Haydos Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Anyone got any ideas/experience for cheap last minute flights? Mates are flying to Amsterdam on Tuesday, returning Thursday and I can take some time off work if I need to. Is it worth ringing any airlines on the day (or any other tricks)? Flights at the moment from Manchester and the like seem to be about £200 for the round trip.
MPH Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 I have always found it more expensive the later I have booked. Especially for short flights and the budget airlines...
Bluefoxtim Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 £200 return to Amsterdam????? I booked in advanced from Luton and it was £60 return! Can't imagine prices would increase that much. Look for fights midday as opposed to first thing in the morning.
Webbo Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 I was told by a travel agent that for flights it's always cheaper to book in advance.

Look for fights midday as opposed to first thing in the morning. All of them seem to be at about 10 in the morning returning. Outbound ones are early which is fine but return ones are morning, anything other than is £200+ Lame. They're going to be doing magic mushrooms and going to the zoo. I want to do that. Might just front up.

ScouseFox Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 I'm going next month and I think it's costing like 25 quid for my flight. I was gonna suggest train/bus but might be a bit heavy if all your mates are hopping on an hour flight together and you're spending forever on a shitty little bus.
Merging Cultures Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Birmingham seems to have better deals on flights.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Have you checked Skyscanner, I don't know where you're willing to fly from but you can check everywhere really easily on there by typing UK as departure

I'm only gonna be going for 1.5/2 days. I don't particularly wanna spend most of that on a train No biggy, if I can't get I'll grab something else European soon.
Bayfox Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 I was told by a travel agent that for flights it's always cheaper to book in advance. This is correct. Early doors they need bums on seats. The closer they get to filling the plane the more they can get for that seat due to supply and demand at short notice.
mozartfox Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 My wife works for an airline and for sure on short haul routes the later you book the more expensive itbecomes. For example, I am paying euros 531 (one way/economy) from Vienna to London on June 11th booked last Tuesday)! On the other hand I just booked a return flight to Bangkok in November and this cost euros 2161 in Business Class. UKP200 at short notice is a good fare take it. Buy the way 40% of this price is probably Tax!
katieakita Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Skyscanner has plenty of offers cheaper than £200 but depends where you fly from and on a short break late night outward and early morning departure leaves little time for enjoying the tulips and art
ElusiveEd Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 If you want to fly to Amsterdam book with Ryanair. They will take you to a remote part of Poland then you can take a flight to get you to where you actually want to go.
lavrentis Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Think I might be right in saying that booking flights alone late is expensive however you can get certian holiday deals/packages really cheap if you book later.
MooseBreath Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 I think it depends on the route and specifically how much it is used by people on business, who will pay top dollar at short notice. On holiday only routes you might be able to get a good deal last minute, but not much chance for Amsterdam
