leicester_fox92 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Game after game I watch us chasing shadows. Teams like Sunderland, Stoke, West Brom, Spurs even Burnley have come to our place and they keep the ball so well. This is why our possession stats ALWAYS end up 30% - 70% in favour of the team we're playing. This is simply because our middle men and defence are not good enough to hold onto the ball. You watch them passing it around and after 3 completed passes they're stuck out wide with no options, or someone just hoofs it in panic mode. It pains me to say this but King, Drinkwater, James and Hammond are hard workers... but as footballers in the premier league they are awful. The people who are supposed to control the game for us do nothing of the sort. We need quality in the middle, we need a proper cam. Someone that's going to feed the strikers more than once in 90 mins. A Muzzy Izzzet type player that will pick the ball up and instead of going sideways or backwards will turn with the ball and instantly look to play it forward and start an attack. Also... I know Richie De Laet isn't everyone’s favourite player but this is getting silly now. Danny Simpson is a good lad, but he never overlaps, he doesn't give us anything going forward. Why are we setting up and waiting to get beat. We all know there’s a strong possibility of us losing every game this season, so why not go out with a bang. Yesterday’s game needed that pace injection, stoke wouldn't have been able to cope if we had played at a quicker pace. Same with Ulloa on the bench in favour of Nugent. Why are some of our best players sat on the bench in favour of people who "work hard" but have no ability. No time for loyalty Mr Pearson. We need quality in the middle.

Pearson got the team selection and crucial decisions WRONG yesterday.. Pulis and Pardew do the opposite!... Wba and Palace will survive.. We won't!!!
foxoffderby Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 For the first time this season I have to say we look we are going down. I've tried to be positive all season but yesterday was woeful. Our midfield didn't exist. Simpson was really bad he didn't attack and kept punting long balls bypassing the midfield. Our strikers lacked service. By the final whistle all their heads went down with Stoke chanting were going down. Was distribution was poor. Stoke controlled the game and fully deserved the 3 points. We've been unlucky on occasions this season with us hitting the wood work and bad refs but we deserved what we got yesterday nothing.
langtonfox Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 The players are not premiership quality.....the manager is not either
Callabinho Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 as I've previously said, there was nothing else we could have done with that midfield, and it was always going to get overrun, because 4-4-2 simply won't work against the formation Stoke played, and the personel they played in it. We didn't have the players available to combat Stoke's set up, as a result we had to work hard at trying to contain them as best as we could and take a chance when it fell. Unfortunately they took theirs, we didn't. Fine margins.

We were poor.Though we were lacking 4 or 5 players from the starting line up that would most likely play. No James, no cambiasso, no mahrez and strangely Ulloa didn't start. If you take nzonzi and bojan out of the stoke side yesterday despite us not playing well it would have been a point and stoke would have looked as average/poor as us. My point being without a full team we will struggle against decent teams.
MooseBreath Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Would support the return of de Laet, oh little girl, return of de Laet, once more girl, return of de Laet, up and down, you know that he'll be back, round and round.
m4DD0gg Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Until its mathematically impossible to stay up i wont give up hope but its not looking good. If we do go down i really hope some vital lessons have been learnt.
Monsell1976 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 We were not prepared for the premier league, and we are not good enough for the premier league. Unless we can recruit better players in the next two weeks, players that have a bit of composure on the ball, and don't panic when they have it, and a manager that can find a system that suits us, instead of ones that create very little, and we sit back when the opposition have the ball, inviting pressure, then we will remain in the position these tactic's have got us in until the end of the season.

As usual buddy, I agree. It's now looking like many of the excuses we've had are now looking like exactly that...excuses. Yesterday's was a poor poor result and could be a big loss come the end. I still have hope, but its starting to dwindle.
dayday Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Surprise Surprise a team comes to the KP to frustrate but we don't have the quality to do anything about it. It's an ongoing problem going back to the championship, that has never been resolved. We need an attacking midfielder with a bit of presence who can beat a man.

Yesterday's was a poor poor result and could be a big loss come the end. I still have hope, but its starting to dwindle. The question I will ask you col,Is it time to change? Clearly getting relegated and spending another season in the championship won't give NIGEL the premiership experience he needs to be able to keep us up next time round?? And should we be hanging on to a manager that takes 6 months to learn the basics? When managers like Sean dyche with a much worse squad on paper can learn in a matter of weeks? I know Nigel has proven he can get us playing some good football, but even when we play well we have always been a bit of a static team, and although we have a few "flair" players, the rest of the squad are so poor creatively it just drowns out any ability we have, our players go in and out of form week in and week out, and when they are out of form they don't even seem motivated to try and get back into form! I just can't help but get bored easily watching our style of play to be honest. Set pieces are a major part of premier league success, the amount of goals scored from set pieces or created from a set piece situation is huge, so why the hell after 5/6 seasons in charge, with probably upto 100 different players used has Nigel not bloody sorted this out yet??? The answer is he can't. We've been through this before with Nige unfortunately, and although we eventually got promoted, I can't see us going down and bouncing straight back up... My faith in the squad and nigel has almost gone, and it's a shame. I just don't think he has the current know how, or the ego to admit he was wrong on anything and change it, he won't change the way he operates and I think we missed the boat on pardew and pulis. Look at managers like koeman and how he's turned Southampton into a top 3 performing club (on merit might I add) We know that changing managers does not guarantee success, but I was thinking last night (and almost put a post) Would mourinho keep us up? I'd have to say I think he would without any signings. Obviously we won't get mourinho but if players are consistently bad they get replaced, Nigel has been consistently making stupid mistakes that seem glaringly obvious to everybody but him. I just don't think pearson is or will be for many years, a premiership manager. I'm honestly close to saying I've lost all faith and need to change now before we go down, which in my opinion is catastrophic. I really want to be proved wrong on this, cause I love Nigel, and whenever I hear his interviews some faith is restored, but how long can the talk go on for? We were fortunate at hull to hang on, villa are useless anyway and will be around the drop zone come the end, Newcastle have got a caretaker manager in charge who isn't good enough, And Liverpool have been a yoyo club all season! Take nothing away from the result but the teams we've beaten were either going through turbulence or on poor form anyway. So how can we go from the contrast of villa to yesterday in such a short period?
matty98 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 are you people actually serious? we've been playing brilliant recently but we've had one slip up so we're definitely going to get relegated? unbelievable, we have our 3 best cm's out so it's hardly surprising we struggled to keep the ball, not to mention drinkwater's just back from injury so can't have been fully fit.

I agree. We weren't very good yesterday, although we did have a couple of close chances in the first half. But Stoke weren't much better. Had first-half Nugent's volley gone in - and it wasn't far off - we would have got at least a point. Start talking about going down come Easter if you want. But we are three points off 15th place, and six off 12th.

So how can we go from the contrast of villa to yesterday in such a short period? To answer your question mate. I honestly don't have the faintest clue. Pearson is a stubborn sod. He likes his players who, perhaps not the most skilled, want to play for him in a pre-set way. They seem 'good lads' generally, and are clearly fighting for the cause. But will Nige's stubbornness be his saving grace or his undoing? I really don't know. What i DO think is if we were going to change we should have done it by now. And I think Nige is here until the end of the season. My biggest concern of Pearson is I sometimes just don't get his team selections. Albrighton was a first name on the team-sheet yesterday, for me.

You're asking the question as if survival is guaranteed? Are we not allowed to ask questions if it brings the clubs world class ability into disrepute? Let's not get around the fact that yes we have played reasonably well (compared to our run of form previous) but we aren't moving any trees yet, and don'took like doing so for a while based on yesterday, the fact is this.. to hit the Magic 40 points, we need atleast: 6 wins 5 draws 7 wins 2 draws 8 wins If you can point out easily where we will get these results and give reasoning why. I'll drop the debate. Until you can do that everyone is entitled to question our position and disgraceful performances for the last 4 months.

Agree, it just seems like when a game is there for the taking we fluff our lines, especially when results go our way elsewhere, stoke are solid but on our day we have the ability to beat them, we know that, we just never seem to have our day consistently! I'm really hoping for a Hustle and Bustle style box to box midfielder, and a centre back at the least, Corluka maybe. Atleast Ritchie de Laet could be given another chance to play left back if we didn't want to spend the money. But unless we shore up the defence our midfield will get sucked back everytime, which leaves little support going forward, I'd sell either king or james to bring someone in personally.
Dickov22 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Why on earth haven't we signed a new left back
Monsell1976 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Why on earth haven't we signed a new left backVery good question, are we even looking for one, or is Pearson happy with what we have, if so I am worried
Deucalion Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Only the last 20 minutes of the game was poor. We dominated the first half and we at least in contention for most of the second. Stoke's goal was against the run of play.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 3 points off survival in January = relegated

No i'm not at all saying survival is guarenteed, just don't really see any cause for all the negativity, we lost to a mid table Stoke side 1-0, it's not like we got thrashed at home by QPR is it? have some perspective.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 The next lot of premier league games when we play Man Utd will tell us more about our season. A few teams around might very well pick up a few points. That puts the pressure on at home to Palace the week after. I think if we lose the next 2 we are gone. Our run of games after that (Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and Man City) is a tall order too. If we are 5 or 6 points away from safety after that lot and with our run in, I'd say its do-able. But I fear the gap by then will be more, possibly 9 or 10 points which is just too much. From here, I'd guess we have maybe a 25% chance of staying up.

And I am not saying relegation is guaranteed, i'm simply questioning what the hell is going wrong, I've not stated that I know, I have actually asked other posters why they think we are where we are, when it seems obvious to most on here that we've made bloody awful decisions. And I think we may have missed the boat on changing the manager, not that I perticularly want too, but if pearson carries on with such odd decisions I can't see us staying up. which is why I questioned it.
les-tah Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Stoke could maintain possession and looked like the wanted do something as soon as they had the ball up top. We can't and don't do neither. We all new by Startin vardy and nugent who have scored 3 between them all season that was just not gonna be our day.
