shen Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 After news earlier today of a gunman attacking a free speech and blasphemy seminar, killing one civilian and injuring three police officers, live news are now reporting that another shooting has found place in the heart of the city near a synagogue. Early reports sifting through that another person has been shot in the head and two more police officers are injured. This is happening less than a mile away from where I am and it's terrifying!
Jon the Hat Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 This is slightly surreal as I have just started watching series 2 of the Killing in Danish, and this really could be a plot line. Rip the unfortunate victims, stay safe Shen!
BlueSi13 Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Sometimes I can't help wondering if this will ever end. What price is going to have to be paid?
Vossen Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 The Danish will shoot to kill...the British will spend 5 million on every court case like this...
MooseBreath Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Looks like they've shot him dead. Bit of a shame as it's always nice to see these people locked up forever. Media being very coy on the Muslim angle.

MooseBreath Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 As taxpayers expense? **** that, exterminate them like the vermin they are. Dying is part of the victory for them though. For these high profile cases in the West I'd rather see them live very long, very miserable lives in jail. That will serve more of a disincentive to others thinking of doing similar things.

If you think life in jail is 'very miserable' moose you must be reading the Guardian too much!
sphericalfox Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 If you think life in jail is 'very miserable' moose you must be reading the Guardian too much! Where's your knowledge of the prison system come from? Were you grounded one time?
Strokes Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Where's your knowledge of the prison system come from? Were you grounded one time? I have worked in prisons and seen the lifestyle relatively close up. It's not pleasant, similar to a council estate imho.
DennisNedry Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 I have worked in prisons and seen the lifestyle relatively close up. It's not pleasant, similar to a council estate imho. So similar to where they lived before anyway. Except you get everything free. 3 meals a day, Sky TV, games consoles, gym facilities, education opportunities. Sounds awful.

Do you know this for a fact, or is it just cheap strawman conjecture designed to help you make your pro death-penalty point?
Strokes Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Do you know this for a fact, or is it just cheap strawman conjecture designed to help you make your pro death-penalty point? You can have games consoles, I don't think you automatically get them because a lot don't have them.
DennisNedry Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Do you know this for a fact, or is it just cheap strawman conjecture designed to help you make your pro death-penalty point? Dependent on good behaviour of course, but it's based on fact. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9574892/3000-prisoners-allowed-to-watch-subscription-Sky-TV.html http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/509649/Prisoners-Xbox-360-Destiny-FIFA-14 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9994163/Taxpayers-pick-up-8m-bill-for-prison-gyms-while-inmate-sues-prison-for-lack-of-Kosher-meals.html Can't be arsed to google more stories because this kind of shit makes me too angry. It makes you realise how warped society is, where the elderly can't afford heating, where families have to visit food banks to feed their children etc etc, whilst meanwhile you've got murderers and rapists living in relative comfort at taxpayers expense.

DennisNedry Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Rapists have feelings too. Criminals should be given absolute lowest priority.
bovril Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Criminals should be given absolute lowest priority. Still above Danny Simpson imo.

Not to be too disparaging towards your sources, but isn't it possible that the Express and the Telegraph might have an agenda and thus may be overstating the truth somewhat here? That being said, I'm sure there's a grain of truth there and while good behaviour should be rewarded in jail (yes, we should attempt rehabilitation unless it's proven not to work on an individual, unless we really like the idea of multiple repeat offending and building lots more jails) there is such a thing as going too far. As to your later point, isn't it possible to help out those less fortunate in society without having to take money from the prison service, tempting target it may be given what many people think go on within them?
MPH Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 Honestly don't see why anyone can have any issue with Denmark. Fantastic country, great people who are so friendly and they get alot of things right. Always clean too. Just shows what a depraved mind the gunman must of had.

The country has always been looking over its shoulder since a cartoonist depicted Muhammed with a bomb back in 2005. I imagine (speculate) that the attack may have been encouraged as a result of the Paris shootings. Media are quite quiet. Imagine Denmark as a nation have been expecting this for some time. Pretty certain the cartoonist has lived under police protection ever since, as well as surviving several attempts on his life.

My mate is currently inside and despite being pissweak can't believe how easy it is, told me that himself. Not joking his biggest problem was how bad the wifi is when he's outside

Why someone rocking up to a talk over a coffee in a cafe becomes a target is beyond me...
shen Posted 16 February 2015 Author Posted 16 February 2015 What's kicked off in Copenhagen anyway? 22-year Danish-Arab bloke, known by the police for his activity in gangs and only just released from prison a few weeks ago for a violent knife assault he committed in 2013, went up to the café that hosted a seminar on free speech, blasphemy and censorship, and opened fire outside with a machine gun. Participants included controversial Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks (who had his own bodyguards in place) and artist Dan Park. Police and security personnel were able to stop him from going inside, but one civilian (a 55-year old film director) lost his life while another three policemen were injured. He then fled the scene and later returned to the city center to attack a synagogue where he fatally wounded a young man from the Jewish community with a shot to the head and injured another two policemen. He fled again, but police intercepted him early Sunday morning outside a building they had targeted. He opened fire and police shot him dead on the street.
