I can see arguments for Robben and Ribery because they were stand out players for the team that won everything.

But on an individual level Ronaldo is above and beyond everyone (including Messi) at the moment, and has been for a good few months.

I also don't believe this should carry as much merit in modern football as it does.

Too many people (IMO) go on about how Messi and Ronaldo won't go down as the best ever because they haven't dragged their countries to a world cup win. I think it's a ridiculous argument and it's similar in this case. It should be taken into account but not the primary decider. Ronaldo and Messi are by far the best footballers in the world, It's not subjective and it's not even close.

One of those two should win it and Ronaldo has surely had the better year and this international performance tonight is an amazing end to the year, single handedly taking his nation to the World Cup.

His goals to games ratio is just insane, I mean when Madrid bought him for the kind of money they did, its hard to think he would repay it so handsomely.

In my opinion, there's never been more than a modicum of talent between Messi and Ronaldo. Messi is a phenomenon but you can't deny he has benefited greatly from having Xavi and, in particular, Iniesta behind him pulling the strings. And while Ibra, Bale, Robben and Ribery have all closed the gap, Messi and Ronaldo are still on a whole new plane.

Ronaldo is a shoe-in for this year's Balon D'or and he will definitely deserve it.

He's not though, that's the problem.

I hate that argument, too. It's like saying Kleberson was better than Messi/Ronaldo just because he won the World Cup with Brazil.

Yep, no arguments from me. I'd give it to Ronaldo, I just think others will take into account what Ribery (ignoring Robben because apparently nobody is even considering him) has won and may go with him.

Individually, this year, Ronaldo has been the best player in the world by quite a distance. Messi has had a poor year by his standards, Zlatan has done some sensational things but isn't on a Ronaldo level. Ribery won everything but not much was due to individual brilliance.

Just checked the poll results. lol

Is this a fair, unbiased representation of the world's collective opinion? If so should Vardy buy a tuxedo?

Or are some people not taking this seriously? lol

If Ronaldo don't win this thing then football is just wrong.

This, and I prefer Messi as a player.

Genuinely think he doesn't get some votes because of his supposed arrogance. It's be an absolute travesty if he doesn't win it this year.

Messi is 100 times more arrogant than Ronaldo.

In person, Ronnie is one of the nicest people you'll meet.

I always believed it would be the other way around, I was wrong.

I've read that he made that Tello lad cry in training once.
