I thought it was a good game. Knocky seemed really nervous or frustrated. 

 

I think this will actually make them play better against QPR. Even though it's a loss, it's still momentum.

First 75 minutes - bad to mediocre at best. Last 25 minutes - good.

Overall, mediocre. But not awful.

They were on a different planet.

They stopped at 3.

Morgan was run ragged, did King have a touch first half?

And GTF? Why?

Anyway.. bring on QPR and lets resume some semblance of normality. Saturdays game is one to look forward to.

As for Man City, they are a superb side. Much better than the one we played with Sven at our helm, at their place AND made a much better fist of it that night to be fair.

They made changes but it wasn't exactly their reserves with dzeko, silva, Navas, lescott, Milner, etc in the team was it?

We also made changes, remember we played a Miquel who in our top 11 wouldn't play, de leat was replaced by was at RB, James was replaced ( vital player for us, if not our best player), GTf started when he wouldn't ever start normally.

That's 4 changes for us and our depth is pretty poor tbh, but for us to play SOME good stuff with our own ring of changes was positive.

I didn't think we were poor at all. We just couldn't quite get hold of the ball against a team that is clearly going to win big things this year.

Heads up guys. Lloyd for one will be buzzing after tonight!

I just want to say this about a few of the unfamiliar faces sitting near me today...

 

If you start your criticism of a player with 'that guy' or 'that number x' or 'that small bloke' then you're probably not qualified to criticize. You certainly shouldn't be deciding that they're a shit footballer five minutes into the game.

Am I the only one that thinks only losing 3-1 to a team that put 6 past arsenal at the weekend, is a good result?. They didn't really put out a weakened team either whilst we made quite a few changes

No agree with you too many doom and gloom merchants thinking we were awful and we were not too good in the first half but those substitutions made a hell of a difference would love to see James schlupp start Saturday and dyer was absolutely outstanding !!

I think we will see a much better city side on Saturday following tonight's game we played some superb football at times against a premier league winning side !!

At the end of the day, whatever tactics we played we would've lost to a team in top form, full of world class players

Tactically we were all wrong and were wide open. They stopped at 3, make no mistake about that.

I came away feeling flat. Ive seen so many league cup nights at Filbert St, the ground rocking and us having half a chance of winning. Tonight's game was nothing by comparison.

It was men against boys really.

And to play GTF in front of Schlupp tonight made no sense to me.

We were never gonna win tonight but we could at least have made a game of it.

At risk of pissing off the pro Pearson brigade again, frankly Man City were very good and we were garbage.

A total anti-climax IMO.

On a plus point, at least we made some money out of it..

pretty much sums up what I felt, although not quite as negative.

They were unbelievably good. No shame in losing to them- so quick, strong, skilful, organised. What a team.

Only concern for me from that was Nugent. I thought he was utterly hopeless. His body language was awful. If we had a decent replacement, he'd be on the bench. Terrible.

Thought we did alright to be honest. Some tidy play against probably the best side in the country.

Seems unfortunately we're not quite as good as Bayern. What were people seriously expecring from tonight?

I thought we showed them way too much respect. A lot of the tackling was half-hearted; Man City would have expected a physical encounter from a Championship side and they didn't get it.

 

I'm not too worried by this performance, but we're massively deluded if we try to give ourselves credit for it. Man City were rarely at full stretch and after the hour mark they took their foot off the pedal all together, players were laughing, joking, strolling about the park without a care in the world.

 

The truth is that if we put in that sort of application against Millwall, let alone QPR, we'll be beaten. Even in the Championship you won't get away with a limp-wristed display like that, not to mention misplaced passes all over the park and Wasilewski-Morgan apparently lacking any sort of understanding on the right side of defence.

 

It's embarrassingly quaint to see people crowing about Dyer's performance (failed to outpace anyone, couldn't pick out a 5 yard pass, had the ball control of a gazelle on speed and scored with a lucky deflection) or saying Morgan and Drinkwater did alright (they didn't). I'd give James a few brownie points for stamping his authority on a game which the opposition had already forgotten about, and Schmeichel for a few good saves after being hopelessly out of position for their first.

 

On a final note, what a shame we didn't give Schlupp, James and Moore more of a chance to cut their teeth against quality opposition. As has often been the case in the past, many of the veterans (Wasilewsi, Taylor-Fletcher, Nugent, Morgan particularly) didn't rise to the occasion and a game like today's would be a great lesson for a developing player. Miquel and James showed glimpses of promise. And if it goes wrong, the player can still benefit. Even a player as apparently resistant to learning as Knockaert might have picked something up today.

I can't agree that we gave them too much respect. They are just an absolutely brilliant team.

better than arsenal tottenham man u norwich swansea and a few others that aint bad

But to be fair they played a much "weaker" side and treated it as if it was a kick about on the park, it was nothing but a warm up for most of them.

Can't get to excited about the result, outclassed all over the park, which was to be expected.

The only thing that frustrated me was we seemed to want to walk the ball in, a couple of times it seemed to open up, but the shot was turned down and passed sideways.

I just want to add the atmosphere was one of the worst I have heard, or should I say didn't hear down there for a long time
