The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 It seems like the only person shocked by this is Tom himself
Soar Fox Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 lol As if we didn't know this years ago. Can't believe it's took him this long to come out.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 I think his PR people just needed to remind people he still exists so that they might watch the new series of Splash, without just coming out and saying "a new series of Splash is coming soon" - it's less embarrassing
Bert Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Don't see why he should need to come out anyway. He's gay. So what.
Jimothy Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Don't see why he should need to come out anyway. He's gay. So what. He doesn't in the mind of people like me or you who aren't bigots stuck in the dark ages. But some people are stuck in those dark ages, and some will say, such as the guy I've just heard on the radio, that the more high profile people, especially sportsmen, that come out will hopefully make it more acceptable, and make the bigots think again.
marko Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Don't see why he should need to come out anyway. He's gay. So what. Exactly. Man, who happens to be an exceptional athlete, is dating another man. So what?! The way it's in the news it's like a man being gay is a new discovery.
Guest MattP Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 .if ever a man didn't need to come out its him. We all know what happened with him and Colin Jackson on the Olympic village.
Captain... Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 .if ever a man didn't need to come out its him. We all know what happened with him and Colin Jackson on the Olympic village. I don't, not sure if you are joking or not, is Jackson gay? He isn't gay, he is bisexual. Everyone's a winner
Guest MattP Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 I don't, not sure if you are joking or not, is Jackson gay? Everyone's a winner Can't say to much as you can get sued. But strong rumours say someone got hold of someone one at age even you wouldn't condone.

Guest MattP Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 lol I very much doubt he's only just realised he's gay in less than 3 months. The video is incredible, it "took him by surprise" apparently. I suppose it could happen to any of us, shag women all your life then you accidentally take a cock up your arse and the closet doors fly open. The guardian would print that and try and pass it off.

What if its Federers? But back on the subject of Daley - maybe this was a 'closet key' thing for him, but yeah I'm sceptical about that myself. Most likely he's known for ages that he likes both kinds. It's good that he's decided to go public with it though - think there's still too much pressure on top-level sportsmen to keep such things secret for fear of backlash.

Danno Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Opened the second door of my advent calendar this morning. Wasn't expecting Tom Daley to come out.
Alf Bentley Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Don't see why he should need to come out anyway. He's gay. So what. Largely agree with this. I suppose part of the reason is that a lot of people (myself included) identified him as someone who might be gay. This generated a lot of harmless speculation and a small amount of hostility. The same doesn't apply for someone assumed to be straight (unless they're known for exotic sexual practices or wild promiscuity). Take Wes Morgan, for example: he seems like he's probably straight (maybe he's not; doesn't matter, er, a toss, to most people). But there isn't speculation about his sexuality - and a small minority aren't likely to abuse him for shagging women! http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/11/tom-daley-not-gay-reset-the-gaydar?CMP=twt_gu Always good to see the Guardian on the ball again. Stereotypes what planet do these people live on? The Guardian can be very annoying with its right-on attitude. However, I'm not sure they did anything wrong here. At the time (Sept), in the face of speculation, he was denying that he was gay. Should they have outed a 19-year-old, even if they had evidence that he wasn't being fully truthful? Where a mature adult is telling such untruths to abuse a position of responsibility, there's a case for outing, but not with a teenage sportsman....it's up to him whom he tells and when, surely? Anyway, the main point of the article seems to be that neither straights nor gays fit one "stereotype"....which is true. From your comments, you seem to be straight. The same applies to me. If either or both of us was a secret member of the Village People [photoshopping opportunity alert!], would that be anyone's business but our own?! In all seriousness, I faced some of this crap when I was a teenager - people speculating/insinuating that I was gay (even though I wasn't) and it was distressing and confusing.....maybe you just didn't face such problems as you weren't pretty enough, Matt! I don't face such problems myself these days, now that I'm a fat, ugly, booze-addled old git! Also, as Kingfox correctly points out, Daley seems to be saying not that he's gay, but that he's bisexual and in a gay relationship (there's a phrase you don't often read: "as Kingfox correctly points out"!). Good luck to Tom - and may God (or Darwin) bless us one and all....it's nearly Christmas!
StanSP Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Don't see why he should need to come out anyway. He's gay. So what. Basically this. The fact it gets a news story each time makes it more of an issue than it actually is.
Alf Bentley Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 can it affect your diving? If you're fully gay, presumably it would affect your muff diving performance, but as Daley seems to be bisexual that presumably doesn't apply. Indeed, I heard that he often achieves a perfect entry with a back pike while performing two-and-a-half somersaults with one-and-a-half twists, which is a more impressive technique than any I've ever managed.
