ElusiveEd Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Don't know about others' experiences yesterday but I gotta say I could not fault the staff and stewards at SB. Last time I was there was in the early 90's so had a good look round the ground before going in. Twice one of the "Help" guys came over and actually asked me if I needed any directions, help or advice. I didn't have to approach them, they saw me looking around at the outsides of the ground and asked if they could help in any way. I certainly wasn't looking lost or confused either. Had a good laugh with them about them guessing I was an away supporter and one of them genuinely seemed interested in all things LCFC and after a 5 min chat, he shook my hand, and wished us luck. The security search guys shared a joke about the dogs sniffing for flares, saying they knew people "Up North" were slightly behind London in the fashion stakes but were aware we didn't wear flares anymore but they had a duty to check. The guys at the actual turnstiles took the tickets from us, checked them and inserted them into the scanners for us before handing them back and wishing us luck and a great game. The bar staff inside were seriously polite, smiley and welcoming, again wishing us luck and enjoyment of the game, even wearing LCFC badged T-shirts with messages of luck on them. After the game, I decided to get a programme £3 and that Chelsea book that came with it for an extra £2 for a neighbour of mine who's a fan. The vendor said she had no books left, only programmes, but her colleague standing next to her was having none of it and insisted that I follow her over to a lock-up 30 yards away, unlocked it, opened a box found me a book and wouldn't charge me the extra £2 because of the inconvenience. I told her I was a Leicester supporter and joked with her if she would have done that knowing so, to which she replied "Even more so as it's all about making away supporters feel valued and welcome at Chelsea" Then wished me a safe journey home. I have to admit, this is not the Chelsea and Stamford Bridge reputation I remember back in the day. I simply have nothing but praise for the club and the staff there.
Jam Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Good read, it's the small touches like that, that turn a good away trip into a memorable one. Obviously the game has a part to play also! Glad you had a good away day!
KFS Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 It's important to get the 'little things' right considering ticket prices. Sounds like they did that.
Fox92 Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 The staff had "Lineker, 10" printed on their backs when they turned around.
Stamford Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Thanks for that - a nice read! Tbh I find this attitude quite a bit on my travels. Last season I was at The Etihad, Old Trafford, St.James' Park, The Britannia and The Emirates and all were spot-on with the away fans. Burnley earlier this week were fantastic too - sat in The Cricket Club with a bunch of Burnley guys & girls and it was terrific. Stewards, police, serving staff at halt-time were top notch. Apart from a small minority of idiots I think the game is really friendly between rivals. Media does us a dis-service! I've never been to the KPS but will try to get tickets before the rematch! Hope you don't run out of pies though - like they did at Turf Moor!!!
jonthefox Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Reminds me of Reading away last season. I was highly impressed with their attitude towards us. The signs congratulating us on promotion was a nice touch too.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Nice to read, and pleased you brought publicity to it.
Countesthorpe Fox 1884 Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Steward at the turnstile Said welcome back to the premiership, we'll see you again next year I reckon, also had a joke about our fixtures saying arsenal are a pub team!
Bilbo Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Nice read. Make sure you let the club know too, it only takes a couple of minutes to e-mail them and I always think it's important to let people know that they have done a good job, when so often people only do to complain.

Good call Bilbo. Have fired off a copy of my post with some background info to CFC customer services. Credit where it's due and all that. I completely agree with your point about people only ever want to complain. You only have to read some threads on here to see that.
Foxes1 Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Hope you don't run out of pies though - like they did at Turf Moor!!! We won't unless GTF gets to them first.
promised land Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 So that's what the dog was sniffing for, flares. Never knew that, I too was a bit taken back by the bar staff with the Leicester t shirts on, also the poster on the staircase after the game with the LCFC badge and something like 'have a safe journey home' on it. Do the staff wear these t shirts for every club or was it only on the first home game of the season? Stewards on the stairs were a bit ott, showing your ticket at the bottom, then when you get to the top another steward wants to see your ticket. Some geezer outside before the match said 'welcome back to the premier league' and shook my hand. Who were the youngsters in the upper shed in red track suits in the away end? 15-20 of them all together?
sly1 Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Great day out .even coming out some chelsea fans were saying# playing like that you'll stay up# up the city.
iancognito Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Sounds like a great day. Two of my best away days came in the capital around Sept/Oct 1996 at Tottenham and West Ham. West Ham invited a bunch of us to a 'home' courtyard at a pub near the ground and spent a couple of hours before the game insisting they get the beers in and having a bit of banter with us and swapping stories. Tottenham supporters club did similar but had laid on a full spread in their louge round the corner from WHL. Happy memories.

Shame the surrender business didn't share the same opinion! you couldn't use any restaurant or pub to buy my kids a drink or food! very poor, about the ground the cash machine didn't work or the food stalls in the ground wouldn't except cards either! even though the tills had the facility. still a great day but not so excited as you. Langley Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I completely agree with the OP the stewards were lovely. It was great bar the fact it was £2.50 for a coke, £1.50 for a 40p packet of crisps and a bag of harribo was £3.30.

My post says about CFC staff, they ain't responsible for them. Funny you should say about cash machines not working, one of the ones at my local Morrisons wasn't working the other day. It happens. How did the staff at the ground handle your complaint about card payments not being taken?

It was great bar the fact it was £2.50 for a coke, £1.50 for a 40p packet of crisps and a bag of harribo was £3.30. The pop and crisps aint no cheaper at our ground. Probably more expensive really if you compared the average salary of a person attending a chelsea match in comparison to one at leicester.
crisp monster Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Totally agree - the staff at the bridge were superb throughout. If you treat people right it can make all the difference
Soar Fox Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 I noticed a woman steward who was trying to get some fans to sit down in the corner near the front rows. She was the only one who seemed bothered about getting a couple of fans to sit down, when other stewards just let it be. Thankfully when ever they sat down fans around them started singing and they all stood up again.
Marmite Posted 24 August 2014 Posted 24 August 2014 Good day out, beer was a bit pricey in the surrounding pubs but you have to expect that in London. Fans were friendly enough as well
