Guest ttfn Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 Can anyone remember how crap he was second half of last season? The answer is very. Yeah I remember him being particularly dreadful in our 9 game winning run, 8 of which he started and 6 of which were in the second half of the season. I then definitely don't remember him being injured for much of the rest of the season before scoring the goal which won us the title. Nobody's pretending he's a superstar but he'd surely be a better option than Schlupp.

Although Mahrez seemed poised to replace Lloyd anyway because tbf to Babs Lloyd's form had dropped a little and Mahrez was looking good off the bench.
Babylon Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 Yes. Although Mahrez seemed poised to replace Lloyd anyway because tbf to Babs Lloyd's form had dropped a little and Mahrez was looking good off the bench. Lloyd is Lloyd... he has forever had bad second halves to each season it seems. Having said that, I still wanted him to stay as he's a decent option. But he's certainly not going to have been the answer to our problems. His presence is hardly likely to have stopped Vardy missing sitters or the defenders / keeper rolling the ball into the path of the opposition.
RedSoxUK Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 No... You're an idiot if you think we're a good enough all-round team to field a player as defensively weak as the old bencher Lloyd Dyer. Shows the quality in that position.Schlupp - awful on LW doesn't even look like pro footballer in that positionKnockaert - Glacial & inadequateMahrez - Vs Liverpool when he moved there later on? Just woeful! If people can't see that Dyer would add an option to the squad at LW, then I'm even more baffled as to the director of football's inability to sort it out favourably for ours & his club You're an utter fool, Mahrez was our best player vs Liverpool, and was fantastic in the final 10/15 minutes.

I wouldn't call him a fool, but I certainly felt Mahrez actually improved quite a bit when he came over to the left and looked threatening.

lcfcjw16 Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 People say he can't handle the top flight, but in the past few years he's scored against Real Madrid, Man CIty, Fulham etc. He can score against the big teams. He won't come back to us anyway unfortuneately.
Dan Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 I personally think we'd be stronger with him but the ship has sailed. We need better than him and Schlupp now.
hesapeepingtom Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 No. His pace, brilliant whenever he used it, but this is the top flight and you can't just use pace alone. He lacked a footballing brain so he'd only get caught out more. I think with Dyer and Schlupp we'd have the most frustrating wingers in the division. erm dyer is a lot better than schlupp on the wing mate!
lcfcjw16 Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 http://www.wfcforums.com/showthread.php?53139-Lloyd-Dyer Watford fans don't seem to like him.
Fox92 Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 erm dyer is a lot better than schlupp on the wing mate! Didn't say he wasn't. They both lack a footballing brain.

Granted he had an injury, but he played 19/20 games still and his form dropped massively compared to the first half of the season. People were wanting him replaced on here, I've not just made his poor form up.

If he's upset about the lack of playing time, I can understand him. Still no excuse for throwing tantrums, mind. Personally, I wonder whether he'd remained as calm and patient if he had stayed with us for one more season (in the Premier League).
Fox92 Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 People actually judge players' ability based on who they've scored against? lol Dyer scored against Real Madrid. Big wow. Didn't Bamba score against Manchester City? Means nothing.

Personally, I wonder whether he'd remained as calm and patient if he had stayed with us for one more season (in the Premier League). He turned down our contract offer of playing in the Prem. He rejected us remember... and now throws a tantrum when not playing in a 5 - 0 win? No thanks.
Russell sprout Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 I think he would be ideal for the last 15-20mins of a game, get in behind defenders, based on our current crop on the left hand side I still feel he has something to offer for the above period of games, I think if he got offered a 6 month contract with the option of another year(performance related)and to get out of watford, that he would jump at the chance,I think that was probably the purpose of the 1 year contract which he turned down.
Bamba's Babes Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 Dumb decision to not offer Dyer what he wanted. He had just played his best football for us and would have been great to bring him off the bench.
Vicki Vixen Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 If Lloyd Dyer was good enough to play PL football, he would have been signed by a PL club. Any one of the 20 PL teams could have made him an offer in the summer since he was a free agent. But the reality is he has found the level that his quality and attitude deserve, which is sitting on the bench in the Championship feeling hard done by.
J.Lisemore Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 Obviously Lloyd would be an improvement on Schlupp but as has been said, that ship has sailed now.
NGoloMode Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 I love Lloyd but Schlupp is a better player than him these days.
roger the dodger Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 Llyod dyer wouldn't add anything, not good enough for the prem... don,t agree
lcfcsnow Posted 6 December 2014 Posted 6 December 2014 It was a spot on decision to let him go, where we failed was finding a replacement, we didn't. If we made similar decisions on the likes of Konchesky and Nugent instead of holding onto bad rubbish we might have actually stood a chance of staying up.
