Bettsj2 Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 I think its an iphone4 but cant be sure. Anyway I charged it and turned it on in case the owner called but they havent. Reported it to the local cops and they said if nobody reports it in 3 months its mine to keep. Anyone know if I can actually do anything with it or is it useless?
Rincewind Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 Are there any numbers in the ontat list you an call? Mother Father? Work?
Smudge Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 A common ID in the contact list is ICE (in case of emergency). I have that for my home phone and address on my mobile

Jimothy Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 Any picture on the screen when you turn it on? People often have partners or kids as there screen picture. Maybe you could take a pic of that pic and share around here and on twitter and Facebook, see if people know them.
MPH Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 Never heard of that before It's pretty common over here too. There's a pile up, unconscious man, paramedics pick up his phone see an 'ICE' number and know exactly who to call...
AndWhat? Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 It's pretty common over here too. There's a pile up, unconscious man, paramedics pick up his phone see an 'ICE' number and know exactly who to call... will be useless if you have a passcode on your iPhone, which I imagine 90% of iPhone users do.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 I found one on the train last year on the way home after a sat afternoon drink, rang the number and it was a Japanese student, imagine the conversation me drunk, them speaking little English, anyway she got her phone back and I felt so good about how honest I had been. An all round great human being I would of been stuffed if the phone needed a passcode though.
Smudge Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 Never heard of that before Ah maybe it's a US thing.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 The police and ambulance service know a way of getting into iPhones without knowing the code. My brother is a copper and got into my phone in about 3 seconds - I changed the code and he did it again straight away! Won't tell me it though.
Zingari Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 Where'd you find it? In the window of the phones4u shop

Danno Posted 23 March 2014 Posted 23 March 2014 If you've got a usb cable for it you can factory reset it so you no longer need a password.

Paramedics pick up the phone and can't get past the pass code The police and ambulance service know a way of getting into iPhones without knowing the code. danny. Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 The police and ambulance service know a way of getting into iPhones without knowing the code. My brother is a copper and got into my phone in about 3 seconds - I changed the code and he did it again straight away! Won't tell me it though. Good bit of fiction there. Maybe a small step towards a crime novella?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 Well - my brother can get into them. God knows how but there is definately a way into them.
danny. Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 There are many possibilities 1) You told him the code 2) Someone else told him the code 3) You wrote down the code and he read it 4) He guessed the code (it was i.e. 1234) 5) You made this up
danny. Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 If you do put pen to paper and start a crime short short or novella, your brother unlocking an iPhone and saving the day would be a good deus ex machina.
danny. Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 Think how much time could be saved if they just gave all the phones to your brother, the backlog could be cleared overnight! http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/05/apple-will-reportedly-unlock-your-iphone-for-police-but-theres-a-wait-list/
StanSP Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 will be useless if you have a passcode on your iPhone, which I imagine 90% of iPhone users do. Paramedics pick up the phone and can't get past the pass code No they don't They can. Depends what phone you have though. On my Samsung S3, before unlocking, you can press 'emergency call' and there's a button on the bottom right of the keypad - hold on to that and it loads up your ICE contacts. So yes, you can get through to them without a pass code. Just not all the contacts.
Rincewind Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 Isn't there a code you put in to unlock a phone when you change providers?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 24 March 2014 Posted 24 March 2014 Isn't there a code you put in to unlock a phone when you change providers? Yes but that's a slightly different thing. I saw my brother do what he did - he did not know my code - I even changed it and he did it again so some how - by hook or by crook he got into it.
