can't recommend them enough. They are top of all the service survey league tables.
Soar Fox Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I use Natwest, my mum's worked for them for years so always had my account with them. Got the advantage gold account which I pay £15 a month extra for. The benefits are good especially the phone insurance which I had to use 2 weeks ago. £50 excess, brand new iPhone which got delivered to my work 48 hours after claiming.
Captain... Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 Nationwide, never had any complaints about issue resolution and once they got my direct debit sorted for my credit card account they have been pretty good, my only complaint is there over the top security, but I think most banks are like that, but I often get my card stopped for unusual transactions as I travel around a lot have made some unusal transactions on my card whilst self employed.
Alexikokopops Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 As Webbo says First Direct are meant to be top notch with their customer service. I use Nationwide (not a bank, I know) and whenever I've had a problem they've been very helpful.
Guesty Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 My friend had money taken out his account for a second time. He phoned them up, they blamed him and said someone must have got his card details again - which is what they'd said first time, but he was sure he hadn't cause he's careful (but you never can tell). They quickly changed their tune when he pointed out it was a replacement card he'd kept in a safe and hadn't even activated since the first time money was taken. Turned out it must have been someone inside the bank. I can't remember which bank it was; sufficed to say he left them soon after.

Have you got online banking? If you have you should be able to see all your transactions in & out. I've got the Natwest app and it's brilliant, can see my transactions for the last week, transfer money too & from people.
Jace Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I use Natwest at used to work for them for several years and many in my family still do never had a problem with them myself.

Lots of possibilities without knowing the facts,I suggest you manage your account better( not being rude) as it's hard to track in your head.As Steve Walsh said online banking.Used to be a bank manager and seen plenty of scenarios like this and more often than not there is an oversight by the customer. Not saying in your case, but that was usually how it went.Good luck.
danny. Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I'm with Barclays, they are pretty good TBH, no real problems, Pros: - £1500 interest free overdraft - £6/mo for a plus account which covers insurance for 2 x iPhones + gadgets (iPods/iPads/XBOX etc.) and extends warranties by 1 year - Mobile app is excellent - Online banking website is excellent Cons: - Doesn't offer cashback or money paid per month like some accounts do (Santander 3/2/1, Halifax £5/mo) - Online banking needs a PINSentry device, although nowadays you can just use the phone app. This could be a pro too as makes it more secure
separator Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 HSBC, been with them for 20+ years. Signed up with then when I was a teenager and it was called the Midland Bank. No complaints from me.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I bank with Smile (internet part of the Co-operative Bank). Most people don't give a toss about things like this but I switched from the Natwest primarily because the Co-operative do actually have an ethics policy. It was a relative piece of piss, so why not? Read more about it here: http://www.goodwithmoney.co.uk/ethical-banking/ After switching accounts I hugged a tree and made a casserole for some orphans*. Customer services wise they've been fine (the bank, not the orphans) *a lie
James. Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 Santander. Too late for me ethics-wise so I just went for the one that gives me cash back on my mortgage, council tax and other bills, as well as 3% AER interest paid monthly.

Don't be so down on yourself
Jimothy Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 HSBC for me. Been with them about 15/17 years, no problems for me.
StanSP Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 Natwest. Student account. Now a Graduate account. I love my free railcard.
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I store mine in in my bomb shelter incase of a crash
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I use NatWest also. No real problem with them over the years.
Jace Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 I launder my money through a local car wash, when it gets too much I then store it in a self storage lock up and then put it into money barrels and bury them out in the desert.
Rincewind Posted 15 October 2013 Posted 15 October 2013 Santander. Had a discussion about cashback on DD but I would have only gained a couple of quid over the fee. Meant to go back after my other stuff was sorted but dont think its worth switching. If any DD stop I'll be worse off.
