Charlton (H) - SK1

As I've said before,I have recently relocated there.Contrary to what some people have said,it is a good place to move to as there are plenty of empty seats,so won't be annoying Mr an Mrs "sit on there hands".I'm loseing my voice at the moment after all games, and that's something I've not done at home games in a few years.I'm just concerned that there's not enough fans willing to do the same.

In Sk1? Are we talking about the same area of the ground?

Where is this actually happening? Like Kitchandro said, there's a big difference to under the screen and the opposite side of SK1. There's lots of seats in both but I think this could be more effective the nearer the centre of the stand you are.

When the Fosse boys were right under the screen, it was a bit hit or miss whether the rest of the Kop joined in, whereas I think if you're more central it's more likely the other standers in that area will join in. That's where I stand and there's willingness to sing but only 1 or 2 people who start chants. This would give everyone round there a push to sing more.

Never gonna get the all the kop singing for 90 minutes, there's more chance of us winning the champions league.Just be nice to get willing singers over to the corner for one game and see how it goes.We can debate till the cows come home about were to do this but this is the test area so let's all give it a go.

Personally I think this will just split the singers between the Kop and L/K, leaving both areas less noisy. Having 2 singing areas in opposite sides of the ground won't work because they never manage to sing in time with each other.

I think it's a great idea! I'm not around for this one but if it starts to work I'll more than happily sit there in future! As it is, I usually target K1!

And here you have the problem DennisNerdy (and others inc myself) see with it... and evidence of it already happening!

As much as I admire the intention this will never work because you won't be allowed to stand freely anywhere other than L/K (and there is a massive link in terms of the demographic of those who are most likely to want to stand and those most likely to want to sing). What you're doing is effectively creating another standing area like we've seen develop in N Block and we all know that the club will clamp down on N Block next season to try and crush it before it grows much more.

As much as you say you'll oblige stewards and sit down etc. eventually people will either want to stand regardless of what the stewards say or not want to be there at all.

The problem at the moment is not the number of people wanting to sing, it's where they are positioned and why they are in the areas that they are. When we moved stadium I think the club naively thought that by calling the South Stand 'The Kop' everyone from Filbert Street Kop would head there. It hasn't happened because some people want to be next to the away fans (not because they want to swear/gesticulate or any of that nonsense but because it is the best way to bounce chants back and forth - look where singing sections are at almost every other ground in the country). This is why 'N Block' has flourished; it's cheap, next to the away fans and people can stand. With SK1 as your chosen position you get one out of those three things.

As I see it, there are six possibilities for improving the atmosphere at the KP:

1) Swapping South Stand and Family Stand

2) A safe-standing area

3) Expansion of the East Stand to allow more people in L Block

4) Influx of more people into the right areas (L/K) through an initiative such as this which has the right intention, just the wrong execution

5) The club allowing N Block to co-exist with L/K

6) Unreserved seating in an area close to the away end

Of these, only option 4 is likely in the short-mid term. Options 2 and 3 would probably have the most impact on atmosphere in the longer term.

I think this will be good for a couple of games, you'll get a decent number of like-minded people in the same area and some leeway from the club until they see how it develops. But I'm hugely sceptical that it will develop into anything of note unless, once you're developed as a group, you look to re-locate to L/K.

I also hope that people don't start relocating from K/L/N as that will only serve to weaken what we already have (which I don't actually think is that bad when compared to other clubs in the country). The intention of this SK1 move should be to unite the pockets already in The Kop and casual singers elsewhere rather than taking away people from areas where something already happens.

That's fair enough. I just didn't see anywhere that stated where exactly this was going to be taking place. SK1 is quite big.

Great idea chap! was in sk3 for Watford and it wasn't the best....seems the singers are all spread out so would be great to get all of us together and see what we can do.

Yes right in the corner under the screen.

Ok I'll admit I've never stood there before but it was very, very quiet and empty up there against Watford.

This is a fair post, but we would like to make clear that we are not trying to break up L1. As you say in your final paragraph we are simply trying to unite the pockets across the remainder of the Stadium.

As for the queries regarding where we are specifically targeting, this diagram may help.

The intention is to fill the yellow area at first (well on the way), moving right as you look at the below through the purple and pink areas until you join up with the singers already positioned from around 210. We understand that this is not going to happen overnight and getting such a number for the game against Charlton is potentially an unrealistic target, however as we move towards the end of the season and into next we feel as though occupying this entire area is achievable.

Worth noting that the vast majority of this area is currently empty so there is plenty of room for people to move into.

The corner has been tested, by the Fosse Boys. Things never took off, partly because they were too segregated from other fans.

Nobody is saying the WHOLE of the Kop is going to sing for 90 minutes, but we've got a better chance of making it louder if we join onto the end of the small group that already sings in the block next to us.

Granted there are alot of empty seats, but this is why the area has been designated. As for quite that's not true it may seem it to you were ever you are,but seriously sometimes they don't pause for breath.

There was one, maybe two blokes singing non stop yes. But the rest didn't join in much, though a few were stood. In the centre of the corner it was me, the 7 other people I went with, 2 blokes to my right and then nothing for at least 10 seats either side (this is near the top).

You're right in saying the area was picked because there are empty seats. All I'm saying is, it's the empty seats among/next to the few standers in there we should try to fill up first, as an extension to the group, rather than a segregated new one. Then automatically we start with bigger numbers.

I don't know what you're facepalming at. If, as expected, the club clamps down on N block next season this has always been suggested as it's natural replacement. It's the fans in that block that will need somewhere to go when Barclay has his way.

Looking forward to this. Reckon everyone who turns up will be fully into it and up for singing for the full 90. The kind of folks willing to take a chance and be part of something rather than waiting to "see if it takes off".

Exactly what I'm hoping for.

The 60 or so lads that will be the first to move won't be the kind to not sing for the full 90.

Absolutely.

Pyro in N Block didn't particularly help their cause either.
