Dan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 No Idea ... Germany?? Here's one for the Sven doubters ...... Who was the first manager to ever win league and cup doubles in 3 countries???? I did it on FM1972, so ha
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 No Idea ... Germany?? Here's one for the Sven doubters ...... Who was the first manager to ever win league and cup doubles in 3 countries???? Probably was, pretty poor German side that. Him, he was a good manager back then. Two of those doubles were before I was born mind, Howard Wilkinson won his league title after those successes, I wouldn't want him back.
Mark_w Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Read the stats .... It was fantastic. Only one manager has ever won anything with England - does it mean every other manager has been rubbish??? So why do/did you think that Nigel Pearson, who had the best win % of any Leicester manager during his first run and the second best win % of any Leicester manager during his second (I believe), is/was so awful?
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 The defence of this bloke gets more ridiculous over time. I have a feeling in 30 years people will be talking about Sven as our greatest ever after he won us the World Cup in 1966. The defence of him when he was at the club was pretty incredible too. Some people still pine after him now. It's a little strange I think.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 The defence of him when he was at the club was pretty incredible too. Some people still pine after him now. It's a little strange I think. It's more than a little strange, I find it just amazing. Had he brought Beckham here he'd probably be considered our best ever manager despite still knocking around midtable. It's got to be the X Factor types who enjoy him, those who care more about the press, coverage, celebrity aspect of it rather than what happens on the pitch.

Really??? Do we have to again????? It's a thread about Sven's book .... he gets unfairly criticised IMHO. He's got an amazing history in the game and I would guess won more trophies than every other LCFC manager added together. He beat Germany 5-1 and yet it's a poor Germany side. He gets to the quarter finals of every competition he entered as England Manager, has the highest win %age in those competitions of any manager .... and yet some of our fans still slate the guy like all he'd done in his career was win division 3 once. NP has won me around this season ... he does seem like NP2.0 and has definitely worked on his weaknesses .... The win %age in his first stint - for me not relevant as it was our only season in div3. His start to the season - fantastic .... record broken for best start - well played ..... Do we have to discuss NP in every Sven thread though?????

I think it was about expectation and excitement. We were being managed by SVEN! Ex-England manager, backed with resources that could never have been imagined. And he turned-out actually to be one of the most expensive flops out club had ever seen. People, I think, just could not accept that something which could and should have been so good, became spectacularly bad. Personally, I saw it coming long before many did... Said so, and got rounded upon, on here, by the usual suspects. We are in SUCH a better position now and frankly, thank God the Thais got rid when they did. Nice man, but was clueless at this level.
Dan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 .... I'm learning to ignore things on here and stop debating when points get this ridiculous. Can fully see where he's coming from.

Two of those doubles were before I was born mind, Howard Wilkinson won his league title after those successes, I wouldn't want him back. Who said anything about bringing him back???? I'm defending him against the abuse that he gets for being such an awful manager ..... With a record that almost every manager in the game today would die for.
Mark_w Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 .... I'm learning to ignore things on here and stop debating when points get this ridiculous. Well you've done a fantastic job of ignoring that.
Dan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Who said anything about bringing him back???? I'm defending him against the abuse that he gets for being such an awful manager ..... With a record that almost every manager in the game today would die for. But we're Leicester City, I don't give two shits if he did well when I was at Primary School - he'd done fvck all for years before coming to Leicester, did fvck all during and fvck all since. He deserves abuse for not taking us seriously - anyone who Leicester City employs should not under any circumstance be defended for not taking it seriously especially by our own fans, he deserves nothing but contempt.
5waller5 Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Well you've done a fantastic job of ignoring that. I'm learning .... haven't perfected yet. The guy was in tears as he left our stadium having been sacked. He took it seriously.
Dan Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I'm learning .... haven't perfected yet. The guy was in tears as he left our stadium having been sacked. He took it seriously. He was interviewed in March just before we were about to play Chelsea and he even admitted he hadn't watched us once since he'd been sacked - he doesn't give a shit about Leicester City. Not going to claim it was crocodile tears - because naturally you'd be a bit taken back no matter what it is. My point before this though is the real proof in the pudding.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 The guy was in tears as he left our stadium having been sacked. He took it seriously. He takes himself seriously. He didn't give a shit about our football club. See Dan's comments re Chelsea game. He was probably crying sue to some contract stipulation that meant he didn't get a full payoff.
Webbo Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Well I like Sven as a person, very charming man. I'm glad he's not managing us anymore though.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 He must be seriously struggling for cash now to have to air his dirty laundry in public at his age.
NewburyFox Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-accuses-Leicester-City-bosses/story-20035114-detail/story.html The Buddhist monks bit sounds a bit odd!
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 But Sven said that one transfer he did secure was that of keeper Kasper Schmeichel against advice given to him. He said: “Many people were critical of Kasper. “They said he was too short to be a goalkeeper and that he was too hot-tempered. “But I liked Kasper and we bought him.†Another player Sven did manage to sign - but perhaps wished he did not was Jermaine Beckford. Sven said the club paid Everton £2.5m for the striker and signed him from Everton just before the transfer deadline after he could not land Shane Long from Reading. He said: “I was not totally convinced that Beckford was the type of player we needed. “But the longer it went on the more desperate we became. Finally we had no choice. “We bought Beckford just a few hours before the window closed.†Sven said he turned out to be a “poor buy†for City. Beckford played 43 games for Leicester scoring nine goals before going out on loan to Huddersfield Town before signing permanently with Bolton Wanderers. So a successful signing was completely his idea and the bad one was one he actually didn't want. I mean who would have thought it? I suppose he didn't want Mills, Danns, Pantsil, Ball and Johnson either. Will this guy ever take some responsibility for anything that goes wrong? Our owners sounds crackers mind, no wonder he was crying, he ego must have been flattened by being sacked by a kid.
Mark_w Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 He said: “I was not totally convinced that Beckford was the type of player we needed. “But the longer it went on the more desperate we became. Finally we had no choice." No choice? He could have tried not spending £2.5M on a player he apparently didn't think was good enough.
Corky Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Who was critical of Kasper? I reckon virtually all thought he would be a good signing, especially given who he was replacing and his upbringing from family and clubs played for.
Mr.X Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 ''Sven Goran Eriksson accuses Leicester City bosses of "cowardly" sacking in new autobiography'' http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-accuses-Leicester-City-bosses/story-20035114-detail/story.html Very interesting article
Craig Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Cowardly because the owners probably made the decision straight after the match? Isn't it more cowardly to slate the owners in his book without actually knowing it to be fact?
Jace Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Many players have commented he is the best manager they have worked for in football even Heskey said he was the best tactically and Martin O Neill was the worst. He can't be all bad surely?
