Jimothy Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/27280549 RIP. 30 is certainly no age to die. Might not have been the greatest player, but as a former top 50 player she reached a decent standard.
Bryn Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 **** this, it makes me so angry. **** you cancer. What horrible news.
Des. Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Terrible news. 30 years old, no age to die. RIPMy mum was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas, I know how hard it is to see someone go through this illness.
Mack Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 I'm not usually a big one for the whole RIP thing but this one is just so sad. I can remember seeing her play at Wimbledon and win or lose she was always a fighter and continued her career despite her illness problems.
Jon the Hat Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 RIP Elena. Very sad day - the epitome of fight against the odds that she had a pro career at all.
Webbo Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 30 is no age at all. I think her dad played football for the USSR.
Jimothy Posted 5 May 2014 Author Posted 5 May 2014 30 is no age at all. I think her dad played football for the USSR. Yeah, he played for Ipswich then a couple of Scottish clubs, that's how she ended up being brought up here.
reynard Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 RIP Elena. Very sad day - the epitome of fight against the odds that she had a pro career at all. Can't say better than this really.
leicsmac Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 Very, very sad. As Jon said, it's amazing she forged a pro career at all considering what she was also fighting. Hope the event at Queens this year raises awareness and money for her charity.
Lionator Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 Just seen a tweet saying that since London 2012, she is the 10th competing athlete to die, staggering statistic. RIP.
Haydos Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 Just seen a piece on her on SSN, didn't realise she had an ongoing liver condition and had played with it for most of her career. Sad news for the tennis community.
LeicesterBran Posted 5 May 2014 Posted 5 May 2014 I'm really shocked to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Cancer is a horrible disease which I hope will be cured.
Guest MattP Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Like others I didn't even know she had these problems. Terrible thing to happen to someone so young. Seemed a nice girl and really cares about the sport.
Fox92 Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 I really hope one day we find a cure for cancer. Well I hope we find a cure for every illness, especially having watched both my Grandad's die from two different diseases. But it will never happen. I could never see the government allowing such medicines to be available.
