Everton Post Match

lol at people criticising Konch for being 'out of position'. It's a 5-4-1 FFS he has to go forward and hope that we don't lose it. The THREE centre backs give him the cover required to do that when they only have one main striker.

Besides, you'd all have slated him if he hadn't crossed the halfway line all game.

Well said, if three centre backs can only cover the centre of the park it's bad news.

We were very unlucky to lose.... especially when it was 2-2

And I thought we were on the wrong end of things last time we were in Liverpool! Aren't we allowed a point when we draw? expect we'll just get on with it and shrug our shoulders. It's the LCFC way.

The problem with 541, especially when ahead, is that it invites pressure. Add to the fact we are awful at defending and our defence contains some poor players at this level and it spells disaster. It was inevitable Everton would equalise and let's be honest, they should have beaten us comfortably with the amount of chances they created.

We are, however, not a bad team going forward. Why not play to our strengths? Errors will occur at the back and if we sit off the chances of those errors increase.

I miss the philosophy of last season. Attack-minded, positive and defending from the front.

Great post

Nige may have a master plan at right back when a fresh de laet comes back for the last 8 games when we have the supposed easy run in and need to play on the 'front foot'.

One of our biggest problems is our full backs losing possession through bad passing. The pass success rate of Simpson , De Laet and Konch is awful. So many times they give the ball away needlessly which breaks down our own attacks in poor positions that leave us exposed.

Because by opening up you will probably increase the chances of an error even more as there is less cover. As we saw yesterday, when Nuge and Vardy came on the chances flowed for Everton more than they had before.

It's trying to find a middle ground.

The problem is a manager expecting his defenders to suddenly be capable of adapting to a totally new system 3/4 of the way through a season. They're just not used to it.

No getting away from it though, Paul Konchesky should never ever be our first choice left back in the premier league. One of the most disappointing things from this season for me

Konchesky is more disappointing than the contribution of say Albrighton? Upson? Simpson?Moore? Drinkwater? Vardy? Powell? Lawrence? Pearsons antics?

Trust me, he hasn't been our biggest issue.

Disappointing and encouraging at the same time, I can only echo what's already been said, with no context this is a fine result on paper. Time is fast running out for this to be good enough though - a 2 point gap from safety would have meant a worst case scenario of being 5 points adrift next weekend but now it could be 7.

I found myself, like many others, wondering why we didn't go for it earlier on but all the changes did was basically make it a much more entertaining version of the first half. All considered it was a pretty even affair.

From where I was the support seemed pretty good if not spectacular, what was on that banner the guys at the back of the paddock held up?

Vardy did more in ten minutes than Mahrez did in an hour. Why does Nige persist in playing Mahrez on the right when all he does is cut in on his left? Play Albrighton on the right, Mahrez on the left and Ulloa and Kramaric up front. It's madness paying 9 million for a goalscorer the putting him up front on his own with little support. He has already shown what a good finisher he is, give him the support and he can score the goals to keep us up, but not playing up front on his own!!

Agreed Gloria

I see it as do many others. Clearly Nige rates him otherwise he would have (should have) bought in another LB or bitten the bullet and played Schlupp there which I think should happen. We have nothing to lose at this point of season. Nige should then use Mahrez on the left further up and try for a few games starting Albrighton on the right in front of RDL and rid ourselves of cringing every time Simpson goes near the ball. Simpson is even worse than Konchesky as defensive liability and offers little re a flanking attacking option. He looks lost past the half way line.

If Pearson sticks with 5-4-1 I think what you have suggested here is what should be done.

As I have said before, a couple of seasons ago Konch was our Mr Steady. Unfortunately, as many have said, he is our weakest player this season (yes there are a few others very close). A team is as strong as its weakest player. Enough said, Pearson, try something else.

A good performance. Encouraging.

However, Everton were there for the taking.

Playing five defenders really commits you to a defensive game regardless of how things pan out on the day. The advantage of playing five midfielders allows you to change the game-plan mid-game a lot more easily. I think with five midfielders we could have dominated that game from start to finish.

Also, why on Earth Pearson sub Cambiasso? With a few minutes left, surely the change to make was Kramaric off? 2-1 up with a few minutes left… keep the ball, kill the game, congest the midfield areas. So we take off our best ball-player off?

Despite all the good Pearson did yesterday, this was another clanger dropped.

He's 34 and had run his bollocks off, to be fair.

I think he still had half a bollock left in him. 34 isn't that old! All he needed to do was sit in front of the defence, and put the ball down the channels for Vardy to chase down into the corners.

I thought Kramaric looked shot though.

He'd been asking to come off for 5 minutes.

How do you know that?

Anyhoo I think Pearson should have told him to bloody get on with it and stop moaning.

Just cos Kramaric wasn’t moaning to come off doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right choice.

Like I said, sit deep, keep the ball.  That’s all he had to do. He didn’t even need to leave his own half. Pearson could put on Andy King to do his running for him.

The Manager needs to make these decisions based on what the team needs, not the players.

Pearson's antics and Paul Konchesky have been two of our biggest problems this season.

Cambiasso was absolutely cream crackered and had put in a serious shift.

There are many faults that lay at the feet of NFP, but substituting Cambiasso a man who could barely move any more as we tried to hold on, was not one of them.
