Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 I read yesterday it's rumoured John Terry is thinking of coming out of International retirement and making himself available for England's next game against Denmark. Personally if he did make himself available I hope Roy Hodgson would say no thanks. All he wants is a World Cup place, I don't want to see him in an England shirt again. Would anybody want him back?
Ric Flair Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Sadly, yes I would welcome him back. We are that appalling in defence at the minute that we need this cretin, badly.
Soar Fox Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Yes I'd take him back. We haven't got a natural leader at the back and even though he hasn't got any pace he's still our only world class defender.
Captain... Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 I don't, we are not going to win the World Cup with or without Terry, so I would rather cheer us on to our inevitable disappointment without that cvnt.
Beliall Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 no thanks. would rather help the younger players gain experience
Bert Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Get him back. Still the best central defender we have. Organises a back line well and has vital experience.
Langston Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 no thanks. would rather help the younger players gain experience Younger players won't, though. It'll be an overweight Phil Jagielka taking his place. Whether people think Terry's a dick or not should be irrelevant for me (however unfortunate that sounds), surely you want your best players eligible for selection? He and Cahill play together week in, week out - that could prove invaluable, and now that plodder Ferdinand has retired internationally, there shouldn't be any dressing room disruption. No brainer, for me.

No brainer, for me. This is the key for me. If he makes himself available you can't turn down a pairing that play together week in, week out for their club. Whilst Jagielka is undoubtedly a better player than Cahill, the already-established partnership of Terry and Cahill would certainly be of benefit to England, particularly considering central defence is probably the weakest area of our national team currently.

No brainer, for me. But it will be a Jones or Smalling or Shawcross, that will miss out on the squad place, and valuable experience. Terry really isn't up to it any more, I know he has had a few decent games recently, but do you really think he is up to the rigours of a World Cup schedule including a match in the sweltering Amazon. I also think it is a step backwards to pick someone because of "PASHUN", which is all he really has left, we want to be a top footballing nation, we need to prioritise centre backs that are comfortable on the ball over those that, "put their bodies on the line". He is old and slow, and whilst it could be beneficial to have him playing alongside his regular partner, England play in a very different way to Chelsea, the don't have the quality of midfielders in front of the back four to protect them, and don't play the possession game well enough to limit the oppositions chances and invite pressure on them, not ideal at the best of times, but if you have an old slow centre back, it is a recipe for disaster. He is also a twat and I find it much harder to cheer on any team with him in it.
Samilktray Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Never a more overrated defender than this guy.
RobHawk Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 He made the choice to retire from international football! Now a set of players that didn't include him have qualified he wants to come back? Not if i was woy! He isn't the player he once was anyway and i think this attitude of being able to decide when you will and won't play for England is outrageous and something we need to get rid of! Letting him back in the squad sends the wrong message to all those other players who would be desperate for a cap whether it be the world cup or a friendly against the Faroe islands! I'm fed up of watching "stars" go through paces and look like they don't even care! Getting capped by your country should be a huge honor and for me, he made his bed so no he shouldn't be allowed back!

He is also a twat and I find it much harder to cheer on any team with him in it. The only there who is actually young is Phil Jones, Shawcross is 26 and Smalling is 24. And most importantly none of them are, or ever will, be as good as John Terry, who has only just turned 33 and hasn't really lost any pace (never been blessed with a lot) to sum him up as somebody he just puts their body on the line and is now old an slow is quite frankly not something I'd expect any self respecting football fan to come out with. He reads the game better than any English center back since the 90's is absolutely imperious in the air and we could certainly do with him in the team. From a footballing perspective it is a total no brainier. You are right there and that is ultimately why people try and pick holes in his football that aren't there. That said him deciding he wants to play again just because the World Cup is coming around doesn't really sit well with me so I'm sort of on the fence.

I'd much rather Terry over either Jones or Smalling, neither of which get any consistent amount of time at centre half for Man United. I'm not saying Terry is a world beater by any means but he's much better than a lot of other options we have, we shouldn't be accommodating (what are at the moment) average young players in the squad purely for the "experience," though I can see where you're coming from. We all know it'll be Cahill and Jagielka lining up against Italy anyway, barring injury. Such a shame Ashley Williams decided he was Welsh.
ousefox Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Hate to say it as he's a twat but we could do with him back. Terry, Cole and Gerrard were our best players at the Euros.
Uncle Albert Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Never a more overrated defender than this guy. I hope that is intended to get people biting? England really do need John Terry back, not just because he is comfortably the best English centre half in the country but because of his leadership, noise and the fact he would put his body on the line for this country, I'm not saying Jagielka wouldn't but Terry is the better centre half. This still gives me goosebumps.

You're right about those players I mentioned, I was really struggling to think of any decent young central defenders we have, which is the bigger issue, the fact that Terry could actually get in our squad. Call up Liam Moore.

Manwell Pablo Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 He didn't even block that. He just looked like a prat. Or a fish. Did it not hit his head? Even if it didn't A+ for effort surely
Kitchandro Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Did it not hit his head? No, it went under his body and Johnson blocked it.
Uncle Albert Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Yeah diving infront of a shot with just his head made him look really stupid.
Bert Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 John Terry you are such an idiot for throwing yourself in front of a football like that.
Kitchandro Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Yeah diving infront of a shot with just his head made him look really stupid. Well it did. It certainly shouldn't give you 'goosebumps', you big girl.
Captain... Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev1S8quL9rE I did make him look stupid and shouldn't give anyone goosebumps just a chuckle.
