Given Southampton had 5 players in and around the England set-up there is no reason why our players can't progress and make the step up.

 

England are also dross at the this time - would Moore get in ahead of Ferdinand, Terry, Campbell and King in their prime probably not but could he be better than Smalling? I hope so.

 

Is Danny Drinkerwater or Matty James as good as Delph - I hope so

 

Whiel they are different players would you take Lambert or Vardy - I'd probably go for Vardy, but I'd take Rodrigues over both of them.  Danny Ings is also a good shout for an English striker who might make the next step up.

I think Vardy qualifies for Wales but on twitter he said he rather have his legs chopped off.

After Roy Hodgson watched our first game with Everton, I feel, if Drinky had not got injured, we would  have seen him making his international debut this week!

 

IMO, Drinky has what it takes to fill the boots of Gerrard and Lampard, following their international retirements.

 

If he gains his form from last season, I can't see why he wouldn't be chosen! Other than Roy's obsession with not putting a player out of the top 6 teams into his squad... this may change with growing criticism though!

 

Who else do you feel should be called up (Leicester player or otherwise). I know my Stokey friend throws a tantrum everytime Shawcross isn't picked, despite Roy repeatedly saying 'it's getting difficult to find quality English players who play regular football'.

 

EDIT: Drinky has what it takes to fill the boots of Gerrard and Lampard in the future!

In a year or two maybe, but even if he had played all 3 games and got man of the match in every game he has no chance of getting in the England squad that quick.

If Vardy wants to be called up to England he needs to be finishing that chance he had on Sunday, he's not played much so not at his sharpest and up against a good keeper, but international class forwards score in that position.

 

Not saying it won't happen but there are a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order, if he wants to get ahead of them he needs goals to catch Roy's eye.

Got to be Liam Moore and within the year if he continues to perform like he has against some of the best attackers in the world.

 

Both Stones and Chambers have been called up despite playing out of position, less regularly and not even doing as well as Liam to be honest. I think when Roy has seen Moore of Liam ( :thumbup: ) he could get called up as long as he keeps performing like he has been.

 

Based on current form Liam would already be in the squad in my opinion but Roy has only really seen him play once before selecting the squad. However, Roy always favours players from the top sides even if they aren't playing regularly or even doing very well so if he continues to do that then it could be a while until Liam gets the call up

Obviously, I'd much rather we kept all our best young first team players, but I don't think it would be the end of the world if they had to be sold. They'd only be let go for silly money, and we still have the manager and scouts that dug up these gems, so I'd be confident that they could find replacements.

If he'd have kept that shot on the ground I think it would have flashed into the bottom corner. The positioning on it was great, it was just high enough for the keeper to get down to though. His first appearance of the season though, 15 mins after coming on...I'll give him the benefit of the doubt this time.

For sure, as I said he's not played much recently and it wasn't a criticism because it wasn't a bad effort and he did well with Nuge to create the opportunity, but the difference between being good at this level and being international class is finishing those opportunities.

Rooney/Welbeck/Lambert as goal scoring strikers are not on another level. Rooney is on another level as the number 10 yes but the other 2 are shite.

Sturridge - yes your right...

But other than him in England's number 9 shirt.... Who's a better option than Vardy? I honesty can't think!

Vardy is electric and gets the team playing to his tempo... I personally think he would do pretty good.

Would be a well deserved call up as well from how he's blossomed from non league to being one of the best players in a that won the Championship.

I think Jamie Vardy's phenomenal but you can't seriously think at this current moment he's a better choice leading the line for England compared to Rooney (no matter how much people dislike him), Lambert or Welbeck?

 

Give the guy chance to start a Premier League game and maybe even score a goal at this level, who knows he could be on the fringes if Rodriguez doesn't properly recover from his injury but I think we're more likely to see Berahino or Ings in the squad.

Okay, he probably won't be the next Leicester player called up to the England squad - I'd imagine that'd be Moore - but Albrighton has the ability to make that step up into what is actually a pretty awful England team right now.

He took a dip in form in recent years, but if he can regain that form with us, I reckon he has the potential to earn a call-up within the next couple of seasons. That said, I suppose you could say the majority of younger English players in the Premier League have the potential to play for England given a couple of years.

I agree with this to be honest. Based on the first 3 games of the season at least anyway. I'm not really sure of how well Chambers did last season but so far at Arsenal i havn't been impressed with him.

 

Also Moore will get more game time which should help him to progress faster

Yer you are probably right. Based on his performances so far he shouldn't be there so it's probably just because he's at a big club.

 

Same with Stones in my opinion as well. Only played 1 game so far this season which was against us and he didn't look that great.

 

Both should be playing for U21s and getting some experience. Neither are good enough for the senior team yet
