davieG Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 I'm not sure what it is they planned for, being 9 points behind having played a game more MacAnthony Still Believes Posh Can Catch Leicester Posted on: Wed 11 Mar 2009 Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has not ruled out catching Leicester City at the top of Coca-Cola League One after witnessing a 2-1 victory over S****horpe United at London Road on Tuesday evening. The win, the third in a row, extended the advantage over Milton Keynes Dons to five points and MacAnthony still believes that runaway leaders Leicester can be caught as the season enters the final stretch. 'I still believe we are in with a great chance of winning this league. The plan is coming together, we planned for this and it is testament to the management and the players that we have put ourselves in with a chance. You have to have bottle at this stage of the season and I believe Peterborough United are showing plenty of bottle. 'The nerves are a bit frayed after watching the win over S****horpe. I was here for the Carlisle game so I have now seen two good home victories. It has been very frustrating for me to not see as many games as I would have liked. When I retire, I will make sure I am at every game! 'We are looking forward to the big games coming up. Trust me, we are a difficult side to live with, whether it be Leicester City or Milton Keynes Dons, no team will be looking forward to playing Peterborough United at the minute. I believe this team would give a number of sides in the Championship a run for their money,' MacAnthony told the Posh World. When asked where he believes Posh can finish in the Championship, MacAnthony replied: 'Realistically, in our first season at that level, I would expect us to finish in the top 10 without a doubt.'

I think the later!!
Guest Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 As has been the case for a while, it's in our hands and would take a monumental fook up on our part to ruin the lead we have
Corky Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Peterborough still have to win three more games than we do to catch us up. I can't see us losing three matches. If we avoid defeat at their place it will be even harder for them.
Ultra Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Like Franchise, Posh have punched above their weight this season as a newly-promoted club. But even if they beat us (and they'd have to step up massively from the previous clash to do that), we'd still have to lose another three games for them to catch us. Their chairman is just whistling in the wind.
leftsideoverhere Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Maybe he should wait until he's watched more than "two home victories" before making such a prediction. I think he makes himself sound like an idiot: expecting a top ten championship finish next season when his team aren't even sure of promotion yet.
sbfox Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Their fans are equally deluded.... http://www.theposhforum.co.uk/forum/viewto...1a275eac5b1b3ee
Bedford Fox Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 We have not got to lose 3 games but just drop the points and we have been drawing alot of games. But having said that i don't think we will throw this lead away. c'mon Leicester
StanSP Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 The guy who originally posted, Kerplunk, is the only guy who has sense! He gets criticised for being realistic!

And in their last 10 fictures, they have to go to Oldham, Millwall, and Bristol Rovers. They could be their three draws (but unlikely) They host us, Northampton, Cheltenham, Stockport Swindon, of which I think they will only beat Northmapton, Cheltenham and Swindon. So doesn't look like they'll catch us if we drew every game!
Lillehamring Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 well, it's not like he's gonna post an admission of defeat when they could still manage it.... but, the championship finish thing was going a bit too far...
Munzie Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 Sounds like Darragh MacAnthony is a stayaway Chairman that has had a little too much sherry with his prawn sandwiches last night. By his own admissions he hasn't been to many games this season and has just witnessed a couple of recent wins. Easy to get caught up in the moment. McDons, although stuttering recently, still have the upper hand on Posh with their games still to play. I can see Mr MacAnthony's statement coming back to haunt him. His last comment was more realistic. I take it he was starting to sober up at this stage!

With their games in hand they are likely to rise against Posh, so Darragh's claims could be naive and he could come back to regret them once he loses the playoffs!
jmono84 Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 I've just been onto the Posh's website and read an interview with the chairman... http://www.theposh.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,...1586385,00.html The mans an idiot.... Not only have we already battered them at home by a marginal 4 goals to their nil but we have conceded all season what they have in just their away games... He goes on to state that no team would like to play them but I'm certainly looking forward to the clash at the end of the month. He also says if his current team was in the championship then he would realistically be targeting a top 10 postition... Sorry mate but be realistic!!! Sorry but reading this stupid derranged chairman interview just pissed me off.
BoneDog Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 HA. I couldn't wait to go to that game soon, but now I'm rarin to go. He says "no team will be looking forward to playing Peterborough", but I'm sure our lads are ucking lookin forward to it. We will end there chance of top spot
leicesterseddon Posted 11 March 2009 Posted 11 March 2009 i can't decide whether this is fighting talk or just spin. either way it's not going to happen i'm normally very cautious about these things but i thought about this today and i'm now certain we can't be caught. the other clubs below us all need to play each other, and with our lead only terrible relegation form will see us not go up as champions. in fact i think peterborough will finsh 3rd or 4th and (based on how they played agianst us) mk dons could will nick 2nd, although they have a fair few games to play this month.
