Leicester's next England player?

Trying to remember the last City player to play for England got us wondering who might be the next. Drinkwater? Vardy? Liam Moore? They'd all be more lively than most of the bunch running around tonight.

I think, looking at the strength of the England squad at the minute Drinkwater/James are the more likely to get a call-up first. The fact that Colback and Delph are in this current squad shows how weak the central midfield area is at the minute.

If Moore plays like he has done these past 3 games and impresses in his last games for the U21 squad then I can see him threatening the squad before the end of the Euro qualifying campaign. The only downside for Moore is that CB is probably England's strongest position at the minute with Cahill, Jones, Chambers, Jagielka and Stones all ahead of him in the pecking order at the minute.

Stones looked poor vs us, Martinez dropped him after. Same goes for Jagielka so far this year - And Chambers at 19? he's got his cap because he moved to Arsenal and had an okay season. Liam Moore isn't far off based on his games for us this season, for Roy it's all about the NOW. And if DD / Vardy light up and perform as we know they can, then there's no reason why Roy won't give them a chance. Roy already saw Stones vs us, and you'd have to say Moore was the better player on the day.

Whoever it is would make watching England a bit less like hard work. Old enough to remember the excitement in the early and mid '70s when Whitworth, Worthington & Weller we're winning their caps.

That defence doesn't install you with faith though. I don't think Cahill and Jagielka are of international standard so I would replace them with two younger lads with the other three and see if they can develop. Hey, what have England got to lose?

Cahill is England's best defender by a country mile. I can see your point regarding Jagielka, same with RedSoxUK, but I just think that his reputation will keep him in the squad for longer than he should be in all honesty. Moore will have to be outstanding all season to break his way into the squad for me, also got Dier at Tottenham who will challenge Moore for CB as he is good with the ball at his feet.

I have no doubt that Moore will get an England cap in his career but with the strength of the midfield, after losing Gerrard and Lampard, I can see James/Drinkwater getting one before Moore does.

If these Man Utd fans are right about Tom Lawrence it might be him, but right now, I would've said Liam Moore.

We did wonder about Lawrence. But if he's played for Wales U21s does that rule him out? Not sure.

Ah good point... Although the rules seem to change on a daily basis but I'm assuming under 21's is too late to play for a different senior country?
