kingcarr21 Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Cristiano Ronaldo has shown his soft side by offering to pay for the operation of a 10 month old baby born with a neurological disorder.Erik Ortiz Cruz suffers up to 30 epileptic fits a day and surgery is the only solution to his condition. The boy's family have been unable to meet massive hospital bills with each test carried out costing around £5,020 (6,000 euros) and surgery likely to run to £50,240 (60,000 euros). Incredible: Cristiano Ronaldo has paid over £50,000 for the operation for 10-month old Erik Ortiz Cruz Money to a good cause: Erik Ortiz Cruz and his mother in hospital together Care: Erik was born with a neurological disorder and he desperately needed the operation So big-hearted Ronaldo, touched by the boy’s local community’s attempts to raise the money themselves, has stepped in to fund the life changing medical care. The player was at first asked to donate boots and a shirt to a fund-raising auction but decided to go the extra mile and foot the bill. Earlier in the year Ronaldo celebrated his Ballon D’Or win with children suffering from Leukaemia keeping a promise made on Spanish radio last year. Ronaldo met the children on radio Cope show Partido de la 12 in November and said if he won he would celebrate with them. Following the celebrations he spoke to one of the children - who will have an operation this month - and told the youngster: 'Don't worry I have not forgotten'. Donating: The Portuguese star is well known for helping charitable causes Success: Erik is just 10 months old but may now get all the treatment he needs Promise: Ronaldo said that he would celebrate with children who have Leukaemia if he won the Ballon d'Or Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2579466/Cristiano-Ronaldo-astonishing-gesture-pays-operation-10-month-old-baby.html#ixzz2vvnprshtFollow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook
kingcarr21 Posted 14 March 2014 Author Posted 14 March 2014 Great gesture from Ronaldo. Nice to see someone who earns the money he does give a bit back
MrSpaM Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 With the ammount they get paid, footballers ought to be doing more stuff like this for the local community.
glenny_fox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Great gesture, it's always nice to see that footballers do have a heart (even Ronaldo). Like others have said with the amount they earn, they should give some back to the less fortunate.
ScouseFox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 fair play. sure we'll get the "and so he should he earns xxx a day!!" but it's still his money and he can do what he likes with it. £52k overall is probably one hell of a holiday he coulda had next summer. and probably still will just with his next 52k.
Alf Bentley Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Outstanding footballer, but has often come across as a narcissist in the past, so this shows him in a much better light. Best example of such conduct may have been Niall Quinn, when he gave all the proceeds (£1m) of his testimonial to charity: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/2429199/Charity-to-benefit-from-Quinns-testimonial.html Quinn comes across as a genuine, humble bloke in that article. Decent analyst/commentator, too.
Solihullfox Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 A friend of mine, who is Irish, is both mates with Niall and involved in finance advice for him. He describes him as a top top man and a real gent, and a good guy to have a few pints with !
Fox92 Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Ronaldo is a good professional, and from what I've read, a nice guy. I hate it when people say "oh he's this and that". He's never in the media for anything bad, he just plays then stays on the low with his family. How it should be. I've got Scholes' book and he basically says that Ronaldo is such as good person and good professional. Again, it's on the media which influences people. If they say "he's a ****", then certain people choose to believe it. It's a shame.
Danizen Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Not the first time he's gone above and beyond. He auctioned off one of his Golden Shoe awards and donated the proceeds to a charity that re-homes Palestinian children made homeless by the conflict. And from what he's said, it's a cause very close to his heart.
Stadt Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Fantastic player and person, it's a shame he's a bit of a dick on the pitch though. Probably my favourite player.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 Fantastic player is Cristiano and a really top thing to do.
purpleronnie Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 I would hope most obscenely rich people do similiar things, but choose not to announce it. Not sure I could sleep very well earning millions and not doing things like this for people who are so in need.
