Union FS

Charlton (H) - SK1

I stand level with the touchline in SK1, so Union FS were just to my right.

I thought they put in a great effort and were definitely louder in the second half than the first. Numbers will grow in time.

A couple of constructive criticisms.Firstly, slow down. This isn't specific to Union FS, our fans in general. It started off being just Ring of Fire but it's creeping in to almost every song now. Bring on the Sunderland.. dies far too soon because it's being rushed. Same with a lot of other songs. When the songs are slowed down it sounds much purer and easier for others to join in with. I believe with some of the lads you've got in there, you'll be able to crack it.

Secondly, the range of songs. I think this is the perfect opportunity to try and create some songs that are going to last the test of time. I think the focus should be to move away from the generic chants we keep stealing off everyone and just adding Leicester in. I know it's a stupid comparison but if you look at United's songbook for individual players it's incredible. Pete Boyle who is mainly responsible for writing most of their chants is a genius. If you guys are serious about this, I don't think it would hurt to just try and sit down and brainstorm some tunes that could be used, more original the better. It's likely we'll be able to keep this group of players together if we go up. So specific chants about players should be the way forward. One of the loudest songs still to this day across the Kop is Iwan is a Welshman. No surprise there, it's a catchy tune and easy to remember.Anyone can clap their hands and shout Leicester to a tune, but what will unite you and gain credibility is aiming chants at players. I've suggested a few in the past, albeit a few years ago when we were first trying N Block, but will try and think of some again.

Only minor points, but ones I believe will really help you make this a long-standing thing, Good luck.

I'd have to disagree with you there, I could quite easily rattle off 15 maybe even 20 different songs that we sung on Saturday, with a nice mix of old and new.

Absolutely agree with this pal and to quote one of the lads in the group at its first meeting: "We can't make Leicester City the best football team in England, but we do have the power to have the best fans in England."

A unique songbook is of course paramount for that to happen in my view. That said, Rome wasn't built in a day. Sadly over the last few years the range of chants we sing seems to have become more and more generic. If the section had started of dozens of original chants on Saturday people would have wondered what the fvck they were on about. One of the Fosse Boys' biggest mistakes was trying to bring about a wholesale change in culture overnight, bringing in shitloads of new chants with original tunes and lyrics (not just continental rip-offs as people constantly seem to suggest).

These things take time, and hopefully people will be receptive to the idea of new and original chants as that goes omn rather than the current dire situation we have (not just Leicester, but with English fans in general) where they're just happy to rip off whatever Man United/Liverpool/Palace/Celtic were doing two years ago.

I think having a range of songs is a very good shout.

I just think for the first trial match it was better to try and stick to what people know. Having said that, there were a couple of new chants I'd never heard before, one for Wasilewski and a rather less successful one for De Laet lol

I'm sure more songs will be worked into matchdays as time goes on, but the first priority is to build up the numbers and noise. Then we can slowly introduce more.

Personally, one of the first things I'd like to do is develop a better version of WYS. It got a few decent airings on Saturday but I still feel a more inspirational version would catch on better.

One thing I've learnt from football matches is that fans don't have to sing loads of songs to be loud and respected. Leeds hardly ever sing anything other than Marching on Together. If we had our unique club anthem blasting loudly out of the Kop it would be great.

Just had a look at the local rag's picture gallery - is this SK1?  Modest beginnings in terms of numbers but it's encouraging, looks like one of the better sections of our away ends which is an excellent start:

I might add to the big ginger face population for Blackpool if I have the money after all the various away games coming up...

Both good posts. I hope mine didn't seem like I was expecting you to go through the starting XI with a new song for each player. I'm referring to moving forward and making sure this develops into what it is the capability to. I know some of the lads involved in this quite well and they thoroughly deserve this to be a resounding success because they've got the right ideas.

Its a pretty bold suggestion, i am suprised its never been said before. Could it work?

This is exactly what im suggesting yes.

By the way guys i could here you loud and clear at the game fair play :)

I generally think they are the best fans in our country, They started most chants they sing and they all get sung loud and clear

Think Man United, FC United and Liverpool will always be the best for lyrical wit and ability for me.

Not suggesting this should be copied, but in terms of originality, you have to applaud Man City fans

Great chant that.

Though we'll now have 20 different versions our fans will try and recreate for Pearson on the chants thread.

"Our owner Top, ran to Hull, in his dodgy Thai gear,

came back with our manager and Craigy ****ing Shakespeare."

For example. Let's leave it :)

Great start. Shows how much we can achieve by going from virtually nothing to what we had on Saturday. Very optimistic about how this could turn out. and really looking forward to our next home game.
