Socks Posted 27 January 2014 Author Posted 27 January 2014 Not saying they should be in the english pl at all but dont aee the point in in the spl at all. Maybe they should put some limits on it otherwise will just be celtic every f'ing year for the next 10 years And we all know their pure pish in europe
Dan Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 When has the SPL ever over-achieved? Rangers getting to a Europa League Final a few years ago and Celtic beating Barcelona? For a country of Scotland's size that is an over-achievement. Pretty sure I read Scotland have the highest percentage of their population in the world attend football.
Fox92 Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 It's two divisions, like the English Premier League. Never really going to be exciting with how Celtic dominate, but at least the other sides can go for the runners up position. Not one for disrespecting it because we've got (and had) some good players from the SPL in the PL and Championship.
dave_the_fox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Going to be even worse next season with Hearts going down. No Glasgow or Edinborough derbies What about Celtic v the jags!?
ScouseFox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 A better question would probably have been to ask if anyone ever had any interest in Scottish football to begin with.
Vacamion Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 God help me, I occasionally meander along to watch Partick Thistle. I've never been when they've played either of the old firm, both of which clubs' fans I hate. I think most of the usually less than 5,000 other souls there will agree that it can be grim, poor quality stuff at times. At other times, however rare they may be, it can be uplifting, inspiring stuff. That's why people go to watch football, isn't it? The occasional bit of gold atop the dung heap? I have been to a fair few Scottish grounds and the best bit of the day? Honestly? Usually the pie and hot bovril and the ability to complain And the occasional 30 yard screamer into the top corner. As for this: Why do bbc news show the SPL results in England? The clue is in the first B... I ain't exactly keen on knowing how Total Network Solutions (or whatever they are called this week) got on, but it is the cultural price we pay for living in these isles, in these polities... And there is no way that either or both of the Old Firm will join the English leagues. Ever. As I've said in here before, I wish they would both just fvck off and just play each other every week...
Mickey O'Neil Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Another Scottish football bashing thread. Nice. Oh, I'll just add Hail Hail!!!!! 'Mon the Hoops!!!
Uncle Albert Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 For a country of Scotland's size that is an over-achievement. Pretty sure I read Scotland have the highest percentage of their population in the world attend football. How is that over-achieving? Rangers reaching the Final is not as impressive as Middlesbrough reaching the Final, a club the size of Middlesbrough's at the time was a lot smaller than Rangers. Scotland hype themselves up to much i'm afraid when it comes to football, need to realise their size and their understand they're never going to be footballing powerhouses until they restructure their Leagues, sort their finances out and most importantly sort out their grassroots football.
Donut Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Scotland have in fairness produced some magnificent players throughout the years given their size, and have done reasonably well at club level in europe i would say given expectations. Their football is in decline now, but dont forget celtic won a european cup too

Need to realise their size? So effectively, you're agreeing that they've over-achieved? Scotland have a bad reputation in football but for the population of the place, they really aren't too bad. How many countries of Scotland's size can brag having a club close to the size of Celtic or Rangers? Let alone two?
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Scotland have in fairness produced some magnificent players throughout the years given their size, and have done reasonably well at club level in europe i would say given expectations. Their football is in decline now, but dont forget celtic won a european cup too During my younger years the English game was full of Scottish players, some like you say were magnificent, Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, then there was Andy Gray, Wark, Macari, McQueen, Rioch, to name a few. Now it's utter rubbish how a country can stop producing decent footballers is a puzzle. Their keepers were always rubbish though.

Its all relative really, let's face it the top teams in the EPL have huge finances to buy the best players around the world if scottish clubs could do that they would have more success, its all to do with the wonga.
Dan Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 My stat about highest percentage of population attends football could be wrong as well. I forgot about Monaco...
steveherbe Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Not bored at all. The Surrey Premier League is ok.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 30 January 2014 Posted 30 January 2014 Small Crowds, Shit Standard (Apart from Celtic) not sure why it's even talked about.
J.Lisemore Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 So, Fraser Forster has 11 clean sheets in a row...
Guest MattP Posted 24 February 2014 Posted 24 February 2014 They need Rangers back before the league dies a complete death. Celtic still claiming 45k every week as well as they are counting season tickets rather than actual attendance.
