Big hint from the chairman about what they think of Kelly's abilities.

Kelly Thrilled With Manager-Of-The-Month Award

City boss Rob Kelly has expressed his delight after scooping the Coca-Cola Championship manager of the month award for March.

The Club received the good news from the Coca-Cola Awards Panel this lunchtime after Kelly was nominated along with Terry Westley of Derby County, Millwall's David Tuttle and Paul Sturrock of Sheffield Wednesday.

The team's unbeaten run this month, which has included three crucial victories over Hull, Luton and Millwall and an impressive draw with Premiership-bound Reading at the Walkers Stadium last Saturday, tipped the balance in his favour.

He said: "I am thrilled for everyone at the club because it has been a real team effort.

"It is recognition for the hard work the players, staff and supporters have put in to help us improve our situation."

The Foxes are now 11 points clear of the Championship relegation zone with six games remaining this term having collected an impressive 21 from 30 points since Kelly took over the reins at the end of January.

"When I was handed the job, my task together with Mike Stowell, the players and everyone at the club, was to preserve the club's Championship status.

"We have since gone a long way to achieving that goal but that job has not yet been completed and we must therefore continue to show the same levels of intensity and hunger between now and the end of the season."

The club's board of directors have been quick to offer their congratulations and delight to Kelly following this afternoon's announcement.

Chairman Jim McCahill added: "Rob and his team have gone a long way to easing our relegation concerns and we are now within touching distance of Championship survival.

"On behalf of the board, I'd like to congratulate him for that. We set him a challenge of 16 matches to keep us in this division.

"The club's impressive run has not only lifted spirits amongst everyone connected with Leicester City, but confirmed to the board Rob's genuine managerial qualities and desire to succeed."

The decision to present the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month awards was made by the Coca-Cola Awards panel headed by Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara, former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, and John Barnwell, Chief Executive, League Managers Association.

??

They're referring to the highlighted bit in Louise's post, namely the bit from Mr McCahill about Rob:

Chairman Jim McCahill added: "Rob and his team have gone a long way to easing our relegation concerns and we are now within touching distance of Championship survival.

"On behalf of the board, I'd like to congratulate him for that. We set him a challenge of 16 matches to keep us in this division.

OS

I was going to point it out myself, but that's one hell of a hint of the board's intentions.

It is 'when' rather than 'if' as regards Kelly getting the job. I imagine the board will wait until we're mathematically safe (to avoid the remote possibility of embarrassment) but after that they'll probably pick a time for announcement that maximises ST sales.

Twas either October or November 2003 when he won it.

I hope he gets this awarded to him at the Palace game in front of the cameras! :D

Congratulations to Rob but as he says the award recognises the efforts of everyone involved with the playing side of the club. That's what I think has made Rob's time in charge of the club so successful so far. Everyone feels like they've got a part to play now whether it be Matty Fryatt scoring goals to get us three points or Dave Rennie for making sure that Fryatt is fit enough to take part in the next match. However his future at our club pans out, these first few months in charge of us will be remembered for the right reasons.

has any other manager in LCFC history had a record like this after their 1st 10 league games? i can honestly see us not losing again this season and Rob winning next months award. there is no real reason why the curse will strike, we've had 2 fantastic months accumulating in 6 wins, 3 draws (against tough teams) and 1 loss against our bogey side of late.
