Leicesterpool Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Not the greatest performance but far from bad! We've certainly still got alot of work to do, I don't think we've got any problems in midfield its at the back and up front, we're simply not scoring enough goals and we're being found out at the back. The players that for me have already secured their place are Steven Gerrard (of course captain) Gary Cahill Leighton Baines Daniel Sturridge Adam Lallana That's it so far, one or two players had a good game tonight but still need one more game to prove it! The players on the verge Raheem Sterling Kyle Walker Andros Townsend Alex Oxlade-Chamberline
kingfox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Absolute boring shitness. Germany for the World Cup will have Mertesacker, Hummels, Howedes, Wollscheid etc... to choose from, some of which probably won't even be on the plane, we have pissing Chris Smalling. We struggle to get past Denmark at home in the cold, god help us when we face Uruguay & Italy in blistering heat. The difference between us and the likes of Spain, Brazil, Germany, was proven tonight. Denmark sat back, we saw a lot of the ball which is decent, but failed to win by a decent margin, credit to Kasper he made some good saves, but teams like Spain, Brazil, Germany would of probably scored more, created more chances and had more chances on target. England can't carve teams open, it's very boring and lacklustre.
Jimothy Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 The only way Rooney could replicate Suarez would be by acting a twat and kicking players in a mardy He right though. Why we started with Rooney down the centre and Sturridge wide is beyond me. Rooney can be effective from a deeper wide area, Sturridge can't.
ScouseFox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 The only way Rooney could replicate Suarez would be by acting a twat and kicking players in a mardy If we play Sturridge in the middle, Sterling on one side and Lallana on the other we could let Rooney do whatever he wants (where he's at his best). Or when we need to be more defensive we could swap Lallana for Wilshere and play him with Gerrard and Rooney on the left coming in behind Sturridge like Suarez does every week. He's not as good but he could do the same job just not quite as well and it would bring the best out of Sturridge, Sterling and it would mean Gerrard and Henderson would know the score and we'd genuinely be quite good I think. It's a nice theory anyway haha.
Leicesterpool Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Wayne Rooney is simply too slow for the England team! Didn't look fit tonight. Noticed all the Man U players didn't have a great night!
ScouseFox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Yeah in all fairness seen as it's cool to shout DROP ROONEY we could sack him off, play Lallana on the left, Sturridge in the middle and Sterling on the right. Gerrard, Wilshere and Hendo. We'd beat everyone.
Dan Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Hoddle is a fantastic pundit and I'd love to see him back in management. He's right about Barkley too, both him and Lallana are genuinely talented and exciting opposed to Wilshere where everybody has been consistently told he's the answer and he's rarely performed well for the national side. Hoddle speaks a hell of a lot of sense every time I hear him. Favours technical players as well. I really like Lallana. My type of player. Box of tricks.
Dan Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Yeah in all fairness seen as it's cool to shout DROP ROONEY we could sack him off, play Lallana on the left, Sturridge in the middle and Sterling on the right. Gerrard, Wilshere and Hendo. We'd beat everyone. I genuinely don't see how that would be any worse. Rooney has too many games where he's just doing nothing. He's been made to feel undroppable and complacency has crept in as a result. We looked twice as good when he went off. I was disappointed in Henderson tonight, mind.
kingfox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Wayne Rooney is massively overrated, World Class he is shit. Sterling, Lallana & Sturridge are the best English players atm, the rest are average or just shit.

I forgot he even played! he hardly touched the ball (Henderson). I think that's the third game on the trott for Rooney that he's been poor for England. Wiltshire had another stinker. Sterling impressed me tonight!

Yet we've beaten Spain and Germany in friendlies, as well as drawing in Brazil, so what we can deduce is that, basically, other teams are better than us in tournaments.

Donut Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 I hear a lot of praise for Jack Wilshere, people talking him up. I dont see it, im sorry. What does he bring? at least in an England shirt? Give me Lallana any day. He upped the performance today, created the goal too.

After watching him tonight I'm starting to doubt Hodgson will take him, players like Barkley are starting to breathe down his neck in that position.
kingfox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Yet we've beaten Spain and Germany in friendlies, as well as drawing in Brazil, so what we can deduce is that, basically, other teams are better than us in tournaments. Weird isn't it. But on many occasions over past years, even in Friendly's, England's play has been very boring and uninspiring. If I recall the Spain game, the defence deserved a lot of credit that night, we sat back and withstood pressure, if that was on another night, we may of got beat comfortably. We don't have the players, tonight was poor, and when we struggle to carve the likes of Denmark open, how do you think we'll fair when it comes to the World Cup in much worse conditions, scary thought in my opinion.

Soar Fox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Yeah in all fairness seen as it's cool to shout DROP ROONEY we could sack him off, play Lallana on the left, Sturridge in the middle and Sterling on the right. ScouseFox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Henderson was crap Sterling wasn't as good as everyone is making out. But he's been the best English midfielder playing football for the past 18 months and Sterling is easily our best winger at the moment and both are playing in that system for a Liverpool team with Sturridge and Gerrard that are genuinely challenging to win the league. As opposed to playing Man United's 1 goal a season reserve striker on the wing or something equally as stupid.
Leicesterpool Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 To be honest you have to give credit to Brendan Rodgers, as he's certainly got the best out of the england players there! Rodgers to replace Hodgson after the world cup
ScouseFox Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 That sounds boss. More boss Liverpool players in the team the better, that midfield 3 would boss most games. Basically that's the plan. We should take Flanagan too. League and World Cup double for Liverpool.
PAULCFC Posted 5 March 2014 Posted 5 March 2014 Too slow and predictable for me.We will be lucky to get out of the group on that showing.
Foxhateram Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 We played alright in patches, when we sped the pace of the game up (rarely tonight) we looked dangerous. I would take friendlies with a pinch of salt, no one plays full pace, everyone pulls out of 50/50''s and as a result you get a shite game. If we play like we did in patches tonight all the way through matches, then I think we will do ok in the summer. Major thing is to remember though we are rebuilding our side still, much like Germany have had to do over the last few years. At one point they were awful! We're plodding along at half pace I just hope we step it up a gear. Only area I don't feel we have good enough options is CB. Smalling worries me and who else is their? We need a really experienced head back there to lead the line.
Langston Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 I'll defend Rooney until the tide comes in, I think he's fantastic - but questions have to be asked about his performances for the national team now. Looks completely lost in Roy's system and Sturridge is by far our best hope of goals in Brazil so he simply has to play in his natural position.
Leicesterpool Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 I think the only reason why Hodgson picks Rooney is purely down to the fact we've got limited choice in strikers! yet Rodriguez whose scored the same amount as Rooney couldn't even get on the pitch. I think it's time to look at starting Rodriguez and Lambert up front.

Or maybe Sturridge, the top english goalscorer this season instead of shunting him out wide to accommodate Rooney most of the match.
