Rincewind Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 According to Jay Raynor -food critic. http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/jan/19/10-best-value-restaurants-britain?CMP=fb_gu Has anyone been in any of these? Too expensive for me. Just going out for my Sunday dinner now. There are no Leicester places on the list.
Jimothy Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Strangely the only one I've been is the number 1, Magpie Cafe in Whitby. Very nice fish and chips, was the uk's best chip shop winner at the time I went,
Merging Cultures Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Too expensive for me. They have two restaurants at £8. Too expensive? Even if you take out the cost of travel?
Soar Fox Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 They have two restaurants at £8. Too expensive? Even if you take out the cost of travel? I thought that, anything under £12 and I start to question the quality of the food I'm eating.
Kinowe Soorie Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 What about the top ten in Leicester? Le Bistrot Pierre would be in there for me.
Merging Cultures Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 I thought that, anything under £12 and I start to question the quality of the food I'm eating. Definitely. But from what I've been learning from reading these threads, he probably didn't read the article. What about the top ten in Leicester? Le Bistrot Pierre would be in there for me. I arranged a date there many years ago. She stood me up.
Rincewind Posted 19 January 2014 Author Posted 19 January 2014 The more expensive they are you start paying for fancy decorations not quantity. A slice of meat on top of a lettuce leaf is not my ideal meal. £8 is not too bad TBH. I was referring to the £20 plus places. It deponds on the deposable income one has. When i went to my sisters birthday dinner it cost us £30 each although that did include drinks.
Haydos Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 The more expensive they are you start paying for fancy decorations not quantity. A slice of meat on top of a lettuce leaf is not my ideal meal. £8 is not too bad TBH. Also being in a nice restaraunt and not at wetherspoons.
Rincewind Posted 19 January 2014 Author Posted 19 January 2014 Depends on the siyuation. I mostly go on my own so all the extras are not my top priority just value. If in company then service importance rises.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 What about the top ten in Leicester? Le Bistrot Pierre would be in there for me. Each one to their own personally I thought Le Bistro Pierre was terrible, small portions, average food and the worst beer I have ever had, vedett, awful. Service was friendly though.

Soar Fox Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 The Windmill Inn is a great shout, that's a seriously good pub. The food is really good.
Rincewind Posted 19 January 2014 Author Posted 19 January 2014 Just had roast beef Sunday lunch in the Slug. Not bad. 7.95.watched some of the second half of Swansea v spurs game. Only problem is they had awful jazzy music in the background. Rugby on now and they have just turned the volume up so there is loud music and loud TV. Not good for the ears.
Unabomber Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 The food is really good. Yeah definitely one of of the best in Leicestershire.
MooseBreath Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Disappointed not to see Maryland chicken in there tbh.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 The Windmill Inn is a great shout, that's a seriously good pub. Used to live just up the road in Newbold. Nothing better than a summers afternoon dog walk finishing up with a baguette from there. God they were good, even put a bowl of water down for the mutt too.

Kinowe Soorie Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Barceloneta is good. I quite like Terracotta for Buffett.
Langston Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Anywhere in Birmingham's Chinatown is the nads.
Rincewind Posted 19 January 2014 Author Posted 19 January 2014 Quantity? Quantity? You have no place in the thread Ken, Jesus. What is wrong with wanting more than a couple of mouthfuls. I don't want to go out to save cooking at home only to pay £20 plus for a couple of mouthfuls then having to do a fry up when i get home. Like I said it depends on the occasion.
