21st Century Fox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 And people actually take this stuff as 100% gospel as well, it's amazing. For someone who espouses the virtues of someone like Silvio Berlusconi, I'd have thought someone like Sven would be right up your street.

kingfox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 That Gally/Beckham comparison is a good one. You can obviously tell what he was doing. He tried to sign Beckham, it failed. So he tried to reassure fans, that Gallagher was good enough, and his right foot was just as good as Beckham's. I forgot about all these other comments, but that Ball one just stuck with me. Like I said though, just goes to show how deluded he was.

It's what he does ... fills a player with confidence - what's wrong with openly praising one of your own players???

Because it makes you sound ridiculous then ends up with them on a massive long overpaid contract and ego that far exceeds their footballing ability? Building confidence of a player is fine, telling Neil Danns he's as good as Edgar Davids won't do you any good.
kingfox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 His management style was to make you feel great about yourself .... Michael Ball can become our best signing Howard reminds me of Vieri Gallagher's right foot is as good as Beckham There's a line of giving players confidence, and being just plain stupid.

Yeah they are the risks definitely .... and then sometimes it pays off .... an otherwise average player plays out of skin with the confidence you've given him and to repay the faith shown in him. Not an exact science is it ... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I can see where he was coming from with Michael Ball ..... The guy had some mental illness issues and serious confidence issues .... but was a world class player underneath that fragility .... if he'd have got his head right then he'd have been like signing a top premiership player for nothing .... it was a risk and it didn't pay off as he didn't get his head right. A risk possibly worth taking.
5waller5 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 The Michael Ball risk was a similar risk to the one we took with Stanley Collymore .... there was a player with immense talent but who's head just didn't allow him to make the most of that talent .... As a manager you'd have made your best signing ever if you could have turned him around.
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I'm not sure that football has ever seen such a big charlatan as Sven. God only knows how he made the money he did. The only reason I'd buy his book is for arse paper. I certainly won't be lining his pockets with any more silver. He's had more than enough already.
Happy Fox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I cannot believe the English media give this man anymore breathing space f**k me are we really that desperate!

Not an exact science is it ... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. And with Sven it never seemed to be pay off, hence why the job he did here was considered very poor. It actually is a Science, and managers who get that right more often than not are considered good ones. Let's be quite frank, this lot weren't 'playing out of their skin' under Sven, if they were we wouldn't have been hanging around the middle of this shitty division with the supposed 'talent' he had brought in. You have got to be on the windup here Collymore was a goalscorer sort after by all the big sides in his prime, Ball played once for England and was playing in Scotland by the time he was 24. He only made regular appearances in the Premier League when he was purchased into another expensively assembled underachieving side. (by guess who?)

If you know any Man City fans ask them about him .... they rate him very highly, they also rate Sven but they must be wrong about him too. I think you've missed my point ... I wasn't comparing his age or experience to that of Collymore .... the wasted talent down to mental illness was the comparison.

Know three actually, season ticket holders in my local, all said Ball was average and whilst they liked Sven when he was there they don't view him too great after what has happened since. Maybe you need to speak to them since they have won the league.

Akin to a Leicester fan not rating MON. I used to live in Manchester and most of my mate sup there are City fans ... and to a man they rate Johnson as a world class player.

Not even mentioned Johnson.
5waller5 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Are you sure you are not getting confused with Michael Johnson? SH1T!!!!! Yes I am!!!!!!!!!! OOOOPS SORRY!!!!!!!!
Dan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 His management style was to make you feel great about yourself .... It's what he does ... fills a player with confidence - what's wrong with openly praising one of your own players??? His man 'management' was to pay everyone what they wanted when they realised they he's a shit manager.
5waller5 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I'd read Michael Ball and somehow had in my mind Johnson!!!!!!!! Yeah Michael Ball was an average workhorse. His man 'management' was to pay everyone what they wanted when they realised they he's a shit manager. Doesn't explain how he was 2nd most successful England manager??
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I'd read Michael Ball and somehow had in my mind Johnson!!!!!!!! Yeah Michael Ball was an average workhorse. Doesn't explain how he was 2nd most successful England manager?? Thank god for that. Where does that come from? 2nd best ever? He's well behind Robson, Hoddle, Venables and Ramsey for me and might have had beter squads than all of them apart from AR.

It's the stats from the time ... had the second best win ratio of any England manager ..... Not sure if that's changed in recent years but was right at the time of his departure as England manager.

5waller5 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 O'Neill has gone downhill since Leicester IMO. Yeah but you can't say it out loud ...... Go on ... try to say MON isn't God anymore...... You're mouth goes dry, your voice cracks and you p1ss your pants ..... it's impossible to do!!!
