DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 One of the best goals I have seen was a header from Derek Dougan. The ball came across from the right, with Dougan a few yards outside the box. Up he went for a bullet of a header that the keeper never even saw, as it crashed into the top left hand corner of the net. The perfect header. I have seen many a cracking goals in the last 53 years, but to pick one specific one as the best, is impossible
Harry - LCFC Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 When you say 'great' I'm thinking of the 'biggest' and most momentous goal rather than the best footballing goal. Went for Claridge on that basis.
stink1884 Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Gillespie v West Ham was an excellent goal but is never mentioned. If I'm correct the only bounce was just about on the goal line?
FuriousFox46 Posted 22 November 2013 Author Posted 22 November 2013 When you say 'great' I'm thinking of the 'biggest' and most momentous goal rather than the best footballing goal. Went for Claridge on that basis. How does one define the greatest goal? Do you mean the most spectacular, important, solo effort, or what? That's up to you to decide
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 November 2013 Posted 22 November 2013 It's got to be Keith 1974 v Luton. That was a great goal, from a great player.
Guest Posted 22 November 2013 Posted 22 November 2013 Barry Hayles shinned stunner against Palace, the stuff of legend!
Rob1742 Posted 22 November 2013 Posted 22 November 2013 I was right behind the goal for Izzets against Grimsby, so for me, that was the best, with the best view. Others that I thought were extremely special at the time were Keith Weller v Newcastle around 1975 Joachim v Barnsley Coatsworth v Luton Knockaert v Huddersfield Some though are special because of the away say. I remember Jimmy Quinn scoring a normal header v Leeds. You are one nil down, miles from home and desperate for something to send you home happy. Up pops Quinn and the world is a much better place.
gazfox9 Posted 23 November 2013 Posted 23 November 2013 Was a great goal. Wasn't better than Gallaghers v Palace. People's vendetta against Gally prevented him winning that goal of the season. Absolutely agree Bert. Not a massive Gally fan myself, but thats the best brace from a city player I've ever seen, and the second arguably the best goal I've ever witnessed live.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 23 November 2013 Posted 23 November 2013 Andy Peake vs Liverpool 1980. 30 yard screamer beating arguably the best keeper in the world at the time against the best team in the world at the time, who hadn't had the double done over them for 6-7 seasons at the time (and yes, we did beat them home and away). When you take it all into context, I don't think there can be any argument.

Trumpet Posted 23 November 2013 Posted 23 November 2013 This could be...the winner from Claridge... IT IS! Well, but, that could be....
Winnershfox Posted 23 November 2013 Posted 23 November 2013 Nalis v leeds that took some doing. Remember seeing it live..incredible.
Aus Fox Posted 24 November 2013 Posted 24 November 2013 Gary Coatsworths 30 yard volley at Filbert St was better than Lillian's in my opinion, I can't remember who it was against butCoatworth didn't score many. So should be easy to find. Other favourites Joachim against Barnsley Heskey against Southampton first home game at filbert st. When he was just a kid But when judging a great goal I always think could anyone else have scored that, we have all played and occasionally hit a volley on the edge of the area sweetly and watched it nestle into the corner but I don't think anyone else at that level could have scored Muzzys V Grimsby so that's number one followed by Joachim V Barnsley

If I remember correctly it made MOTD goal of the season. This is one that will always stay in my memory.
Nick Posted 24 November 2013 Posted 24 November 2013 Voted for claridge. It wasn't so much the goal, but what it meant. This.

ithuriel Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 So many great goals over the years, decided to go with Garry Parkers stunner against Stoke in the play offs 1996 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plbDc4K0mDs
NorthernFox Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Izzet's goal against Grimsby was technically brilliant and gets my vote of BEST goal. I have always loved Walshy's goal against Arsenal just for the reaction. Same with the Nalis one because of the guy on Fanzone for Leeds who had a t-shirt made up with City 0-4 Leeds made for the night!! What a dick .
Zingari Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 As much as it hurts me to say this, I'd loved to have said it was from a good old English player like Weller, Claridge , Sammels or Walsh , but it's Lilian Nalis , followed by Anthony Knockeart that are the two best goals for me. Feckin French show off bastrads!!

Fox92 Posted 28 November 2013 Posted 28 November 2013 Can anyone remember Gudjonsson's goal against Stoke? One of the best free kicks I've ever seen. We lost 2-3 away.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 November 2013 Posted 28 November 2013 Can anyone remember Gudjonsson's goal against Stoke? One of the best free kicks I've ever seen. We lost 2-3 away. Yeah but unfortunately great goals which are scored in losses, especially against similar opposition are always forgotten about due to the importance. Konckesky's at Wolves last season will go the same like everyone has forgotten King's volley at West Ham
