Grewks Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Anyone else concerned about how we concede so many from a counter attack in comparison to simply being outplayed through good football. Take today for instance. 0-0 at stamford bridge, yet we concede from a counter attack. 5 minutes later, we almost concede from another counter attack, when we still have 25 mins left to salvage a point. Last season it happened a lot aswell. Needlessly throwing everyone forward when there is a good quarter of the game left, with only a goal in it. Do you think it has anything to do with the 'defensive pearson' attitude that many have targeted us with in the past? We know we cannot play end to end hoping that our 'superior finishing' will cut it, because lets face it, last season we scored every 1 in 5 good chances.
Mark Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I'm concerned at our wastefulness with corners. If we continue to offer no threat despite sending players forward, as we did today and pretty much all of last season, can see us getting hit on the counter regularly in this league,.

World class sides?? My point is....you should not concede from counter attacks against sides who are superior to you, especially not a 0-0. The wasteful from corners only further emphasizes the point. We need to be more ruthless when going forward, and shoot rather than give the ball straight back.

Surely their prowess from counter attacks is one of the main reasons for them being superior to us? Top teams become top teams by counter attacking successfully because you cannot dominate every game. Agree with you about the quality of corners though - that is annoying and costly.

A counter attack occurs when the opposition outnumber you shortly after attacking yourselves. You cannot go toe to toe against a superior team and expect to come out on top. In a fight between a lightweight and a heavyweight do you seriously think the lightweight would try to win by using his power and going toe to toe? You're argument makes no sense lad. Players would rather play badly and lose them play well and lose? Do you know football? What would have been more deflating today..... 3-0, good performance from chelsea. 1-0, last minute winner from drogba following leicester missing 3 clear cut opportunities.

So we should sit back and allow the likes of Costa, Drogba and Hazard attack us? We held the best side in England for 60 minutes, what do you want? A 4-0 win? Three threads voicing concern about something or other about the game today. I don't get why people are worried at all. I myself am more optimistic about our chances after what I saw.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 It's pace ladies and gents. I'm still surprised at those who claimed that the pace of the Prem was somehow slower than the Championship. Teams get the ball, get it down and hit you very very quickly. If, over the longer term, we cannot cope with the quick counter, we will get hit time and again. We did it to teams last season. We must adapt very quickly to it being done to us this season. That's another reason why getting our set pieces better is crucial. Not only to enable us to score from them (eg. Corners) but also to stop the opposition countering from them.

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I'm really proud the team properly went for it today - think we not only surprised Chelsea but quite a few others too. I'd rather we played with intent and lose than park the bus and pray for a 0-0. That's not Nigel's way and it's not entertaining. Overall a great performance - we play like that every week and we'll be safe
Fox92 Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 It worried me. It was our own downfall though, we were wasteful at corners. Three or four times Chelsea braked with pace and power.
