I'm off to Durres, Albania on Saturday for a week.

It looks nice enough but I really don't know what to expect which I'm really excited about.

A week is a long time, Durres is v nice but it’s just a beach resort. You should defo go to Tirana, bus is less than a quid and even a taxi around £30/40 (in 2022). Lake orhid in Macedonia a decent day trip too

Looking to go to an all inclusive beach resort in Egypt next May/June. Any recommendations?

Only been to the resorts on the gulf of Aqaba, albeit about six times, mainly for the diving. Haven't been for about 25 years though and it's probably changed immensely.

What do you want from the holiday? Pool, beach, hotel or diving, excursions etc.

I found them all very similar in standard and quality, no bad stories to relay particularly.

Sharm, Hurghada and Taba were all popular holiday/diving resorts back then, my favorite being the Hilton in Taba. Was quite exclusive back in the day but was hit by a car bomber (drove into the lobby, if I recall correctly).

The reef was excellent and you can see Israel, Jordan and Saudi from the hotel. Yau can walk into Israel across the border and take a taxi to Eilat for a dive trip or visit the town/beach there.

A 2/3 hr bus ride away is Mount Sinai and St Catherines monastery. If you get a bus, try to arrive at around 10pm and if you are a decent hiker you'll reach the summit in time for watching an amazing sunrise.

Walk down and you should be in time for the Monastery opening and beat the crowds, have a couple of hours there (see the original burning bush!!) and get the bus back to Taba in time for the afternoon.

This is all from memory and may be quite different now :D.

Someone else will be able to help with more recent trips maybe...

Have a good time.

Take shitting tablets

Never had an issue in Egypt (maybe lucky!)

India though, I remember riding an Enfield Bullet at stupid speeds (then girlfriend, now wife on the back) on dirt roads to get to a toilet and dropping the bike on the floor to run for wherever I could go

Really enjoyed Mallorca, especially after I learned to stay away from the ridiculously foreign touristy places like S’Arenal. That was culture shock lol

Yeah rammed full of tourists these days. Very few fans actually from Islington.

What did you do while you were there? Any recommendations?

Thats a good question, I went during the euros so we didn’t really do anything specific other than just wandering round and bars.

Hofbrauhaus beer hall is a must, they have music playing there and the pork with dumplings was really nice.

Plenty of great buildings to look around, nice walk along the river etc.

I'm looking at going to either Krakow or Wroclaw in early December.

I've haven't done much analysis yet, but I'm already veering towards Wroclaw as I tend to prefer less touristy places (no idea if Krakow is over touristy, but I'm assuming it's more than Wroclaw). Guessing Wroclaw is slightly cheaper too?

I'm going with my partner who's really into the Christmas markets. I just like beer/pubs, good food, history/architecture (especially WW2 stuff which obv Krakow is suited for).

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Went to Wrocław for my stag do.  All the bars are in a central square,  it's really nice.

Warsaw is worth considering,  Went there last year and really enjoyed it.

Both fun, depends on how long you're away for. Would suggest Krakow. Not sure how long you can long out going to an xmas market for, half a day max? Krakow has the huge advantage of visiting Auschwitz on its door step which is an absolute must

Krakow was a fun stag location - not been with the mrs or at Christmas. One funny memory was a lad in our group had £1,200 taken out his JOINT account in some seedy brothel/strip place - theres loads of them there, literally dragging you in every 20 yards - plenty of good boozers, cheap and good street food.

Thanks all! I'm going for 3 days. Whilst Wroclaw looks nice, I might struggle to fill 3 days with stuff to do, whereas Krakow probably has a bit more going on.

Forgot to say, you can get Lime scooters everywhere these days but used them a lot in Krakow.

There's a fair few more off the central square. There's a long strip of bars underneath the railway arches.

Bars such as Pinta, Szynkarnia, Graciarnia, AleBrowar are away from the square and reading CoG's beer preferences would fit him well.

There is also HALA Świebodzki which is a huge railway arches food court/bar. Being the winter, Party Island/the pontoon bars won't be open.

Really depends how CoG spends his days. Personally think Warsaw is great but it's a beast of a city in size and overly modern. Found Wroclaw more youthful as well slightly than most Polish cities.

In terms of WW2, Wroclaw was Germany beforehand so its heavy Czech/German influence.

I go Poznań in four weeks and Poles rate Wroclaw & Poznan as the two under-rated gems. Interested to see what its like but its become apparent its already a bit on its limp as a large city.

Cheers mate, all that stuff would be right up my street but I think Krakow will probably work better with the Mrs. I think I'l probs do one day in Auschwitz and then one day Xmas markets/exploring the town.

Don’t disagree with that. I’d also say Wrocław is better as a summer city
