Geoff Peters. I swear he used to work as a DJ at Walkabout with the name of DJ W*nker! And now he's working for TalkSport. Doing well for himself there.

I am unsure whether you are taking the piss there.

to the thick twats on this thread it would have been andrew neville who would have agreed st ledgers wages not sven just like the other signings that season so get that into your ****ing heads . do you lot think nigel pearson tells players who he signs the amount of money they will be on

Yes, because managers have no say in the wage they're willing to offer

You'd perhaps want to work on not being a thick twat yourself before levelling that gun at others.

I do think this is a little more middle ground than it used to be.

Clough signed Francis and the storey goes the chairman did not even know about it till the deal was signed.

Sorry in this day and age the money men have more of the say.

We over spent under Sven but some one had to ok that spending unless you claim Sven signed the cheques.

Most managers will spend the budget.

But the money men are involved now from the start sven was given an open cheque book.

It is as much the owners fault if not more so than Sven's.

In any business you would be mad to leave a manager an open cheque book with no restraints.

Our owners did this infact the CEO should have taken the blame and walked they did not put any restrictions in place.

Sven did what he thought was right for the club end of.

Unless some one thinks he was having a little himself. Not my feelings just a thought as to why some blame him so much.

Sven did spend it but he can not have had a budget so blame the board not him.

Well yes, Neville and the owners messed up by signing the deals off, but buzzer_b was claiming that sven wasn't responsible - which just isn't the case, Sven cocked up by being willing to have such high earners, and the owners cocked up by letting that happen. That summer was a mess from start to finish, but trying to pass the buck and absolve sven of blame is absurd.

Not passing any buck but why don't you blame the tea lady for putting too much sugar in sven's tea sending him hypo.

The end of the day the club was run slack.

It is no longer a game yet so many come into it and think it is.

Companies I have worked for local management had budgets and a top figuer they could spend without getting it signed off from above.

That was to protect the company.

Give 90% of people an open cheque book they will spend it.

I don't for one minute think Sven spent that money thinking lol lol fvck LCFC I don't care.

He spent it with best intentions however wrong they were.

Not passing any Buck just wish them that totally blame sven would look at the other side too.

If it was your money and your club would you be so hands off and offer an open cheque book?

I also think it is funny that fans moan and blame Sven 100% would you run a business that way?

Well no, but do you honestly believe that Sven had nothing to do with the massive wages we gave out while he was here?

No, I wouldn't offer an open chequebook, and the owners need to shoulder some of the blame, but Sven has got to take some of the blame for the wages given. It was a collective cock-up, and putting all the blame onto Neville and the owners is ridiculous.

Are you bleating again..?

As far as I know, Sven identifed targets, Neville sorted out contracts.

I use to make the error you are doing. The money didnt come from Sven's own pocket you know.

Our FoxesTalk friend Arry gets this spot on. He is NOT party to what players earn, the contracts they sign and all the to-ing and fro-ing that goes on. He is clear that times have changed. If anyone wants to read, rather than just again assume, he identifies his targets (whether good or bad, right or wrong) then THE CLUB sign them.

Funny how most people used this in defence of Sven, but once again, not of Redknapp????

Regarding Gally, Sven's error, it would seem, was in even stating he wanted to keep him. That was the first mistake.

Sort of a shame - could have been a decent member of the squad if he could stay fit, but that if is far too big based on the last 3 seasons. Not worth the risk, particularly on the stupid wages Sven would have given him.

What the feck are talking about? Sven had nothing to do with the wage structure, only the players he wanted, like Kasper and Nuge, who are key now.

Pissed off with planks like you, who blame managers for players wages. So Sven wouldn't have given anyone "stupid wages".  :frusty:

Are you saying the manager has no influence on what the wage structure is at all? Not every chairman in football will know the going rate for players, the manager must provide some information to them.

Not every Chairman will make all the deals. Andrew Neville wasn't the Chairman was he?

They have bods employed to negotiate contracts. Would you expect the managers to really know what potential signings are earning and what they wish to earn?

I presume they have a say in setting out a rough wage structure but then I guess they leave those employed to contract negotiate, to do so?

Of course you would, that's why Pearson won't go for Gareth Barry, Rio Ferdinand because, although they are free, the wages would be far too high for us. Ok, the chairman might not always make the deals but the manager will start the process.

Surely potential signings are based on the manager's knowledge of the expected transfer fee and wages to be paid?

So, you really believe that Sven had no say in the wages being paid? They may not be there to hammer out the nitty-gritty (although I'd expect them to in the manager model, rather than the head coach model), but they certainly have a say in how much the player will be offered. They'll prioritise signings and set a limit based on that; be it telling the DoF that this player is the big one and to pull out all the stops, or saying that this player will mostly be back-up so to cap any offer at £Xk.

I honestly don't get how this is so hard to understand, it's like people think the manager wakes up one morning and finds out that the board have just posted a new player through his letter box without ever knowing what was happening.

You always think its everyone else who doesn't understand ever thought it might actually be you who doesn't understand?

But why does Nige decide to pull the plug on certain players? We wanted Billy Sharp but he wanted too much money, we pulled out of the deal because Nige came out and said his wages were unreasonable. On the other hand, I bet Sven would have been like "oh, carry on until they flippin' sign I want this player despite having 9 other players for the same position"

I think Nigel still plays a role - why do you think his signings are not paid as much as Sven's signings, explain that one as well?

The manager is the manager. If anything goes wrong, it's his fault. That's how it works. I have to laugh when I get told "but Sven wasn't involved", yet if it's a Pearson signing it's "yeah, he's a bad signing what we got him for".

That last line is 100% BOLLOCKS!

No, because I'm right here. Managers clearly have a say in signing players.

i would not even bother with the  doctor on this topic he must be right when most of us disagree with him but

my god what are you on of course the managers have a say on signing players but they dont decide how much a player is paid. you do realise this is not football manager  2014
