MPH Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 http://www.foxcarolina.com/story/27716060/reports-contact-with-airasia-plane-lost Contact with an AirAsia plane en route from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore has been lost, according to AirAsia. The flight left the airport at 5:30 a.m. local time and was supposed to arrive in Singapore approximately three hours later. AirAsia confirmed that contact had been lost with the plane through its Twitter account. "AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact at 07:24hrs this morning," the tweet read. The company posted a note to their Facebook page confirming that the plane, an Airbus A320-200 with the registration number PK-AXC, had lost contact with air traffic control, and that search operations have started. Reports also indicate the plane had 155 passengers and 7 crew members aboard. "At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available," the company statement said. AirAsia is a low-cost airline headquarted near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It offers flights to 100 destinations in 22 countries. The AirAsia fleet consists of 169 planes. The AirBus A320-200, the model of flight QZ8501, was introduced in 1988. The passenger capacity of the A320-200 is approximately 180. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
MPH Posted 28 December 2014 Author Posted 28 December 2014 Reports are coming in saying that the plane asked for an unusual route just before going missing....
VLC86 Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Very sad news for all on board plus their friends and family. Way to early to suggest anything other than it has gone down accidentally and it requested another route due to weather.
separator Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Just seen a leaked radar image showing that as the aircraft was climbing it was going at a reduced speed, possibly could lead to it stalling. A bit similar to the Air France crash in the Atlantic which was caused by frozen pitot tubes causing incorrect air speed info to the pilots. All just rumours at the moment though.
foxoffderby Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Not again terrible news. Terry Fernandez is flying out there today

Would there not of been a mayday call or some sort of distress signal had it gone down through engine failure?
MooseBreath Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Monsoon season in that part of the world, more than likely weather related. Caps off what seems to have been a terrible year for air travel. RIP
MPH Posted 28 December 2014 Author Posted 28 December 2014 Before this year air travel was by far and away the safest form of travel with fewest numbers of injuries per capita than any other form of travel. That includes driving, walking and sailing ( boats). Even walking is considerably more lethal. Surely there's not been enough this year for that to change?

You have heard of 3 plane crashes because it is so rare. Do you think more people have been killed in accidents involving the above?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 You have heard of 3 plane crashes because it is so rare. Do you think more people have been killed in accidents involving the above? And one of those was shot down, so, as tragic as it is, it wasn't really the airlines fault, there was an external force at work bringing that one down.
lavrentis Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 And one of those was shot down, so, as tragic as it is, it wasn't really the airlines fault, there was an external force at work bringing that one down. Think it's called Gravity
Jon the Hat Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 And one of those was shot down, so, as tragic as it is, it wasn't really the airlines fault, there was an external force at work bringing that one down. And in all likelihood mh370 was the pilot.
SystonFox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 But where is mh370 and why isn't it spoke about any more? Illuminati
FoxesAreBlue Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Think it's called Gravity I call it a surface to air missile.
leicsmac Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Looks like they've found it - debris and bodies consistent with the aircraft according to reports. It was always going to end this way but still tragic. Given it has to be a pretty serious weather phenomenon to bring a modern airliner down, there might be more to it than that in the cause.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Makes you wonder how they can find this planes debris within 36/48 hours of it going down but not the Malaysian one. Very sad though

The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Much much smaller search area.... Granted but I'd have thought in 9 months they'd have covered all likely areas by now yet have found nothing?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 http://news.sky.com/story/1399784/airasia-plane-overshoots-runway-in-philippines I don't reckon I'll ever fly through Asia
separator Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 http://news.sky.com/story/1399784/airasia-plane-overshoots-runway-in-philippines I don't reckon I'll ever fly through Asia Whenever I've flown through Asia I've always used the asian airlines, brilliant service on the whole. Shouldn't let the odd crash here and there put you off. Lets hope Tony Fernandes' football club starts having as much bad luck as his airline, we need all the help we can get.
Itsthejoeker Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Bodies reportedly found holding hands, heartbreaking stuff.
Collymore Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Bodies reportedly found holding hands, heartbreaking stuff. I highly doubt this is accurate. I think if you hit the water at 700 mph you'd be lucky if your hand was still attached to your arm.
