I'm sorry Oz I don't quite understand the point you are making, however, you can restore by using F8 on startup or with your install disk I believe. There are some similar problems here, which seem to have been resolved.

I'm sure you have done this but just in case you haven't, cut and paste the error message and Google it and see what others are doing. I'm so glad I moved to a Mac.

Good luck!

I've asked before but does anyone know why my Flash player keeps messing up? I'm fed up with not being able to watch videos properly.

If I try to watch a Youtube video the sound will play perfectly and continuously but the picture will keep stopping and starting (it catches up the sound and then stops again).

I've done everything I can think of and if I can't sort it out then I'm gonna have to reinstall Windows and I don't really want to do that yet.

Have you tried reinstalling Flash?

Have you tried it in a different browser?

Have you got the latest version of Flash?

Is it all videos or just YouTube?

I've reinstalled Flash using the Flash uninstaller and installed it again (normally reinstall by going to Youtube and clicking the plug-in thing on a video because it doesn't add the McAfee crap that way). I've done this about 100 times because if I do that videos will work again for 15 mins up to an hour-ish, but then it's back to not working.

Not tried a different browser so I'll try that soon.

And it happens on any video online not just Youtube. It's been happening for about 4 months now I think.

Ok see if it is the same in a different browser.

I've just tried it and the same thing happens in other browsers.

I tried a Malwarebytes scan in safe mode about 2 weeks ago and it found 1 thing but deleted it and the problem continued so I'm not sure what is going on.

I was thinking of trying Combofix and something called rKill I think but I'm not sure if i'll make things worse.

Tried Hitman Pro?

I've just tried that but it didn't find anything apart from tracking cookies.

I'm starting to think the only thing to fix it is to reinstall Windows.

My internet connection sucks.

Before I get into it, here are what I'm using:

-Optimum Online cable broadband for my ISP

-Motorola SURFboard digital voice model SBV5222

-Netgear 54 Mbps wireless router

-Belkin USB Wireless 802.11g/54 Mbps adapter

-Windows XP

My network connection is quite unreliable. Often, I've got to repair the connection via XP, but even more often than that, I've got to unplug the router and reset the connection--We're talking several times a day here.

Even when it's running, I'm constantly getting pop-up messages from the Windows taskbar tray saying that the connection is either disconnected or reconnected. Even more confusing for me is that my wireless network connection seems to be split into two connections on Windows (Wireless Connection 4 and Wireless Connection 8--don't ask why those numbers, I don't know).

Wireless G isn't the greatest speed for broadband but it's definitely more than fine enough for me. I know I could probably use better hardware and a new OS, but still; even with what I have, my wireless network connection still shouldn't die all of the time.

Does anybody have any advice on what I can to to fix my network problems, or is there any more info you need?

Please/thank you!

Hi

Just got a new laptop, I am considering to download Ccleaner and Malware Bytes to protect my laptop-however I would like to check whether the software that I mentiioned are a good choice and won't interfere with my anti-virus protection?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials but I am certian there are better options in the market so which do you recommend and is it possible to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials considering it is a microsoft software and may be a built in software with Windows 7?

Ok - I've recently had the Antivirus Virus attack my computer, and after a lot of safe mode and using various cleaning programmes such as SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials I believe I've got rid of the beggar (touch wood) BUT...

When following some instructions at the start of this process it advised me to turn off the Proxy Server settings in Internet Options.

I've then naturally gone to turn the Proxy Settings back on after cleaning my computer because I assumed that was how it was before all the trouble started but webpages won't lood when I do that with Firefox citing Proxy Server Connection Issues.

So my question is whether I should be using a Proxy Server or not as standard - and if I should, what is it Firefox not liking when I switch it on?

I am researching about the temporary internet files and how to delete them but I want to know the consquences of deleting them, I know they allow the internet pages to be loaded faster but I am worried that it will clog up the memory on my laptop and making it slower?

So to delete or to keep or to selectively delete?

If you don't know then you should definitely have it turned off. Turned off is default so unless you turned it on, and then you'd know the answer to your question, leave it off.

Clearing the temporary internet files is part of maintaining your computer, so it's ok to do that. You can download a good maintenance program for free, CCleaner:thumbup:

Hello foxestalk IT experts!

Hopefully a straightforward one; I have an Acer Aspire 5742 laptop and wanted to know if it will support dual monitor & if so how I go about it?

Have had a google to no avail, it appears to a 15 pin plug on the side that has a picture that could be a monitor on it, and it have W7 Premium if that makes a difference.

I have an old monitor at my parents, is it simply a case of using cabling it in & then setting up the properties with a right click, or am I being optimistic?

Thanks

Ive got similar laptop. Either use HDMI cable or the VGA on the side. Very easy to set up on display properties.

Anyone know much about mp3 files? I bought a batch from Amazon recently, and although they play just fine in Windows Media Player and on my trusty Sansa Mp3 player, the car stereo refused to read them from the latter and now I've just discovered that Nero won't recognise them either. What the Dickens is going on?

Never had this issue with any Mp3s, including those bought from Amazon
