Stuliasz Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Mahrez Impresses On Return To Starting Lineup lcfcratings.wordpress.com Saturday 4 October, 15:00Barclays Premier LeagueKing Power Stadium, Leicester Leicester City 2Schlupp 33′, Mahrez 40′ Burnley 2Kightly 39′, Wallace 90′ Algerian Riyad Mahrez was voted as City's man of the match by the home support after Ross Wallace's equaliser deep into added time sent City fans home frustrated. Mahrez was rated considerably higher than fellow goalscorer Jeffrey Schlupp, whose fairly average rating was enough to earn him second place, while Jamie Vardy secured a place in the top three after a dogged display which included an assist for the Mahrez goal. The majority of the starting eleven received slightly above average ratings, but it cannot be argued that Mahrez deserved his award after an assist and a goal in his return to the starting line up. Kasper Schmeichel came in for considerable criticism for his positioning in relation to the late free kick, and this is reflected in his poor rating which saw him voted the worst player on the day. There were below average performances from Dean Hammond and the three substitutes, while Leo Ulloa put in a second consecutive disappointing display as his flying start to the season hits the buffers. Despite a poor decision in giving the free-kick for the equaliser, the rating for Phil Dowd was slightly above average. Nigel Pearson received a below average mark for his managerial performance on the day, although the overall confidence in the gaffer climbed from the 92% rating given after the Palace defeat to 96%. Pearson described City as better than Burnley "on every level" in his post-match interview, but there was little difference on the day between the average team rating for City and the rating given to Burnley by the home support. The monthly results and awards for September will be posted this coming weekend. TheUltimateWinner Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Manager confidence has gone up? This of all the games I would of thought would be crisis point for most people... Fairly good representation once again.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 I think it's because a few posters were voting the confidence on whether they thought he got the game in question right, rather than overall confidence, and they've realised now what it means, hence the rating going up. Riyad definitely man of the match, by some margin.

ScouseFox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 pretty much all what i'd expect except de laet should be higher imo. 5.52 for burnley's performance is a bit high too. and yeah if 3.5% actually want pearson out then just nahhh
NewburyFox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Surprised to see Liam above Wes. I thought Liam was awful, Juke gave him a torrid time.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 "Despite a poor decision in giving the free-kick for the equaliser" Really? Do people actually think that in the light of day? It was a clear block and a foul every day in the Premier League.
Dan Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 It's a foul all day long and such an unnecessary one too.

Schlupp was on his way to mark the Burnley player on his front which would have been far less riskier. Looking at the highlights just confirmed my initial thoughts, it was a stupid, adrenaline-filled tackle by James.
Guest MattP Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 Surprised to see Liam above Wes. I thought Liam was awful, Juke gave him a torrid time. Same, I thought Liam was probably our worst outfield player. The 'one of our own' thing seems to bump his rating to a point higher than it should be every match.
Captain... Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 I don't think Liam did badly, would Morgan have coped any better against Juke? He may not have won much in the air, but he is facing a taller opponent, you can't say someone did badly because he was too short. Juke may have won a lot in the air but he didn't do anything with it and that was down to the pressure Liam was putting him under. He also threw himself around blocking shots which always looks good and stands out. (as previously mentioned I've not been in the mood to watch any highlights back, maybe it will be clearer on TV)

I was going off my thoughts at the time in addition to what others who have seen the replay have been telling me in person, which includes a non-Leicester supporting mate who is a lower-level ref (not Gavin Ward ). I suppose I could write my report with a bit more neutrality but it's a blog at the end of the day so I'd rather let my blue-tinted glasses show from time to time.

(as previously mentioned I've not been in the mood to watch any highlights back, maybe it will be clearer on TV) I have to think he would have done, he certainly did against Middlesborough and Bolton from what I remember last season and I couldn't have seen him being losing the first ball for the goal like he Moore did. Moore has done quite well but he was outclassed at the weekend by striker who was so poor he was loaned out in the Championship last season. Height cannot be used as an excuse for a centre back and if it's that much a problem then the position isn't for him (though it clearly is). I was prepared to brush off the goals we had conceded given the hard start and attacking forces we had faced early season but the last two games give a clear indication that we are very vulnerable at centre back still, maybe it's time for Wasyl and Hamer to be bought back into the side against teams whose best chance of a goal seems to be from set pieces a la Burnley/Palace/Stoke etc

I think it can! Love seeing these averaged out player ratings! Keep up the great work.

I think the question now has to be asked, if Moore was getting dominated by a player that Morgan had no problems with in the championship, then why didn't Morgan pick him up? If Moore is struggling against a certain player that would be the logical thing to do. If he continues struggling then you bring on Was.

Completely fair, and no complaints about the blue specs from me. Like everyone else has said, it's great to have the stats crunched like this, and it's not easy to write a report after a game that ended like that. FWIW, I think if you do watch it back you will probably change your mind, but it doesn't matter in the least. Just think that's why the ref's rating is higher than you expected... PS. If your mate ever gets promoted and refs us, my advice is to keep it to yourself. Although if he'd not have given that free kick, he might have enough blue tint about him to be worth crowing about!

As poor as we've been defensively this season, Wasyl is about as far from a premiership defender as you could find. He was a liability last year but got away with countless mistakes due to the lack of quality in the opposition. He wouldn't in this league. I had doubts about Moore at this level, but I think he's proven he's up to it. I wouldn't say he was any worse than Morgan on Sat. Just a poor day all round.
Dickov22 Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 Not quite sure how Schlupp is so high! Because he scored and also played some great stuff first half?

Yeah I'm not saying I'd start Wasyl every week at all, just a consideration for when we play teams who will be strong on set pieces I think he has to be worth thinking about as Moore and Morgan really don't seem the most commanding at all. I think Moore has done well, I'm just slightly concerned the partnership (and keeper) as a whole is going to struggle with teams who realise lobbing the ball into our area generally causes problems, it's something we won't get away with at this level if we can't sort it out.

shen Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 Or maybe people just disagree with you. I thought Liam did better than Wes this weekend. From the replay, Liam looks like he was at fault for their first goal. He was a few meters behind the other defenders playing their striker onside. He then loses the aerial duel against the same player. Bad defending, pure and simple.

(as previously mentioned I've not been in the mood to watch any highlights back, maybe it will be clearer on TV) We don't have an aerially dominant centre half other than the untested Upson. It's a concern of mine. I'm not sure Wasilewski's all that in the air as well as the other two.
Nick Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 I thought Konchesky deserved a higher rating to be honest - he made some crucial contributions that got the team out of the mire.

I can't remember us having a really aerially dominant centre half in ages. I agree, it's a problem. I also agree on Kasper; he doesn't dominate his area anywhere near enough. You've only got to watch other keepers in the division and see how good they are at it. I don't understand why he can't improve.
