StanSP Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 There's a programme on BBC tomorrow night at 10.30 about the programme majority of us love turning 50 years old. Anyone got any favourite memories or moments that occurred on here? Any controversies that people remember? Has a Leicester player ever won Goal of the Month?
pSinatra Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 A Leicester player has won Goal of the Month. Julian Joachim against Barnsley in an FA Cup 3rd round replay in 1993 (although I can only find winners from 1992 onwards)
Kitchandro Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28881806 Legend, wish he'd make a full time comeback

Joachim has http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goal_of_the_Month_(England) Going back through the years I cannot believe Weller's Volley v Newcastle lost to this in goal of the season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjQSlWZTrow Travesty We'd had a few overlooked because they were on ITV, sadly.
Vacamion Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 The sense of MOTD related football nostalgia was heightened by THIS article: http://www.theguardian.com/football/gallery/2014/aug/21/memory-lane-1970s-footballers-at-home-in-pictures Do you remember when footballers didn't own watches that cost 6 months' salary? When, instead of spit-roasting the women to whom they send pics of their packets or launching scent brands or taking selfies of themselves wiping their arses with £20 notes, they were family men, trying to earn a living, like the rest of us... By the way, the photo of Ray Clemence in this article is quite sinister and will probably give me nightmares.
Vacamion Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Oh yes. I also just noticed a lookalike: Ray Clemence in the 1970s: Scarey Internet Saucy Story Guy From Last Year Be afraid.
Voll Blau Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Reckon Jimmy Hill's worth an outside punt for Yewtree.
Kitchandro Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Did this show really need a section on Hillsborough? FFS the show is only an hour long. It's not something that really sums up Match of the Day is it? Still no clips of City doing anything interesting....except conceding. Even Gary is only mentioned as 'a lover of the blue of Everton'. Piss off Jose!
Corky Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Yeboah was the best player at smashing the ball in off the crossbar. What a skill.
Voll Blau Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Yeboah was the best player at smashing the ball in off the crossbar. What a skill. What an absolute boy. Barry Davies as well.
Corky Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 What an absolute boy. Barry Davies as well. My childhood MOTD comprised of him shouting "THAT'S A LOVELY GOAL". Such a distinctive voice.
Vacamion Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 My childhood MOTD comprised of him shouting "THAT'S A LOVELY GOAL". Such a distinctive voice. Mine was "ONE NIL"... Minimalist perfection.
Voll Blau Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 My childhood MOTD comprised of him shouting "THAT'S A LOVELY GOAL". Such a distinctive voice. For years when I was younger I genuinely thought he'd provided vocals for this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86yt0xzDVgU
Kitchandro Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Ah yes the Aguero goal....which pretty much everyone watched on Sky.
Vacamion Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 Didn't Des Lynam look old? Des Lynam (only 71) seems a bit frail. Great minds, eh?
Vacamion Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 For the young uns reading this thread who don't know much about Des Lynam, just imagine a moustachioed Alpha Male, probably smelling of "Sex Panther", on a channel watched by 20 million, smooth talking his way through stuff that Jeff Stelling turned into a high pressure exercise in a way that made men want to be him and women want to be underneath him. Legend.

trabuch Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 My Dad hated him. And quite right too. Smooth bastard. Fanni magnet, even now - particularly with his non-stop tongue action. Stadt Posted 22 August 2014 Posted 22 August 2014 I feel like I've missed out on a lot football stuff from bygone eras. Gutted I never watched us at Filbert street
Soar Fox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I feel like I've missed out on a lot football stuff from bygone eras. Gutted I never watched us at Filbert street Without sounding patronising I feel sorry for the younger generation who didn't get to see us play at filbert street. I grew up in the 90's going down Filbert Street with my dad and it was the best feeling I've ever had walking into the ground. Police everywhere, republica ready to go blaring through the tannoy, fans close to the pitch. I know the stadium was sh*t hole but it was our sh*t hole. God I miss it.
