Hmm try manually clearing Google Chrome history and cookies etc ?

It worked, but it still took 5 minutes to get past that point.

Thanks Dan.

Btw, I noticed from the photo you uploaded, tick every box under 'Advanced' except for 'Wipe Free Space' and also go Options > Advanced and untick 'Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours' :)

You know to clean the inside of the base unit, what is recommended? I'm going to do it soon to get rid of dust and dirt but I'm not sure what to use.

Compressed air in a can? I know you can buy that, but is it to powerfull?

That should work just fine!

So, I want to upgrade my CPU. Never done this before, bit scared because of the potential consequences.

My motherboard is MS-7184. I currently have a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ installed. However, I want (and the Compaq website says the motherboard can support) a AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor. Obviously this is a dual core processor, and if I buy the cheaper one at 3800+ (2.0ghz), thats the same as my current CPU (2.0ghz).

A) Will I see the difference? Single core 2.0ghz to dual core 2.0ghz?

B) Will I need a BIOS update or not because the motherboard can support the CPU?

C) Do I need a new PSU?

Does that really work? Wouldn't it be to powerful?

Use compressed air in a can. Do not use a Hoover the static could destroy your motherboard!

I keep sending an e-mail and it keeps not sending due to security reasons.

Its annoying because I'm applying for a job but something called 'postmaster' keeps referring the e-mail back, so I cannot apply.

Any help would be grateful.

Sounds like a filter on their end? Maybe.

I got given a second hand computer for daughter to use, the problem is there is a password needed when started up and no one can remember what it is. Is there anyway round this?

google it, you can download an ISO file you burn to a CD, you then boot off that and it resets the password - amazing security!

Help please, Im generally pretty careful about the comp and antivirus/malware etc, however i do cvisit the occasional dodgy site bit torrents etc.

My volume icon has disapeared, ive gone into the icons thingo but it wont let me turn it back on.. also noticed that advanced system care is now jamming...any thoughts please?

also it will not do a system restore... it just sits there :(

Further edit, trying to run a scan with microsoft essentials, it jams at c\windows\system32\wdmaud.drv

OK so some rebooting...unplugging etc and everything is back, scanning now to see if anything pops up, but that was weird, It seems that Advanced system care was causing a problem, or at least the monitoring thing was.. ive removed them..so we shall see. As i say im usually pretty careful. Is there any online plce to scan to..just for added protection

Anybody run memtest+ before?

I downloaded it onto a DVD/R and gone into bios and selected 'boot from CD drive', but it just loads up my operating system (like normal boot up) instead of listening to my instructions and booting from the optical drive.

Why is what I ask? I've burned the memtest+ ISO file on the DVD/R disc with a special programme I downloaded and everyting but nothing. Only wanted to check my memory because I've been having freezing problems!

Is it because I am using a DVD/R instead of a normal CD?

The DVD / CD thing won't be the issue. I'd place a small bet on your burning the ISO. If you open the DVD contents in Windows Explorer, do you see a .ISO file or some actual files?

Edit: on the off-chance I don't see your reply, and it happens that I'm right (yay!) then download "imgburn" and use that to burn the ISO to a CD or DVD.

When I open the file up the ISO file is just there, no other files when I think they should be!?

I will use imgburn then, thanks

This reply worked, I have now tested my memory which is not faulty - good!

Thanks for that anyway,

My hard drive now makes like a straining noise for some reason. Is it dying? I think it is, and I'll buy a new one when I get some money, but I just want a second opinion.

yes probably - do a SMART check on the drive - google "Smart check software" or similar, it you should be able to find a free program, i.e.

Windows: http://sourceforge.net/projects/smartmontools/files/smartmontools/5.41/smartmontools-5.41-1.win32-setup.exe/download
