Ibrahimovic is finally showing the consistency for club and country. He has always been ridiculously talented and has always scored a lot of goals but right now he is turning up in big matches and delivering. I'm not sure it's enough to win him this given the accolades of others but he's a joy to watch.

Robben, probably. He's stood out for a very good Bayern side that deserve the recognition.

If anyone's going to topple Messi it should probably be him.

Both have had better years. Messi didn't turn up in too many of the CL games away from home for me. Nowhere to be seen at Milan or Bayern.

Robben was Bayern's best player from what I saw and read and heard of them and they won everything. So hard to look elsewhere. Apart from Ribery who is basically an ugly Robben.

I think Ibra is definitely knocking on the Messi / Ronaldo bracket at the moment.

Comfortably a better footballer than Ronaldo, just doesn't have the same athleticism.

I think the fact that he's playing in a poorer league helps.

But you're right, his Champions League form has improved significantly. Don't think he'll get in the top 3, but he'll be in the top 5 IMO.

I think if Bale's form had transferred to Madrid and Spurs qualified for the CL he'd be in the Messi/Ronaldo 2012 bracket for 2013.

Its been the most open Ballon d'Or since its birth.

Spain is hardly competitive now, is it?

Messi and Ronaldo are both wonderful footballers but I feel their stats are often skewed by smashing in six against the divisions absolute rotters. La Liga is so imbalanced with how money is distributed and private TV deals to the point it's unbelievable.

Spain is infinitely more competitive than France though.

French champions:

2007-08: Lyon

2008-09: Bordeaux

2009-10: Marseille

2010-11: Lille

2011-12: Montpellier

2012-13: Paris Saint-Germain

6 different champions in 6 years.

Can't get much more competitive than that.

Sorry, you've misunderstood what I was saying (my fault).

I'm saying that the lower reaches of the French division is shit in comparison to the lower reaches of the Spanish division.

However, although your point is relevant, right now nobody compares to PSG so it's not as competitive as you suggest.

Really? Are Almeria (for example) miles better than Valenciennes or Sochaux?

I love Schweinsteiger.

He just one of those players that makes the game look so easy. In a great Bayern side, where Robbery and Ribery beat players for fun, Schweinsteiger is the one that sits in that midfield, win the ball back and doesn't break sweat.

Watch the player, not the ball. I really do admire him.

Realistic possibility of Monaco making it 7 in 7 as well.

One of my favourite players also. Think he's often overlooked when people speak of the very best midfielders, I'd argue he's the best all-round midfielder on the planet. World class.
