Cambiasso

Never went over the top when we signed him, and still think a fully fit Matty James is a better player now, but Cambiasso is still a brilliant player.

I agree with Col to an extent, we should have signed a ball winning centre mid who could play a bit (eg a better version of Hammond) over the summer. Not saying we shouldn't have signed Cambiasso also- imagine a midfield of Cambiasso, James plus a really strong tackler and I think we'd have more points by now than we do. So often we are outmuscled in the middle of the park. Spurs away and Stoke at home the last two instances where this was glaringly obvious. Hammond does well in the role but is lacking in his distribution. He's a bit limited but is probably the best we have for that role at the moment.

I watched Cambridge the other night and although they lost, they stopped Man Utd going through the middle at them a lot more efficiently than we seemed to do. They packed the midfield and just tried to stop Man Utd playing through there. Still can't believe we went there with a 2 man midfield. For me, we've looked our best this season with 3 in there.

We've surely got to go with 3 centre mids now in every game where possible. Yeah that means sacrificing a wide man or a striker, but we've got to become more compact and harder to beat.

If fit, Cambiasso should start every week for me, probably with James and Hammond.

I don't think James has been that effective this year. Better than others but nothing special. e.g missed chances, stupid fouls etc..

No where near as good as Cambiasso or Hammond

Does have a bit more strength than Drinkwater ,King etc... but is too slow at times.

But with what we have its 2 from those 3 or all 3 on Saturday

There are some interesting comments in there.

'Up there with the best midfields in the league' being one.

I still think he's much better in a three where he's got somebody to protect him and do the leg work that he can't anymore. His performance against United showed that he is capable of doing it at this level, and the glimpses of quality we have seen thus far have been class. Yes he's nowhere near the player he was, nobody has ever suggested that, but he is a former Argentina international whom is trying to protect Wes Morgan at the back and support Jamie Vardy and David Nugent going forward, a job that many would find tough in this division.

He will have a big role to play in what division we play in next season.

The guy must feel he's at a circus. Be interesting how he would perform in a settled side where the best round pegs go in to appropriate round holes.

He needs a good performance on Saturday.

I've see glimpses here and there of what he's capable of, I think his fitness was a problem at the start along with how quick the Premiership League is.

Still a good signing for City though...he's a leader in the middle of park telling everyone what to do!!

The reason we don't have a settled side for the last half a dozen games is down mostly to injury, suspension and AFCON.

His free kick, just prior to our goal at Old Trafford, was delightful. Picked out Albrighton with a wonderful pass. Cambiasso is a class above, I think everyone can see that, his brain is miles ahead as I thought it would be.

He has won more as an individual than we have as a club. End of debate.

How does that work? He has always played in a team. Yes, he has won a lot, but he never did it as an individual.

The point I'm making is that if there is anyone we shouldn't doubt the integrity of, it is him. Yes, he isn't as young as he used to be, but as Fox92 rightly pointed out - his footballing brain is still as sharp as ever. Miles ahead of most of the rest of the team.

Players like him play in great sides for a reason, so, it's time some of the squad we have around him step up to his standards (as best they can) rather than overraud him meaning we don't utilise his abilities correctly.

Always been a firm believer that no matter your background/own skillset, you can be as good as anyone else if you are prepared to work hard. He's a teacher as well as a player so the young kids we have should constantly ask questions on that pitch about how to make them better and it will filter down to the rest of the team. Schwarzer is another player who can do this same thing and Huth and Upson. All played at the top for most of their careers and for good reason too.

I agree with that. My point is, it's a team game, and it requires players who complement each other to win games. He might be the best player in the world, but he won't win games all by himself. Personally, I don't think he fits in with what we need at the moment. I think Hammond and James are more effective in our team.

You wanted us to sign Lee Catermole, your opinion is worthless.

I understand your point too. :) I just feel that with him in our side we have a better chance of survival.

My starting line up on Saturday would be as followed;

SCHWARZER, SIMPSON, WASYL, UPSON, SCHLUPP.

ALBRIGHTON, CAMBIASSO, JAMES, MAHREZ.

KRAMARIC, ULLOA.

In that eleven you have experience, youth and most of all, flair and resilence. A good blend and a potentially excellent team.

I do like that team.

I thought Cambiasso would be staying back and protecting the back 4 more than he has done. From there I think he can control the game and distribute the ball properly. However, he seems to have been pushing up, which James will do too, which will leave the back 4 more exposed.

IF he stays in the middle of the park and doesn't advance too much, I think he'd be great for us.

Spoke to a man united fan last Sunday who was at the game says he was best player on the pitch second half ran the show

. Absolutely. When he came on at least we got some kind of foot in the game. IMO he is our best player by miles. Mahrez will come good technically but does not have his footballing brain for the finished article. When he is fit week in and week out we must start the guy to give us a chance.

I just can't see the resilience, Cambiasso & James would be overrun, while Hammond does offer that extra protection to our backline and arguably our best midfield performances have come with him in the team... no matter how much better ON PAPER Cambiasso or James may be

Palace can be pretty pacey too with a direct style, personally think RDL needs to be at RB

The only time we get overrun is when we play with King and Drinkwater, King let's people run past him while Drinkwater is caught too high up the field.

Get him in. My only criticism of him is that he over-estimates his own physique at times and as a result is out of position when we should be defending. I do like the fact he does get forward but he does it a little too often I think, something he could get away with at Inter but not here.

Amazed you could think that about James. Bar a poor game at Villa Park I think he's looked very strong in the midfield. Good touch, gets forward, gets stuck in and very strong. Best midfielder we have for me. Hammond does a job but is a bit limited, wouldn't have much of a preference between him or Drinkwater really. If Cambiasso is fit he has to play

Will Jedinak be back for them? He could have a big impact on Cambiasso's performance if he plays.

Hope he's not back. He'll dominate us like he did at Selhurst Park
