Leicester 1 - 3 Man City Post Match Thread.

I do not know for how many years I have been saying king is a liability in a 4-4-2 formation with Dyer and Knockaert ( /Gallagher ). Yesterday proved it again.

In the second half, after Drinky had his 15 minutes off period after his error gave them their third goal, I thought our three man midfield looked excellent. Last half hour King, Drinky and James were very good. It must be the way our team is selected for the Championship. I do not give a sh*t who else plays or in what position, as far as I am concerned that is the way forward this season as it should have been last season etc  etc.

Masive gulf between the teams in terms of value, in my book Leicester better value for their effort in the 2nd half always was going to be a masive ask to beat a team like Man City. some of their players were outstanding if only in 2nd gear at times

Don't feel let down at all, time to move on and learn from the game, just wish I had a ticket for QPR on Saturday, need to carry that 2nd half level of performance into the QPR game and through the Christmas period to push on

Man City fan here in peace. It's interesting to hear your thoughts about the match and I guess it shows just how far we've come as we weren't at our best last night by any means. I was a little disappointed in your side as I was expecting the match to be a real potential banana skin. There's no doubt that we have hit some form recently but we can have a soft centre when we're got at. We lost at Cardiff, Villa and Sunderland earlier in the season. If you'd got in our faces a bit more, then the outcome may have been different. I was expecting a real blood and thunder contest but it never panned out like that. Maybe the relatively early goal flattened the atmosphere and took the wind out of your sales. I lost count of the amount of misplaced 5-10 yard passes that went out of play from you, which I don't think can be attributed to the quality of the opposition. These are just a few observations that I made and I wish you well in your promotion push. It would be great to have you back. Hopefully see you again next season!

One thing last night proved is that Anthony Knockaert is by far and away our best player in an attacking sense on the ball. In the first half he was the only player who looked capable of causing Manchester City problems. However what is also showed us is that he is an absolute liability playing on the wing in a 4-4-2. He's never been a winger and never will be a winger. 

 

Nigel needs to realise that playing a 4-4-2 with Knockaert on the right will always leave us exposed and that is how Man City exploited us for their 2nd goal. We need to move away from the 4-4-2 and get Knockaert in a position centrally where he has less defensive responsibilities and gets on the ball more. 

 

This needs to happen and sharpish.

 

Knockaert has a license to go where he wants in most games so he isnt stuck out on the right wing

I've backed Nuge all the way this season when there's been some very unjustified criticism of him amongst Leicester fans. I'm also not sure on Schlupp, I think he's got something, but I don't know if he can consistently do it. If he's good enough, why hasn't he had a decent run in the side? However...

Nugent was hopeless last night. Really poor. His control, his passing, his strength and worst of all, his body language. I kept looking at him strolling around, head down, almost sluggish. I don't know what's up with him but he needs a break. If Wood were fit he'd surely replace Nuge in the starting 11. Maybe we can't do any worse than giving Schlupp a go?

 

Pretty much how I feel. I don't think there's a single forward other than Vardy I'd be convinced by at the minute. I've not written Taylor-Fletcher off yet though.

 

I wonder if he'll go 4-2-3-1 with Knockaert where he should be, but then who plays on the right?

De Laet's not played there so I think that's an argument against it, but he's got all the attributes and he's good enough defensively and offensively to play there in my opinion.

It unsurprisingly seemed like men v boys to me. I was gutted really how we went down without a fight. Had Vardy and De Laet started we'd have looked much stronger IMO

One day after the match I'm thoroughly convinced Pearson regarded the Manchester City match as a sole training exercise, giving almost everybody a run-out and some game time before the clash with QPR on Saturday.

 

Hence the lack of effort and the many mistimed passes for close to 75 minutes.

I saw it as completely different. A set of fans actually itching to get behind the team and to thoroughly enjoy a good cup tie.

Unfortunately, the completely insipid performance until about 75 mins gave the fans little to get excited about.

Similar to the Forest game.. again a big crowd watching an abject performance on the pitch and no surprise thereafter that the attendace for the next game was lower 20k I believe?

In terms of value for money last night, Man City fully justified the seat prices. Leicester City didn't.

Abs right Col.  I groaned when the team was announced;  didn't look like a team set up to go for it.  I think the Man City fan above was right - if we'd got into their faces from the start, made it into a blood-and-thunder cup tie, then the crowd would have responded and it would have given us a faint chance.

 

Having travelled down from Manc to watch the match I was disappointed by our approach, angry even;  though part of me sympathises with Pearson's dilemma in gauging how to approach the 3 hard games this week, working out how to prioritise them.

GTF was never going to cause their back 4 any trouble and apart from a couple of decent appearances, we were never in it.

The gap between the top clubs in the premiership and sides like us is absolutely vaste and probably unbridgable.

 

Not only were they technically far better player for player , as you would expect, but they just seemd to work a lot harder off the ball than we did. When we had possession they closed down several seconds quicker than we did and usually in twos and threes.

 

Fortunately Kaspar made a few solid saves and we were not completely disgraced. We created a few chances and scored a well taken goal but it showed how far we have to go.

 

Not only were their players technically good but they had greater physicality than we did. Often when our midfield tried to tackle theirs our players weren't strong enough in the challenge to win the ball.

 

A fairly flat evening really in which we never once looked capable of causing an upset.

Dont forget, quite a few people on here see the Premiership as 'not all that' and suggest that we would hold our own with a couple or three key signings.

Fair play, even a weakened Man City are one of the best teams around, but you are quite right, the cup game showed a huge gulf in class.

Personally, even with some additions, I think our squad would pretty much get mullered in the Prem.

It was a cup quarter final and Pearson started Fletch and Nugent up against Kompany and Lescott. Says it all really.

Finally, the game in a nutshell showed up King's frailty against superior opposition. Most of the game simply passed him by.

We had such a lack of belief that we could win that game. I would have gone mad at them at half time.

If we'd played with that attacking positive play that we have done with so many championship games we'd have panicked a side who have been very vulnerable away from home to sides not much better than us this season.

I went over to holland recently and watched ajax put 4 past ado den haag.

the gulf in class was ridiculous and it was like a training game.

the one thing I came away thinking was there was no tackles no blood no thunder.

in this country if your are shit and the opposition better you ****ing nail them, get in their faces.

Watching the game on DSTV in a bar in Cape Town. Friday afternoon beers and Dyer terrifying defences is brilliant. Only LCFC player I have noticed so far.

 

When they have scored, they look so confident and composed. Definitely a class (or several) above.
