Guest Col city fan Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 It would be a bit strange at his age to adapt from a position he's made a career out of at the very top level to being pushed further forward. Some players roles change as they get older mate. My concern with Cambi is that he don't have the legs anymore to make those gut wrenching bursts back into our own area to track back a younger, fitter oncoming midfielder. People will argue with this, but I think that's happened a few times this season. Where I CAN see him playing is a bit further forward, with no defensive demands, to have more time on the ball to spray it around (as he can do) and do more damage further forward. I can see a scenario where Cambiasso has the ball mid way into the opposition half, and slots a slide rule pass into Kramaric to run onto. Or where he has the ball on the half way line and pings it out to Mahrez or Albrighton on the wing. I can see that happening more effectively than I can expecting him to track back on Hazard running into our own penalty area. If that makes sense.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Hammond-Cambiasso with James further forward really should be tried out, I think James is capable of it, everything we created home to Sunderland came through him. Problem with that is that your more attacking midfielder you'd be expecting to have a few chances over the course of the 90 minutes, and for all his positive/good attributes James has shown here, shooting/finishing is dead last on that list.
l444ry Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 At least some people are actually reading what I actually wrote. It took long enough. Cheers guys. I've also said I could see Cambiasso actually playing a role slightly further forward. That way, he could do some damage offensively. He IS our best passing midfielder, without doubt. Cambi in front of a pairing of say, James and Hammond..I could certainly see working. Not far in front. James and Hammond deeper, sitting off the back four, with Cambiasso in front of them around the centre of the pitch. I see mileage in that. This is the most common sense suggestion I've read on this subject. Where does the idea come from that Cambiasso is an out and out defensive midfielder?

Completely agree and hope Pearson opens his eyes and mind to this too.

Just hope NP can come up with something very similar. Because I believe unless he can say he thought of it, it won't happen. Two great posts, thanks
jim5000 Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 I can't see Cambiasso playing in a forward role. He is a great passer, sure, but someone in that role also has to burst forward to support attacks and Cambiasso just can't do that. All season our strikers have been isolated up front, we need our attacking midfielder to be able to get into the box when we break.

Collibosher70 Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Cambiasso should just have the free role as Gary Parker did...let him do what he does best
GingerrrFox Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Hammond does the same job as Cattermole That does a disservice to Cattermole's footballing ability. He's twice the player Hammond is with the ball at feet.
Dickov22 Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Hammond does the same job as Cattermole Disagree. Hammond has done well but as a footballer he's pretty limited with the ball at his feet. Cattermole is better. He can shoot and also spray a pass
Stadt Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 I never said Hammond was a better player but it was erroneous to pout out we needed a player like Cattermole when we have a player that performs the same role.
Bettsj2 Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Struggle to believe how out of his depth DD looks at this level, definitely been my biggest disappointment this season. This. He left his balls in the Championship. Lokks like a frightened child at the minute.
Robin JD Popley Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Struggling to take any of your options seriously. On twitter and here you went way overboard about the Cambiasso signing in the summer. Season before last you slated Vardy. You called the forum saying we should sign Capoue (bet you've never seen him play) and Lennon (is he better than Mahrez?!) Strikes me you just believe the hype constantly and rate players because theyre big names. Bet you loved the sven days! In my defence I didn't like the Sven era all that much at all. I know we all had hope that it would pay off but I do think this is somewhat unfair on me. I have said time and time again I am no big fan of Nigel's footballing style (as a personality, he has grown on me) but will support him as long as he is in charge of our club. With regards to Cambiasso, long been a fan and like most on here, was delighted we managed to sign him. Capoue has really impressed me whenever I've seen him play and I also agree with Col that we probably do need that player with a bit more know how in other departments that our midfield is generally lacking. Lennon - may be no better than Mahrez but has the experience in this league. That is all I am trying to say. Experience is vital in this league and Nigel learnt that with the Championship needing Championship quality players. Unfortunately in this league you don't get that time but nevertheless, you are entitled to your opinion.
