I was just going to say it's a bit disappointing to hear posters on here talking about how good looking a player is ( never crossed our minds in my day ) when along comes John to bring some gravitas to the situation. :D:D:D

Hetero males, we are here, shag your women and drink your beer!

Love that he's signed an extension for that long, too.

Means that IF we go down and IF another club comes in wanting him then they'll have to up the price by some way.

Not necessarily, there could be a release clause tied into it which could very well be the reason he's committed to such a length of time...

Met him outside the Marquee at the Party after the parade.

Very Very nice young man.(not i a gay way!)

Good luck to him.

Thank god you cleared up that you didnt want to have sex with him. That was my first assumption

Would it be fair to assume you dont have a shirt with his name on the back?

It's great that Pearson and the club have such faith in James and Drinkwater.

On the surface, it seems a risky move to tie up players who are unproven at PL level to long-term contracts on the back of one good season in the 2nd tier. It wasn't much more than 12 months ago that James and Drinkwater were regularly in and then out of the starting line up after some inconsistent performances. It was less than 12 months ago that DD was cupping his ears at the fans, and he (less so James) has a tendency to let his head drop and get frustrated when things aren't going to plan. Yeovil at home last season being a case in point. There will be a lot of games next season when we find ourselves a goal behind and we need players with the right mentality to get us back into the match. I really hope James and Drinkwater quickly make the step-up to PL level and thrive under those situations.

The club see a lot of what we don't see - the players' attitude in training and off the pitch, for example. That obviously counts a lot when it comes to deciding who gets the long-term contracts and I have faith that they have made the right decision.

Whatever happens next year, the decision to tie up James and Drinkwater to long-term contracts is good for the stability of our club, and it's good for English football. Bring it on.

Time to move on Andy King then ...

No doubt Matty James will become the new Andy King

The club don't need a new chief gurner thanks

This.

The change from King to James was the catalyst last season.

I think that's a tad harsh on King, I'm a massive fan of James I've always been clear on that and I prefer him to King. But King was starting most of the games first half of the season, I think we were top even before James took his spot and made it his own.

I think the James - Drinkwater partnership is going to work fantastically well in the Prem this season! I'm looking forward to seeing them dominate the centre of the pitch once again!

I think if James and DD start the first half of the season the way the finished last season. And so long as Leicester are picking up points. I can see a big club coming in for them with enough money for the buy out clause at Christmas.

How do you know there is a buy out clause?

It's like Fergie bringing Scholes out of retirement all over again #Desperate

I think James can go further than Drinkwater. It's incredible to think that he's only 22 and plays like a seasoned veteran at his peak at 28. Much better things from him yet to come and I wouldn't be surprised if top half Premiership clubs are already monitoring his progress. I think he could be on the fringes of the England squad within a year or so.

I tend to agree. Though I'm being pragmatic and waiting to see how our young guns actually fare in the Prem before bigging them up too much.

It will be interesting to see if James and Drinkwater do start together on the opening day and if so, how they cope with the Everton midfield who, as we know, are a fluid unit.

James and Drinkwater imo are two of our players who may well make that step-up quite comfortably. But we'll see.

Absolutely brilliant news.

Hope him and Drinkwater are here for a very, very long time. Brilliant midfield duo and the heartbeat of our side.

Will certainly be a test to see where we're at. I think they'll cope fine. I believe it helps having two dangerous wingers and a striker with such pace as it allows for James and Drinkwater to have more space in the middle as the opposition are occupied elsewhere.

Spot on. That's what I think will get the best out of them.

Really pleased.

Drinky is massive for City, but I think close ball control and pure skill-wise, James is the probably the most talented player we have. He never panics and also seems to have extra time and I agree with the pace we will have out wide next season, Matty will be able to showcase his attacking talents.

(If only Jeff Schlupp could have Matty's first touch, he would be unplayable)
