Uncle Albert Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Seen the picture knocking around on Twitter of D.B Cooper, absolutely brilliant story. "One day before Thanksgiving in 1971. a man boarded Northwest Airlines flight #305, a Boeing 727. He was identified as Dan Cooper and was said to be wearing a dark suit and a black tie. During the flight, Cooper passed a note to the flight attendant. The note read "I have a bomb in my briefcase, I will use it if necessary, I want you to sit next to me. You are being hijacked." Cooper then showed the bomb to the flight attendant and demanded $200,000 in American currency, four parachutes, and a fuel truck standing in Seattle to refuel the aircraft upon arrival. The flight landed in Seattle at 17:39PM, the cash was delivered and Cooper permitted all passengers to leave the Plane except two pilots, one flight attendant and one flight engineer. Cooper demanded the aircraft then take a Southeast course towards Mexico City. After the flight took off, Cooper demanded that the crew gather in the cockpit and keep the door closed. At approximately 20:00PM, a warning light came on in the cockpit indicating that the planes back airstair had been opened. At approximately 22:15PM the plane was landed in Reno, Nevada. FBI agents soon discovered that Cooper was no longer on the plane. Cooper was never to be seen or heard from again and it remains the only unsolved hijacking in US history." Most won't be interested in this but I thought it was brilliant.
Unabomber Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Read about this a few years ago, I guess it's just one of those things that will never be solved.
Soar Fox Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 I thought it was a made up story in Prison break, didn't actually know it was a true story.
Captain... Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Interesting story but what is to solve? He opened the doors and jumped out with the parachutes he had received with the money. Or am I missing something?
Uncle Albert Posted 22 January 2014 Author Posted 22 January 2014 I thought it was a made up story in Prison break, didn't actually know it was a true story. That's exactly what I thought, it wasn't until I typed it into Google and it came up DB Cooper that it hit me about Prison Break.
Fox92 Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Interesting story but what is to solve? He opened the doors and jumped out with the parachutes he had received with the money. Or am I missing something? Who he actually is. Would he still be alive?
Bert Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Love prison break! Also didn't know this was a true story! A bit similar to that in the programme, mind.
Fox92 Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 There are loads of cases like this. It's just that he still hasn't been found and I believe D Cooper is just a name to a face.
Unabomber Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Interesting story but what is to solve? He opened the doors and jumped out with the parachutes he had received with the money. Or am I missing something? Did he die? Did he actually land with the money and is he still alive today.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 January 2014 Author Posted 22 January 2014 Will the FBI still being running a case on this or will it be completely forgotten about now?
Guest MattP Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 The four parachutes delivered were actually rucksacks. Dan Cooper was Irish. Mystery Solved. Verdict: Accidental Suicide
MooseBreath Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 I don't condone that kind of crime, but getting away with a hijacking is a great effort. Sometimes I wonder if diverting my attentions towards pulling off one large crime might be better than endlessly chipping away at the more legal and socially acceptable grindstone. A big risk for sure, but if you've got the guts to play games that big the rewards can be massive.
Fox92 Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Will the FBI still being running a case on this or will it be completely forgotten about now? I'm not sure how long forces keep cases open for. I mean, it took about 5 years before they got Reynolds after the Great Train Robbery.
NewburyFox Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 At what height was the plane when he jumped out? You can't just open the door and jump out of a plane at 30,000 feet.
Webbo Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 At what height was the plane when he jumped out? You can't just open the door and jump out of a plane at 30,000 feet. I'm pretty sure I've heard of this case and it was said that nobody could survive a parachute jump at that height.
ousefox Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Read about this after watching Prison Break. Very interesting story. Some of the money was found IIRC but only a relatively small amount.
StanSP Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Knew the name rang a bell. Then when someone mentioned Prison Break it clicked. Would be nice in a way if it was solved. But unlikely!
Manwell Pablo Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 At what height was the plane when he jumped out? You can't just open the door and jump out of a plane at 30,000 feet. I'm guessing he was aware of that. Well either that or he died
Bridge Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Old D.B. is still a folk hero around here. I used to fish up around the area where he did his jump & always imagined finding the cash along the river bank…don't think the boy survived.
Uncle Albert Posted 23 January 2014 Author Posted 23 January 2014 Surely someone would of come across his body by now though if he had died? 43 years later..
Bridge Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 Surely someone would of come across his body by now though if he had died? 43 years later.. Maybe..however it's very rough remote country in the Cascades. A hunter came across a WW2 trainer airplane lost in the 40's a few years ago in those hills. So a body might disappear as well.
Vlad the Fox Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 They should of filed his parachute bag with cuddly toys.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 23 January 2014 Posted 23 January 2014 Heard about this on pawn stars, a bloke had a 20 dolar bill from the wreck. Was all torn up though.
