Jace Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 Where does blue appear in the Italian flag? White and navy looks much better than white and red anyway And the white and navy is more traditional for us too white and red looks more like Poland than England.
Jordan Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 I've never been able to find a definitive reason as to why England wear white with blue shorts. My best guess is that white and navy blue appear to be the original colors of the Football Association, and its national team adopted those colors. The original FA logo is a white shield with a navy blue border, with three navy blue lions on it, and a crown on top of it (the red Tudor roses we're all familiar with weren't added to England/the FA's badge until it was redesigned in 1949).
Grandad. Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 White shirt, navy shorts and white socks. Pissing red shorts? No thanks.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Serious question...why do we have blue in our home kit? See Jordan reply, our association crest features navy prominently. Should ALWAYS play in red with white shorts..White & blue??..where the he'll does blue appear in the flag of St George? Man, I ****ing love that famous orange flag of the Netherlands, don't you?
Ricey Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Did I hear right that FIFA have ruled that all teams should have the same colour shirts and shorts for the WC? They have strongly encouraged teams to have single coloured kits, hence why Italy will wear all blue, Germany all white, Spain all red etc. Apparently it's to aid referees (?) and to improve HD TV pictures (????). More confusingly, they've told England that they can't wear red against Uruguay because the referee is scheduled to wear red (??????). How long before they insist that all kits have FIFA sponsorship on them?
RonnieTodger Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Red is our away kit so no. It would help if they actually bothered designing the kits. Of course a plain white shirt is going to look crap. We should be white with navy shorts, that is what England colours are. We used to have lovely home kits - see Italia 90, Spain 82, Euro 96, Euro 2004, France 98, Euro 92 etc. The problem is not that red is better than white as such it's that we have crap kits now. Spot on. Our 2010 shirt had great potential but was ruined with those shitty White shorts. Red would just make us look like Poland. I'd rather have Sky Blue shorts like 86 than Red. EDIT: Beaten to it.
stripeyfox Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 The blue may originate from the colours of the Union Jack of course. Yes, yes I know it's England and the flag is the St Georges Cross, but in football that's a relatively recent adoption. Even as recently as the 1990 World Cup, you can see the stadiums where England played adorned with Union Jacks (yes I know it's the Union Flag), rather than the cross of St George. In Spain 82, we had red, white and blue shirts and the official song included the line "hear the roar... of the red, white and blue". It is just possible that the early decision makers on kit colours didn't have a fricking clue about blue not featuring on the England flag?
Charnwood Norris Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 I like the 2006 Kit. Euro 2012 was nice as well - red decals, no blue.
Grandad. Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 1998, 2006 and 2013 are my favourites. The Euro 2012 one was the worst one of all for me, I had to get the away one.
Samilktray Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Its only when you look back at some of the England kits over the last 10 or so years you realise how bad they were.
Stadt Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 I think reactions to recent kits have been over the top, whilst most of them aren't the most inspiring they aren't exactly monstrosities.
lgfualol Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 There has been 2 reversible England shirts from my memory Ergh I always used to get a rash on my nipple from that one
Grandad. Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Ergh I always used to get a rash on my nipple from that one Same! I used to get them from both the white and red shirts in 2002, think it was because I used to go and play football all day long through the summer and sweat made it rub! Beckham 7 and Gerrard 4 (even though he didn't go to the World Cup), I was ahead of the game!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 2006 was awesome. I'd love to have a kit like that again.
