Israel's land grab? Yeah, they're so desperate to take all of that land that they gave land away in negotiations with Egypt and withdrew from the Gaza Strip

There's one group that regards the others as sub-human, and it's not the Jews. The jews claim the right to live there having existed there for generations - the Arabs deny their right to exist.

No, when Palestine respond to the formation of Israel by calling for the eradication of the jews, they're provoking. Responding to an indigenous group having an officially recognised settlement by calling for them to all be killed is fairly inflammatory.

Well yes, knowing that they're ruled over by Nazis and their rulers are causing their deaths is scant consolation, but it doesn't change that Hamas are at fault.

And, since you continue to defend anti-semitism and I've not been sarcastic in far too long...

You were doing alright until that point.

You're defending an organisation that openly say that top of their agenda is the complete eradication of the jews. What would you want to call it?

I'd prefer to blame Galloway. He's not had his comeuppance yet, and is more connected with this issue (given he supports every arab dictatorship going).

Great to see the UN condemn the violation of international law in the Gaza Strip, I expect tough economic sanctions.... or maybe just a strongly worded letter.

Only condemning Israel though, and for ridiculous reasons like not sharing it's defence system, why not condemn Hamas as well? They're just as much at fault here - calling for genocide is not a measured response to other people living in land that you think you should have, the UN clearly isn't living in the real world

Hamas militants firing rockets is ****ing chicken feed compared to the IDF especially after Congress passed a bill giving them $225m for a defence shield.

Israel is the only nuclear power in the Middle East and is ****ing bananas. If it was a Muslim country it would have been invaded decades ago.

The US are yet to blame Israel for their actions, only condemning the actions themselves in isolation, thus tacitly endorsing them.

The thrust of the mainstream opposition is to the disproportion response to the rockets. The IDF have targeted beaches, schools and hospitals claiming that these were strongholds of Hamas. A ****ing UN school!! Get real.

Hamas are no angels by a long stretch of the imagination but the constant support of Israel regardless of their actions is ridiculous.

The fact that Hamas doesn't enjoy support from the Arab world should tell you something.

And why does it need a defence shield? Because Hamas keep lobbing rockets at it. But still, if you've got neighbours calling for your extinction and launching rockets at you day and night - would you honestly not retaliate? This is the problem people have with the pro-Palestine people, they gloss over, ignore, or in some cases even endorse what Hamas are doing and saying. Israel are responding with more force than necessary, but Hamas are pretty much bringing it on themselves.

It was invaded - all it's neighbours have started a war against it - hell, just after it's formation, pretty much all the Middle East tried to wipe it out. Or does it only count if the us/uk declare war on them?

So if my neighbours annoy me with the smell of their barbecue, as they do frequently, it is ok to go round and spray a few rounds of an M16 after all they were pretty much asking for it.

There's a difference between being annoying and bombing you while calling for you and all your family to be killed

So we should have carpet bombed Ireland when the IRA were active.

No, but we certainly should have tried to stop the IRA.

Seriously though - a country is at war with you and calling for your ethnic cleansing, and have made it clear they will not negotiate under any circumstances - do you honestly think that you shouldn't retaliate at all?

It didn't work in Ireland. Only a negotiated settlement brought anything close to peace.

That's a ridiculous analogy; the IRA were British citizens.

Had the Irish Republic been firing rockets at urban population centres in Ulster, do you not think there would have been a military response?

Hames are firing rockets into illegal settlements by the Israelis - I'm not condoning the behaviour of Hamas.

Israel has not respected the boundaries set out in 1964(?) and has continually built on Palestinian land.

If over 1000 Israelis had been killed against 50 odd Palestinians we would not be discussing this. There would be military intervention.

To compare this to the Conflict is ridiculous.

If the UK had behaved in the same way as Israel the UK would have been cut off in the same way as South Africa during Apartheid.

Not all IRA members were or are UK citizens. Many bombings, rocket attacks and shootings were launched from the Republic. I think the reason why there were no large scale incursions on to Irish soil was the realisation that it would only make matters worse.

.... and yet Israel is not cut off like South Africa even though it mirrors much of white apartheid policy.

But Hamas have said they won't negotiate - when it's been tried before they've responded with suicide attacks,

I don't think having a gun pointed at your head and told to negotiate is the basis for productive talks.
