demon_dog Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 From today's Mercury. Leicester City has banned three fans from home matches for the rest of the season after fireworks were set off in the family stand during a game last month. The trio of supporters were banned from the King Power Stadium after the incident at the game against Middlesborough on January 25. The club spokesman said: “During the second half of the game, prohibited pyrotechnic items were activated in the family stand, endangering the safety of supporters in the vicinity. “After a thorough review of in-stadium surveillance and following consultation with Leicestershire Police, the Club has issued bans with immediate effect.†The bans will run up to the conclusion of the 2013/14 season and will be reviewed before the start of the 2014/15 campaign. The spokesman said: “The welfare of supporters at King Power Stadium is the club’s highest priority and we will continue to work with Leicestershire police to prevent supporter safety being compromised. “The club has a zero-tolerance approach to the use of flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics of any kind and will impose bans in any future incidents of this nature.†Earlier this season, a 23-year-old man was issued with a three-year football banning order after admitting in court to throwing a smoke grenade at or towards the playing area at King Power Stadium during the home game against Leeds United in August. The banning order prevents him from going to Premier League, Football League or international matches for three years and will have to surrender his passport before England matches played abroad during that time Read more: http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Leicester-City-fans-banned-King-Power-stadium/story-20582917-detail/story.html#ixzz2sec8i4oh

Munshi Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Do love a bit of smoke me, but there's a time and a place.
Fox92 Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Don't get the obsession with them anyway. A bit of smoke at a football match, amazing.
Bert Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 I wonder why only a club ban?Because if they weren't arrested (unsure on this) then they can't ban them from other grounds.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Because if they weren't arrested (unsure on this) then they can't ban them from other grounds. would've thought the club would've seeked to prosecute though, they got away pretty lightly imo.
Dan Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 How have three of them been banned when only one got set off?
LeicesterBran Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 I love flares. But, it is daft to set them off in the family stands. The problem in this country, is that fans cannot be trusted with flares which is a shame.
Ashley Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 How have three of them been banned when only one got set off? I know the stewards took kids into holding cells after the Boro game. One lad was banned after something mentioned on twitter which got publicsed on here(I know it was stupid thing to do and yeah if you are going to let one off keep it quiet but ratting out on your own fans is not good).
Bluetintedspecs Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 People will think twice about their pretties now!
1964FOX Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Nothing wrong with smoke bombs and flares, they are designed to be safe and even held in your hand when ignited. Problem is the people who use them in an irresponsible way who will ensure they will never be allowed lawfully into a ground. There are numerous people I know, myself included who would love to use them in a safe manner to create a colourful effect whilst celebrating.
AndWhat? Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Because if they weren't arrested (unsure on this) then they can't ban them from other grounds. Wonder why they haven't been arrested then If they have them on CCTV letting a smoke bomb off. That is against the law. Surprised the police didn't want to add to their stats to boost funding. I love flares. But, it is daft to set them off in the family stands. The problem in this country, is that fans cannot be trusted with flares which is a shame. We've got the best behaved fans in the world!

They went about it the complete wrong way. I'm not complaining at their ban but the sensationalism does my head in.

They did indeed however their profiles on Twitter are a private account so only friends can see tweets like I said it's pretty low that someone could rat out another Leicester fan just because he had a smoke bomb...

Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Singing and chanting make an atmosphere not silly little boys throwing smoke bombs/flares
Ashley Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Singing and chanting make an atmosphere not silly stewards** throwing smoke bombs/flares Edited for you.
Merging Cultures Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 It's not big or clever. I'm glad they got banned.
