ImBlue Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 I feel pissed off after sitting through all that traffic, to watch what was a weak, uninspired performance, and lacklustre just doesn't cover it, but yes it is one game, and they need to go out Saturday and win, to repay the thousands that payed good money, and endured terrible traffic to watch that. That is what I hope happens, and not do what we did after Peterborough last season. We all believe we are a different side this year and they can prove that Saturday, by not feeling sorry for ourselfs and bounce straight back This. It's one game, 3 points, but it's 3 points we should be taking. Dust ourselves down and move on now, but we need to use this disappointment, think about last night and go and get results in the next 3 games putting it behind us.
mmfoxuk Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Right wing and we could do with a playmaker and another striker imo. Get your wallet out then son!! We have no money all we will be able to do is loan... at a push.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Get your wallet out then son!! We have no money all we will be able to do is loan... at a push. I laughed more than I should have.
Captain... Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 C'mon Col, if you can't tell the difference between our away form last season and our away form this, your head's on backwards. Coming back at Ipswich and wasting Watford showed a tactically astute side with mental steel-this isn't the same thing at all. Tonight was a shît result, obviously, and a pretty disappointing performance, but Knocky was clearly hurt, and we still had the better of them for most of the game. I think the problem is people can't tell the difference between one game and form. One game we were shit, no escaping from that, but form is over a longer period and our form this season has been pretty much spot on. Of course it could be better we could be further clear at the top, but anyone that has actual serious concerns because of 1 off day needs to really have a word with themselves. Sheff Wednesday away (1 game) = Shit Season 2013-14 so far (24 games) = Brilliant
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Which we can only really assess at the end of the season, thus rendering your scare-mongering tactics useless. Besides, not anyone who's criticizing you for your remarks is automatically an optimist. Using a phrase like 'scare mongering tactics' sums up exactly what im saying and shows how ridiculous these threads become. If you look at another thread that was posted last week, you'll see that I predicted we would lose last night. Why? Because I hate the club and Pearson? No.. Because I'm Gypsy Rose Lee? No... Because I bet on City losing a match? No.. Because I'm a scare mongerer? No.... No, why I was worried we might lose is because we remain somewhat fragile away from home... vis a vis our outstanding home form. Not as fragile as last season, I give you, but still not as strong as we could be. What would I do about it? Well I'd do nothing about it, I'm not the manager. What I've hoped Pearson will do about it is to fill up the midfield and sign a bigger, stronger midfielder to play in a 5 man midfield when we are being muscled out, away from home. I've been advocating this since the start of last season. So.... rather than chucking in 'scare-mongering' look at what I'm suggesting. Its only a suggestion, amongst many others. Yes, we are doing well. But IMO if we continue to lose games away from home, top two probably won't be attained. I've told you what I'd like to see. What would you like to see? Or do you genuinely believe that having lost 3 very winnable games away already, this gives no cause for concern? Enlighten us, if you wish to.
Babylon Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 But IMO if we continue to lose games away from home, top two probably won't be attained. If we continue to win, lose and draw games at the same rate we currently are we will most probably win the league. As people keep saying over and over and over again, which you seem to ignore, is that other teams are also dropping points. We have a better record away than QPR and have picked up one less than Burnley. So please stop writing off our chances, when the rate we are currently losing games is enough to get us promoted. If we don't keep up our current rate then you will have a point, but not until then.

And yes, yesterday was a poor display from Leicester, but whether or not our away form will play a part in our promotion push remains to be seen... at the end of the season. THEN we may look back at the Wednesday game (and the ones before that) and claim how naïve it was to throw it away against teams at the bottom of the table. Then again, other top clubs will kick themselves, too. Because they've done exactly the same - failing to get points away from home. This is the Championship. Rarely ever does one team run away and lead the race from start to finish (you can actually count the occasions on one hand). All your concerns are nought, because we cannot tell how the season's going to turn out in the end. I'm sure Pearson has addressed many of the shortcomings of the previous campaign - how else would we be standing at the top of the table at the moment? Personally, I'd like to see more consistency - we're already playing better than last season, we've come from behind a couple of times and some of the passing I've seen so far is a joy to the eye of the beholder. But all of this can still be improved. Also, I'd like to see Pearson make more suitable substitutions, because yesterday, we needed players like Taylor-Fletcher and Hammond much earlier on. And Wickham should've been marked by two defenders - Morgan struggled tremendously against him on his own.

Tonight was a shît result, obviously, and a pretty disappointing performance, but Knocky was clearly hurt, and we still had the better of them for most of the game. Our most disappointing game so far has been Forest, because we knew what they'd do, they did it and we had no answers. That was a home game. If we played Wednesday 10 times, we'd beat them 8, but the Forest game was painful and as many said on the day we could still be playing now and it would be 2-0. Crucially, the match did expose two weaknesses: our defence is nowhere near as watertight as we think it is (especially with Was at RB, which is a bizarre snub to Moore), and we have no cover for Knockeart. I am clearly an NP fan, but with the game as it was I'd have put Nuge on the right and brought Wood up front-I didn't understand Hammond being the choice. Away form is not the issue. Kasper and Wes lacking form, and Was in the wrong position is a big concern, as well as having no cover on RW. We need to go shopping in Jan, and we need to work on Wes and Schmeichel-if it means contracts then I really believe now is the time to gamble with FFP and go all out to keep their focus on the football... It will be interesting to see what people's reactions are if we go on to lose away again at the weekend.Personally, I don't think we will. Brighton are an awful side at present. But if we do, the discussion will continue.

But when we will, you'll be the first one to tell everybody else that you knew it would happen, anyway, eh? Sheffield Wednesday had also been poor... up until they sacked their manager. Yesterday was a cry for survival in the Championship for them and hence they gave 150%. Too much for us to handle and we were too complacent, as well.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 But IMO if we continue to lose games away from home, top two probably won't be attained. By "continue to", you mean 3 losses in 9 away games? "Continue to" suggests we're losing away week in, week out… which is clearly delusional 1 draw, but 5 wins. Away from home, that's a very good record. No team wins every away match. Clearly they don't, as we are still top of the league. It's not by fluke we are top of the league - the standard of competition is the same as always - we're just winning a great ratio of home and away games Granted, yesterday was a game we perhaps should have won, but let's not get into panic mode.

Babylon Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Brighton are an awful side at present. But if we do, the discussion will continue. Up until yesterday I thought they and us were top of the 6 game form tables.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Up until yesterday I thought they and us were top of the 6 game form tables. Correct - 3 wins, 1 draw in November (actually had a better month than us)

Is that clear or do you want me to write it again? Is there any point trying to discuss anything with you? Really? Thanks for your selective reading and thanks for omitting a reaction to my previous (and lengthier) reply to one of your posts. We shall meet again after the Brighton game on Saturday. After all, this "awful" side as you tend to call them, have amassed only 25 points so far, have only lost five times this season (and only once in their last seven games), and only three times at home up until today. My gosh, they must be "awful".
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Up until yesterday I thought they and us were top of the 6 game form tables. Fair play.. awful is too strong. They are 9 points off the bottom 3 and 13 points behind us. A 'mediocre' side would be more appropriate. Finally, they were turned over last game by Barnsley, at home, who ARE an awful side. I think we will win on Saturday.

Babylon Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 I like losing one game a month anyway... means Pearson won't pick up the Manager of the month award!!!!!!
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Well if we are as bad as some on here are making out, they must be fvcking atrocious, as they are 13 points behind us. We are clearly shit, hence why we lost last night I think most of the points we've amassed so far have been secretly awarded to us by the FA for taking steps to adhere to the FFP regs. Because we lose all the bloody time, no way we could have earned 38 points in 18 games as we must have lost… what… 16, 17 of them?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Brighton is easily winnable, but then again so was Sheff Wed.
Monsell1976 Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 I like losing one game a month anyway... means Pearson won't pick up the Manager of the month award!!!!!! with you on that, as long as nobody else gets sacked just before we play them, and Pearson doesn't get manager of the month, we will be alright, we are a superstitious lot us football fans,

foxfanazer Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Wednesday on a tuesday was never gonna be as easy as wednesday on a saturday
Matt Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 Right, I was quite relaxed last night saying we need to see how we bounce back, we need to move on, e.t.c, but now i've had time to reflect the pessimist in me has surfaced. (Come on people admit it, i've been very positive over the past month, maybe more, you have to admit). Obviously we have to see how we react and see if we bounce back on Saturday before we hit the panic button but i'm slightly worried, I fear deja vu might be setting in and the wheels might be coming off with the run in we have, I fear this may be our blip and whilst there is never a good time to have a blip this is one of the most crucial parts of the season, with some of our most important games coming up. We have Brighton away on Saturday, before you know it we'll have Burnley next Saturday then Man City in the cup (Which would be nice to win, but lets focus on the league), then it's QPR, before you know it we're into the Christmas period, games coming thick and fast, January appears and god knows where we'll be. Whist it may not be 'must win' time of year I feel a win on Saturday is very important just to calm us again, settle us, good to bounce back, but I think it'll be very tough on Saturday, if we do lose Saturday alarm bells will be ringing in the distance. Like I said last night hopefully we'll write last night off, move on, bounce back but i'm cautious and fearful of our next 4 games. We can assess it more on Saturday night I guess.
The Doctor Posted 4 December 2013 Posted 4 December 2013 A team that has genuine pretentions of winning the league should not be losing a game like this. And again, 3 of the 4 losses have come AWAY from home. That has to stop. Are you serious? We've lost 3 games away yes, but look at our away form all season: 5 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats: 16 points from 9 games - near enough 2ppg. Oh, and no team that wins the league would lose a game like this? Better ring Cardiff and tell them they didn't win the title last season given Peterborough did the double over them... Freak results happen, but on the whole we've been going very well.
