Driving at 70 on a motorway and overtaking a lorry at 60 who was overtaking another lorry going slower. I safely pass the lorry in the middle lane and want to pull across but the guy behind me who’s been tailgating me as I over take can’t be bothered to wait and undertakes me. By which point a middle lane hogger  has caught up and is staying almost level with me and I can’t get across without either speeding or slowing right down. To add insult to injury there’s a police car behind tailgating me now.

All this to say I got away with speeding right in front of a cop.

One of the only aspects of driving which is better in Spain. They don't use indicators, they can't use roundabouts, and they double park whenever they like. But boy do they have great lane discipline!

How is it risky, if the road in front of them is clear? Those in the side road waiting should wait for it to definitely be clear for them to join

I thought the highway code says that main road users have priority over those turning in to the main road? I could be wrong though, it's years since I took my test!

Common sense tells me that if I'm sitting at a junction in a side road waiting to turn on to a main road, I need to be certain it's clear

Yes, but in this situation the driver didn't have a clear view of the bike or any other vehicle, that might have been behind the truck. The mantra I've been taught on my blue light training is "never assume, always be sure".

They probably recognised the situation you were in.

Haha. I was in Spain on holiday several years ago and was sitting in a bar. An ambulance pulled up outside, double parked and the crew got out. I assumed there was some kind of incident going on but no. They calmly got out of the ambulance, went to the bar and a beer each. Unbelievable!

That's just the way things go over here

Yes I agree, maybe I didn't explain it very well. The driver pulling out should have waited until they were sure it was clear, and even anticipated that someone could have been overtaking the turning vehicle.

You're nicked mate.

Thought I would pop this into this thread.

FFS just watched the full video on twitter he goes speeding down my parents road right past their car at ridiculous speed.

Me!

Nearly cleared up a cyclist crossing the side road that I was about to turn into just as he was starting to cross. I completely forgot the new HC rule about giving way to pedestrians/cyclists that are waiting to cross the road you are turning into.

Woman decided to try and ram my car on the a46 because I pulled out first to over take a motorhome.

Continues to aggresively drive behind me honking, accerlating etc etc.

Then on the M1 i go to over take a car in front, I am several car lengths in front of her (she is behind me and in the lane i want to go into).  I've indicated and picked up speed (to keep a clear distance from her given her previous antics). Indicating a good few seconds. She is still several car lengths behind. I casually pull across whilst maintaining speed...she accelerates and comes over me to try and ram me back into my lane

She then has to brake heavily to prevent herself going into the car in front.

All whilst she had 3 children in the car.

Save the footage and report her online.

I'm not really into doing that sort of thing but in this case it sounds deserved.

Been noticing it more and more people driving with at least an entire wheel over the central white lines. Started noticing it on a couple of bends to begin with but now see it all the time on straight roads too. Don’t know if it’s drivers not focused or just generally not giving a toss anymore.

Potentially chargeable with dangerous driving. Her manoeuvre could have resulted in a collision which could not be attributable to you.

They're on their social meedja innit. was next to a driver today on the A46 who was drifting out of his lane. I got alongside and he's scrolling on his phone.

Problem is though is that she will claim I've pulled out in front of her at short notice. I don't have a rear facing cam.

I've just checked the vid again and she has acclerated upside with me 4 seconds after I started the lane switch (which would be another 3-4 seconds after indicating - not shown) , possible that her argument wouldn't stand on that basis. Also the 4th lane is empty so no excuse (and she was half and half which further demonstrates it).

The speed compared to the car in front as well as the braking indicates that she wasn't driving at a reasonably safe speed of that lane anyway.

Might report it.

I know people will say there has always been silly people on the road but my confidence in driving on motorways has gone right down recently. Had an experience that I’ve posted about the other day and then yesterday had so many tailgaters, undertaking and cutting up on slip ways.

The undertaking seems to be down to the fact that people just don’t like leaving space, if I’m overtaking I’m not coming back across until I’ve left a safe stopping distance and people are inpatient.

The tailgaters yesterday made no sense as I was in the left lane and it wasn’t busy and I had two cars within a few feet of me on separate occasions. I assumed they weren’t overtaking because they were about to come off but that wasn’t the case.

Stuff like this terrifies and baffles me. I’ve got a baby in the way and I don’t know how I’m going to feel confident driving them around.

That doesn’t shock me anymore you see it so often. A few years ago I was following a car on the Birstall A6 roundabout, drifting between lanes quite erratically. As I pulled up at the lights I looked across and she was reading a book on the steering wheel!
The car was covered in “baby on board” and those kind of signs too which made it worse somehow

I admit I do go past on the left. Though its a 4 lane section (the usual places on m25 / m1) when the first lane is empty, lane 2 is sparsely populated and lanes 3 and 4 are congested at 60mph.

I'm sorry but I am doing 70mph in lane 1.

You might be addressing those who tailgate then look to cut under asap. Thats not me and I have witnessed many near misses (BMW x3 or x5 on M1 before Luton last month - I should have saved the footage) where they are touching bumper at 80 and cutting across inches in front of others. Ironically as per the above example, he got stuck in lane 4 as I tootled past in lane 1. Unfortunately I had to witness his lunacy again (but was looking out for him to avoid).

Perhaps it was an instruction manual?

Reading these last few posts has reminded me of following a large red van in the lanes near my home three days ago. The van was moving over the road and slowing - then going faster.

I thought, "he's (?) driving erratically, wonder if he's pissed". I got ready to take another route to get out of his wake.

Then, just before I did, he slowed down, indicating left, then speeded up and indicated right into a local fishing site.

As he did so I noticed a small hand resting on the driver side rear view mirror. I suspect he'd got a child on his lap and was letting the kid 'have a go'. Guess he thought it was ok on a 'quiet country road'. No such thing as as a quiet country road these days. People will ignore any rule or common sense if it suits them.

Drivers use this road as a rat-run mornings and evenings and forget that it's not the A5.

I've noticed over a long period of time that there are confident drivers and cautious drivers. Get the latter venturing forth at night round here and they're driving at 20mph using full beam whether there's oncoming traffic or not. You can't legislate for people who can't adapt to unusual conditions.

Overly cautious drivers wind me up, but at least they're only causing a slight delay and not a huge potential accident.

Depends on the situation. I've come across some nervous wrecks on dual carriageways/motorways before doing 40mph or so and thought it's only a matter of time before they're involved in a serious accident

Pet hate is those who don't accelerate on slip roads and want to join a dual carriage way at 30-40mph.

I will slow down to give myself the biggest gap possible so I can get up to speed after they have joined.

My biggest pet hate are those who join at 30-40 then accelerate to 70 once in lane.
