Dr The Singh Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 When I was at Soar Valley one of the Indian kids taught a phrase (I'm spelling this phonetically) Daddy man ganny bubbla tat. I said it to another Indian kid and he nearly filled me in. That's gujarati dude, there swear words are lame compared to punjabi, it can be such a crude language....by the way you said 'your mothers arse lick boobs', he probably wanted to beat you up for misuse of the gujarati language. Sorry to say this, in light with the political revelations of british involvement on the bombing of the golden temple and massacre of Sikhs in 1984, India is a continent, there is no such thing as an Indian, the Indian government has shown it does not see Sikhs as Indian but the enemy. In gujarat, today Sikh farmers have been kicked out of gujarat for not being gujarati, which is legal.
Guest MattP Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Off topic, but I watched World War Z on a BA flight, and it said it had been edited for the flight, it basically cut out a huge plane crash scene, understandable, but when it is vital to the plot it seemed a little ridiculous to go from being on a plane with a zombie bursting out and chaos, to suddenly being on the ground surrounded by rubble. Surely you just advise that there is a scene depicting an air crash, and not to watch if you can't distinguish real life from a film. I was on an Air Canada flight not long after and my neghbour was watching it, so I kept glancing at the screen next to me, and watched to see if they had cut the same scene, they hadn't. Weird I remember reading that a film with a plane crash was actually on the Air France flight that came down over Brazil, that's irony for you.
ADK Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 It always makes me laugh when I watch dam busters and the dog is called Nigger. I probably shouldn't laugh but it's so un-PC.

He said it was something like "go and suck your mothers boobs" I've probably not remembered it right As for the Indian thing it's just lazy shorthand. No offence intended.

That's what you would have said, if you didn't say 'gaany' No offence taken, the truth is coming out, soon all Sikhs in the world will see the facts and then hopefully make a decision on there soverienty of there homeland.
fuchsntf Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Just what i was going to say. Amazing what people thought was ' funny' in the 70's. You can censor a milliontimes, doesnt stop it being funny. 60s 70s comedy, still hold., Black comedy houses in the USA shown on Tv taking the pi$$ out of ol whitey are still Funny. At school in the 60s, two of my asian friends were fighting each other, one Turned around and screamed, 'Get off me you black bast@×$ '. We all laughed including the recipitent. To go further even funnier, ' but he is blacker than me!!!! ' its the timing, its the situation. Look at us English whiteys, we are all spotted easy on holidays, just look out for the lobsters strawn over the beach. I detest any racist action, or remark.I lost a girlfriend to drugs, I lost 3 friends to aggressive acts, while working in Africa. I have been present at accidents, Earthquakes and seen poverty and Human tragedy.like a few migrants to our country. But humour is humour, no matter what the topic.
Fox92 Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Just what i was going to say. Amazing what people thought was ' funny' in the 70's. Still think all of it is funny. We just get told we shouldn't laugh at it, which is a shame because we've all got to sit back and laugh at each other from time to time. And before anybody says anything, it works towards all races - the Pakistan man on OFAH who runs the restaurant in the episode "Cash and Curry" from Series One is remains one of my favourite characters though he only appears for about 5 minutes. "You people all look the same to me" he says to Del Boy and Rodney. That always cracks me up. Comedy this Country (because we're the best at it) has produced has been sensational down the years, actual genius. John Cleese still remains my favourite comedian/writer. Monty Python and Fawlty Towers is so so funny, and as John Sullivan said, they set the standards for comedy.
Rincewind Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Anyone remember Goodness gracious Me? When they went into a restaurant and ordered an English. The blandest thing on the menu. And now we have Citizen Karn. Who said muslims have no sense of humour. They are taking the micky out of their own religion. But I do wonder how some of it woul be taken if written by non-muslim writers. A little bit is OK but continual references could be seen as OTT.
I am Rod Hull Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 The funniest racist (I use the term racist in a BBC/C4 kind of way) remark I have ever heard was by a lad at work when he called his Scottish work mate a " f***ing porridge wog" It still makes me laugh just thinking about it
Finnaldo Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 The funniest racist (I use the term racist in a BBC/C4 kind of way) remark I have ever heard was by a lad at work when he called his Scottish work mate a " f***ing porridge wog" It still makes me laugh just thinking about it That's sublime Was it in jest or a full on insult?
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Fawlty towers, The Young Ones, Rising Damp they all had a little racism, a reflection of the times, but times change.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 I thought this was a Peep Show reference at first.
I am Rod Hull Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 That's sublime Was it in jest or a full on insult? A bit of both.
