Finnegan Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 You learn something new everyday and today I've learnt that that Premier League has been the epicentre of shit right backs for the last 20 odd years. Mate, Chris Gunter? Sam Ricketts? Mark Delaney? Class, class, class.
Finnegan Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Shame on you for forgetting Jazz Richards. That's not funny, I'm actually hoping Richards will turn out decent. Swansea are leading the way for full backs at the moment.
Alexikokopops Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 You learn something new everyday and today I've learnt that that Premier League has been the epicentre of shit right backs for the last 20 odd years. On my hunt for a better one I found this list of right backs from the team of the year. It's not exactly inspiring. 2012–13 Pablo Zabaleta (Man City) 2011–12 Kyle Walker (Tottenham) 2010–11 Bacary Sagna (Arsenal) 2009–10 Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea) 2008–09 Glen Johnson (Portsmouth) 2007–08 Bacary Sagna (Arsenal) 2006–07 Gary Neville (Man Utd) 2005–06 Pascal Chimbonda (Wigan) 2004–05 Gary Neville (Man Utd) 2003–04 Lauren (Arsenal) 2002–03 Stephen Carr (Tottenham) 2001–02 Steve Finnan (Fulham) 2000–01 Stephen Carr (Tottenham) 1999–00 Gary Kelly (Leeds) 1998–99 Gary Neville (Man Utd) 1997–98 Gary Neville (Man Utd) 1996–97 Gary Neville (Man Utd) 1995–96 Gary Neville (Man Utd) 1994–95 Rob Jones (Liverpool) 1993–94 Gary Kelly (Leeds) 1992–93 David Bardsley (QPR)

Guest MattP Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Lauren, there you go. I actually thought he was the weak link of the invincibles, the signing of Eboue certainly enchanced his legacy though.
Stadt Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 As shown by my ignorance about Ronaldo Lima (I'm still sorry ok) I can only really remember football from 2008 onwards! Hart Neville Terry Ferdinand Baines(maybe Cole) Walcott Gerrard Lampard A.Johnson (I know) Rooney Bent That side certainly isn't the best. Cech Zabaleta Kompany Vidic Evra Ronaldo Toure Silva Bale(foreign bastard) Drogba Suarez
Guest MattP Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 You get a +1 from me just for 'Bale(foreign bastard)'.
kingfox Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Seaman Neville - Adams - Terry - Cole Beckham - Scholes - Gerrard - Lampard - Owen Shearer Schmeichel Ivanovic - Desailly - Stam - Irwin Ronaldo - Vieira - Toure - Giggs Zola - Henry
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 i assume nobody has put giggs in because they aren't sure which team he classes as, not because they don't think he's good enough...? Giggs could be back-up to Bale.
Soar Fox Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Giggs could be back-up to Bale. Ryan Giggs PFA Team of the Year (6): 1992–93, 1997–98, 2000–01, 2001–02, 2006–07, 2008–09 Gareth Bale PFA Team of the Year: 2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13
Fox92 Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 i assume nobody has put giggs in because they aren't sure which team he classes as, not because they don't think he's good enough...? Same applies to Keane as well. He'd probably get in my all time team, but in this instance it was just English players.

Guest ttfn Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 Roy Keane? Personally can understand why. I rate Vieira, Toure, Gerrard & Scholes ahead of him . Vieira shat his pants whenever he faced Keane. Keane had absolutely everything - he was the complete central midfielder. Nobody has even come close to replicating his all round game since (arguably because they haven't had to as the game has moved on).
Guest ttfn Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 They have failed to replace Keane. World football has failed to replace Keane, which probably explains why United have. Great passer, long and short. Scored a fair amount of goals and specialised in vital ones. Ferocious but brilliant tackler. Outstanding physicality and perhaps the greatest on-pitch leader of the last 20 years.
ScouseFox Posted 9 May 2014 Posted 9 May 2014 gonna be pretty much post '99 cos that's when i remember english: same as everyone else's. foreign: cech lauren - hyypia - carvalho - ferreira keane - vieira robben - pires - ronaldo henry left and right backs from foreign countries either aren't very good or never moved to england. henry is the best player to play in this league imo. giggs should be in it but i don't really like him, i'm sure he'll cope

More to do with him being a fvcking nutter than a better footballer. Viera had 'absolutely everything'.
