Sunday League 2014-15

We (LDA Spartans) are struggling massively this season. Ridiculous amount of long-term injuries have really screwed us over. Doing well to field 11 players each week at the minute.

Such a shame for us as we've been a steady club for many years.

Unfortunately my Sunday side, Wymeswold FC have wrapped up yesterday.

Struggled for a side in the first two games of the season, bare 11 and then 12 players the week after, not the greatest of sides either we have had out, called the game off v Stanny last Sunday as we couldn't get a side and wasn't looking great for this weekend either.

We're all absolutely gutted, can't rely on the old lads anymore and with young lads now choosing to stay in bed now on a Sunday morning because they've been out the night before not wanting to play Sunday football then there was no other option.

We won have won the lot in the highest leagues, county cups, beat everyone in the County when the Leagues were full of good players and sides and played 3 seasons in the Sunday FA Cup.

FC Poplar I think for a few us now.

Bloody hell! Compass and now Wymeswold!

Yeah, we were kidding ourselves this season mate, wasn't fair to the lads who were turning up every week to a bare eleven, not fair on our wonderful secretary who has done everything for us in the last 15 years bless her and not fair on teams we were facing when we would have to cancel because of a lack of players.

Going to miss the fear factor we had at times, when I first started at Wymeswold there was so many games that we won before the game even kicked off.

Had a friendly last Sunday by the way, 4-0 up after 20 minutes and a lad from the other team has his leg completely snapped in half. Never seen anything like it before, complete accident too, just a clash of legs in which our player won the ball. Worse than Eduardo/Ramsey leg breaks, it was horrific.

Think we've got you again next sunday. It was horrific but he's on the mend now apparently another month or so and he'll be back training. Did feel sorry for your lad he looked devastated.

Anyway I thought we were poor that game we've been playing a lot better lately so it'll be a good game to to see if we've improved at all.

Bit nervous playing you though as ill be in CM ha

Seems like it's only the Alliance league that isn't struggling in terms of teams. Do the younger lads like being out too much and can't be bothered with getting up on a Sunday morning? Used to be hundreds of men's team across Leicester/Leicestershire. Sad times!

There seems to be a huge amount of young lads that stop playing when they hit 16. Those that aren't good enough to play for money just give up and as such there is a huge void in that 16-24 age category.

Yeah in the league cup I think. A month?! Surely not, one of the worst breaks I've ever seen, incredible recovery if he has. Yeah, our lad was devastated, especially as it was purely accidental!

I'd have hoped you've improved since then, 4-0 after 20 minutes! New team though and all that aren't you so takes a bit of time to just settle.

Kick offs moving to 2:30pm for under 16's-18's (I think it's still like that now) does not help. Bang in the middle of the day, basically wastes the whole day.

I was shocked me self when he said a month too, I thought it would be more like a year!! Yeah we all said it was purely accidental both trying to go for the ball... and to top it off that was his first 20mins playing 11 aside!

We were just a bunch of random lads that joined through facebook, seemed to have improved a lot since then but miles away from the finished article ha.

Depends on the level.

Our first choice U18's play on a Weds night, as do most of the bigger local teams in the area (Coalville, Gresley, Ellistown and Ibstock etc)

The seconds kick off at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon.

County cups have been drawn and we've got Leics constabulary who we had many a good game with before we both decided to fuk the Charnwood League off. Heavily doubt we'll get far given our main objective is to stay in a league that is nowhere near the level of some of the leagues entering teams but we've got a winnable tie and you can only hope the big teams slip up and the draws kind to you.

Notice Wilkos Sileby Athletic have managed to wangle a triple relegation and are in the shield with us (COUGH pot hunting) make them odds on to win it but they should beware a very good Meashem side.

They had 10 men, well for the first 45, they had 9 after that...... thinking it might be a bit tougher this time.

Hey come on!! No where near favourites - Charnwood Div 1 are in here.. FC Jag in the Charnwood have a v.good side, Mountsorrel Imps do too. We beat Huncote yesterday, 4-1 down at the break. Managed to turn it around. To be fair we get goals spread around the team now which is nice. And a striker that can finish well.

Sunday football dying!! The smaller leagues haven't got many years left I don't think. Think my age or the year below have brought in a solid batch of players that transferred from juniors to sundays. Other than that there isn't many young players. I also think that certain league committee's dont help the situation, dinosaur opinions. Best thing about Alliance League they have a massive committee with younger people giving there thoughts, so refreshing.

Whitwick Compass, Advance Couriers and now Wymeswold is a reminder that the biggest, longest serving successful sunday teams struggle too. Sunday Football is in massive trouble.

Yeah, there's an U18 Midweek Floodlit League which a lot of bigger teams enter nowadays, St. Andrews won it last year, but that means there are a lot less 'Sunday League' teams as most don't want to play Wednesday and Sunday.

Anyway, had a game yesterday (5pm KO) and won 8-2 after winning on Friday night as well. We should finish second this year, behind a very strong AFC (St) Andrews team. Hoping for a similar cup run to last year.

We're struggling like fuk at the minute :-/

lost 6-2 to a side we took six points off last season yesterday, were in it at 3-2. They scored again and the heads just went completely. I think our solitary point is keeping us out the drop zone, we have had a difficult start to be fair but it doesn't look to be getting any better more tough fixtures on the way.

At least it's County Cup this week, bit of a distraction.

After a truly pathetic start, we won 9-2 against Union Inn on Sunday. Until now we haven't had more than 12 turn up. A couple of new players along with a first-choice squad shows we aren't actually that bad.

To be fair I thought you'd knock some goals in and matched us in the first half, think we was way fitter in the second. Your pitch is massive!! See you at the home leg.

Yeah, we actually looked alright that first half, but you're right. Too many beer bellies and grey hairs in our team lol. Looks like you lads are smashing it!

Nice 4-0 win for us over our recent bogey team Leicester Bharat Talbot.
