SamL Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 According to Mail online Nigel Pearson has got the city job. www.newsnow.co.uk Another new manager thread.
lavrentis Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I digged out this on that website. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...ampionship.html
Daggers Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Pearson asked by Mandaric to guide Leicester back into the ChampionshipNigel Pearson will be named as Leicester's manager today after chairman Milan Mandaric decided to go with his intial choice despite a late bid by former Aston Villa manager John Gregory. The former Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough skipper was considered unlucky to be sacked by Southampton despite stepping in late to rescue the Hampshire club from relegation to League One. Pearson, 44, will be handed one brief by demanding owner Mandaric - to restore Leicester to the Championship after the disastrous relegation that knocked the club out of the top two divisions for the first time in their 114 years. The former West Brom and Newcastle No2 plans to recruit two right-hand men in a departure from the football norm. He is expected to bring in Craig Shakespeare, briefly a team-mate at Sheffield Wednesday and now taking the reserves at West Brom, as Leicester's assistant manager with responsibility for coaching. Pearson will also appoint an assistant manager to oversee recruitment in Steve Walsh — not the former Leicester player, but his namesake who was Newcastle's chief scout under Sam Allardyce after quitting Chelsea.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 19 June 2008 Author Posted 19 June 2008 Is the Mail normally well informed about us? Dont know about that but i have a feeling there is some truth in this story.
SamL Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I've got to the stage now that I won't believe anything until it's confirmed. There's too much speculation about.
RowlattsFox Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I'm open-minded about Pearson to be honest. Will wait and see if its true. Pearson will also appoint an assistant manager to oversee recruitment in Steve Walsh — not the former Leicester player, but his namesake who was Newcastle's chief scout under Sam Allardyce after quitting Chelsea. This made me laugh, for some reason.
Milky Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 "Pearson will also appoint an assistant manager to oversee recruitment in Steve Walsh!! — not the former Leicester player, but his namesake who was Newcastle's chief scout under Sam Allardyce after quitting Chelsea" unlucky steve
Daggers Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 If this brings an end to one of the crappest manager rumours-fest we have ever had to undergo then halle****ingluya.
Jack Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Tbh, I don't care who gets the job, I'll support whoever and should hope that everyone else does as well. Let the new bloke bring his own players in and get a team built over the summer ready for next year in league one.
Ricey Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Hmm. Saving my judgement until it's certain. Would of liked to of seen the real Steve Walsh involved though.
DBEightyFive Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 If this brings an end to one of the crappest manager rumours-fest we have ever had to undergo then halle****ingluya. Agreed!!
Asha Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I'd be happy with Pearson tbh. His first job was at a Southampton team struggling, and after all he did keep them in the division. He's never been tried at this level, or with his own players at any level for that matter.
breadandcheese Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 He's an unknown quantity. Kept Southampton up, but I think that was down to us being poor than him really turning it around. I'm a bit concerned that Southampton saw fit to get rid of him, despite keeping them up.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Dont know what to think really. Prefer Gregory to this joker, we are talking are about experience. What experience does Pearson have going into possibly are biggest season ever?
DBEightyFive Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I'm more than happy to get behind Pearson...alot more than Gregory!
Zingari Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 great stuff lets have someone called steve walsh as no.2 but not the walshy we know and love yes that's much better
Asha Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 You can tell Walsh would of read that and was just about to pop open champagne and then read the smallprint.
dandannieldanok Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 He's an unknown quantity. Kept Southampton up, but I think that was down to us being poor than him really turning it around. I'm a bit concerned that Southampton saw fit to get rid of him, despite keeping them up. To be fair to Pearson, Southampton have been mismanaged nearly as poorly as Leicester at boardroom level and the Saints fans acknowledge that he was unfairly treated and very unlucky to lose his job. His appointment wouldn't enthrall me, but the relief that it's not Gregory and Walsh will be hard to mask.
SamL Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Dont know what to think really.Prefer Gregory to this joker, we are talking are about experience. What experience does Pearson have going into possibly are biggest season ever? Apart from working as assistant manager for a few clubs, not a lot really. He managed Southampton towards the end of last season, winning 3 out of 14 with a win ratio of 21%. He very nearly took them down but was helped out a little by us. Doesn't sound too promising.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 19 June 2008 Author Posted 19 June 2008 Dont know what to think really.Prefer Gregory to this joker, we are talking are about experience. What experience does Pearson have going into possibly are biggest season ever? Possibly on Par with Ince
