Bamba's Babes Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 First of all this is not an attack on the academy product, more of nagging thought. How many games has young Thomas played for us now? Was he prolific in the academy? He has been given his chance a few times now and never really impressed; realistically how many more chances should he be given? Being in the Premier League and hoping to stay there for a long time, our academy players are only going to be given cup games at best to impress. How many more times should we pursue with Hopper over other academy players? Genuine thought and question. I'm not writing him off but with limited opportunities available is it time to look elsewhere?
Jimmy Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Iirc he's made 1 sub app for the first team in an fa cup game
Devonfox1884 Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Played 2 in the capital one cup last season too.
Stuliasz Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Feels like he's being integrated more and more with the first team. Got to be hard to break in ahead of Ulloa, Vardy and Nuge in particular though. He needs to really impress in the few chances he gets.
Bert Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 The club obviously see enough in him to offer him a 2 year deal.
Guest Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Unfortunately gash. Get rid and move on. I think I'll trust the judgement of the people who see him day in day out and are slowly developing him rather than someone on FT who probably hasn't seen him for more than 5 mins max
ramadaone Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Highly thought of Never really scored enough goals at the higher level but did ok for Academy goal wise Chances of making a Premiership striker are very slim but NP seems to have great faith in him Personally think he would make a better centre half in time if he switched positions very soon
SemperEadem Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Thought tonight was hard for him as a lot of what he tried didnt really come off. He was out muscled on a number of occasions but he hold up play looked good.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 Seems a good player but pushed off the ball at times tonight but he started the 3rd goal. Chested it down well and dinked it over someone's head. Needs a loan to get use to playing and hopefully get abit of strength. Pearson obviously rates him enough.
The Railway Man Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 Given his age and chances given n the lower divisions it's likely he isn't going to make it and of course with our sights now being set far higher than in previous years it's going to be ten times tougher for youth players to make the grade and become first teamers. He's around the squad though so Pearson must see something in him he likes, A spell on loan in the Championship would be a great move for him to actually see if he can score a few goals with a run of games.
Mack Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 Needs a season on loan somewhere. Couldn't agree more, at this stage of his career what he needs is competitive Football at a level he can have an impact in.
Lookatthebluesky Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 Danny Wilson, Barnsley's manager was in the crowd at Ilkeston the other evening - somebody like Hopper may be the reason why he was there - just speculation of course!
Tommy G Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 Dont think he will be good enough. L1 or L2 will be his level
